Poor start to the game

lacked any drive or desire and were outplayed initially

grew into the game

pressed more and then the changes all started to click

was an excellent 3 points

but we need to improve

The stadium was very quiet in home end and the Wednesday fans were an absolute credit to that club

good start

I didn’t think Daka did much to be honest.

I think it was less about anything particularly special that he did and more that as a team, we looked better for having an actual striker up front with some legs and energy who might make a run in behind or into the box.

I think maybe we all massively underestimated how difficult a fixture this would be. We all just assumed they’d be knackered and have no bench etc which proved to be true. But we didn’t give them the credit they deserved for the spirit they showed. I imagine they’ll have that again next week when they’re back at home but over the next few months, that will drain out of them and they will become the easy 3 points we expected.

Fair play to them. They exceeded any expectations I had and we underperformed for large parts. But I’m not too down on us. I’m convinced we’ll be just fine but Marti needs time.

Was never gonna be easy. I was amazed that people on here were saying 5-0, 7-0, 9-0 etc. Some might have been joking but most were predicting a 4+ goal win.

We'll still have the hangover from being relegated, some of these have been relegated twice now.

Add to that the fact that Marti has only been in charge for 3/4 weeks. We do need to be patient - not our strongest attribute as a fan base!

If only Daka's header had gone in (and I don't blame Daka, it was a good save) Jordan Ayew's run to set it up would have become the stuff of legend.

Would have done is confidence a real boost. Great save.

Not our finest hour but 3 points in the bag.

Standout observation for me is that play grinds to a halt as soon as Okoli, Skipp, Soumare or to a lesser extent JJ get involved.  Vesty and Faes at least both look to get the ball forward.

Bringing on Winks allowed Marti to keep the shape and plan the same but with a bit of extra snap.  Skipp is meant to provide that but I have never seen it.

Flashes of quality from Abdul and BEK but their fullback had the measure of Mavadidi today.  Monga showed that he has the ability and confidence to humiliate defenders at this level.  Once he gets his first goal and assist I predict the floodgates will open.

Ayew was MOTM for me, especially in the second half when everything was going through him and it was great to see him really fighting for the ball.

Big shoutout to the Wednesday fans.  They turned out in numbers even with the shítshow that is going on there and executed the fan protest almost perfectly.  I hope they could hear the support they were getting from our supporters.

It’s not booing Faes, the brain dead fans thing he’s called “Woo”. They’ve done it since he signed. Pisses me right off

He was brought in to replace Forfana yet I hear the same people slagging off Faes talking about Forfana like he was some sort of hero. The brat dropped us like a stone but that counted for nothing. Whatever people say Faes has earned his money here.

Think the manager had a blinder today. First half Wednesday had a back five and doubled up on our wingers and completely nullified their threat. The team then seemed to play through the middle where the space was and created a bit more. Second half, once he'd had time to tinker, it was one way traffic. Was hard work winning that but the Manager's input to that win should not be underestimated.

Well done the Wednesday fans who were loud and proud and good on the City fans who clapped them in. :appl:

Ayew, BEK and Vesty grew into it. Good.

Fatawu really good again.

Don't like to see a City player get booed ONTO the pitch, but he gave it back  lol

Just got home. Did they show us on Sky clapping the Wednesday fans in? Announcements outside asking Wednesday fans to move away from the turnstiles as some at the front were getting distressed.

Wednesday were absolutely out on their feet and down to ten men at that point, I think you're reading way too much into Daka's impact

First half was a tough watch, bit of a hangover from last season. Wednesday took their opportunity first half. I thought they would tire as the game wore on and so it proved. Credit to Marti for being proactive and changing it at half time. Second half was an improvement. As the game progressed, we looked more dangerous (granted mainly after Bannan was sent off).

We looked short creativity wise first half. Winks made a huge difference, whether he’ll be here come September is another matter. We need a new striker, but I thought Ayew had an excellent afternoon overall, and Daka had an impact off the bench.

Pleased for Cifuentes to get off to a winning start. Making an effort with the fans is a smart move, more than Ruud did in his whole tenure! Plenty of work to do, but very much like Coventry a couple of years ago, three points the most important on day one!

Got there in the end. First half was all over the place, thankfully Winks came on and settled it all down. Much better second half and nice to see plenty of attacking football after all the dross of last season.

Winks changed it for us today. Sets the tempo just as he did last time he played at this level. Just wants to get on the ball (& his teammates are happy to give it to him) unlike Soumare who hides behind players rather than offer. Poor old Skipp will never be able to play the more advanced role that he had today but I think he would be better alongside Winks than Soumare will be.

Monga made a great cameo performance - a mature showing for such a young prospect.
