We got the win, but the game highlighted our midfield is very weak. Soumare and Skipp are shit. Winks is better but will probably leave, considering he had a face like a slapped arse after we won. I think we'll need one of our youngsters, possibly Page, to step up and use Ricky more as a CM.

Faes came on as a sub.

I called it in the match thread as he waited on the sidelines and loads of comments were posted in here "Faes, FFS" etc,  that he would probs get booed as he came on and so it came to occur.  Quite audibly on the TV.

Whilst some are suggesting maybe it was fans saying "Wooot", no it wasn't, it was deffo booing him.

You could see on the TV Faes heard it and grinned, shaking his head, so when he scored, that's why he cupped his ears at the fans.

Fair play to him.

He hasn’t stood up enough since he got here though so quite frankly he can go elsewhere with best wishes.

Agreed and this is where I have some sympathy with Marti, he needs to pick a team to go out and win a game from a group that contains a number of high earners all casting an eye at the exit door, with a little over  2 weeks of the transfer window left. Rudkin needs to get busy even if that means a high turnover of players by the time we get to the end of the window.

I could think of a handful of the top of my head that would happily go at the first opportunity … it’s a tough job for Marti especially with an incompetent DOF

It's a win, that's all that matters at this stage. Fair play to Wednesday, they were bang up for it- I said before that it might be a bad time to play them.

Really positive sign that Marti can turn things around after what was, let's face it, an absolutely horrific first half.

If he's got the options to release it, yes. But hes clearly been told to get hold of it more and get Bilal and the wingers involved more. Skipp coming off and Winks getting forward more made it a lot more successful. I think you're reaching a bit

I agree with Winks. He changed the game when he came on. I thought Ayew looked good, but I’d rather he work on getting the ball out of his feet quicker and get into the box is all, I think he’s actually a decent finisher.

Certainly where I was in the East stand it was "Wooot" when he came on.

It was the same after he scored too. Even our fans don't boo our goalscorers!

Easy to just remember that we won the first 13 out of 14 with Enzo and forget the actual games themselves.

We had plenty of matches like today in the first few games, the Cov game at home was almost a mirror of this.

Definitely think Cifuentes made mistakes that he needs to learn from, Skipp and Soumare need to be done together and Winks needs to start, or else we need to buy someone who can do the same job. We have to actually be able to build up the pitch with some urgency and Winks is pretty much the only player on our books that can do that.

Jordan Ayew is definitely no Vardy, either. Thought he was mostly ****ing awful until Daka came on and he got a somewhat more free role against 10 exhausted Wednesday players. Christ we need a striker.

It'll improve for sure but we lack quality in a lot of areas.

Need an attacking 8 and striker.

Jesus Christ, I cannot believe simply how

miserable people are. Just enjoy the fact we’ve made a winning start to the season. Plenty of improvement needed of course. Dread to think what this place would be like had we not won.

Painful.

Foxestalk will find a negative in anything.

Just got back from the game, im very worried if Bilal leaves, I cant understand what Soumare brought to the team today, very surprised he wasnt dragged, Winks deffo improved things. I hope the club have a Bilal replacement should the worst happen

Made hard work of it against a very poor side.

The squad still needs freshening up. Still far too many players that shouldn't be near the squad. Sick of watching Soumare, The bloke is a piss take and completely half arsed. Faes and Vestergaard meed moving on/left on the golf course at Seagrave also.(Yes I no they scored) .

Thought Ayew struggled until the last 20 minutes then he looked very good.

We need a striker desperately

Wow that is crazy, is he the new scapegoat this season even when he doesnt do anything wrong?

I did wonder how people would react when consider Ayew and Faes had a reasonable game.  Two not fancied players.  I think I heard boos when Faes came on.

Yeah they were really loud and he was shaking his head in disbelief and laughing about it.

I dont think I’ve ever heard someone boo’d after a goal though lol

Just got back from the game.

A few negatives for me wer

Way too slow moving the ball, more so first half .. lacking movement and ideas.

Luke Thomas and Soumare i felt were poor, as was Skipp.

But more positives.

El Khannous and Fatawu were simply fantastic (shame they'll both be off).

3 points to start the season off with.

Minutes for Monga and looked decent.

Manager made changes at the right times and they worked.

Ayews work rate is brilliant, just needs to find the net

Keep scraping wins until the window shuts and see what we have then, but a decent start and I do like this manager.

What became clear to me today is that Cifuentes likes to play a CM that we aren't equipped to play. He likes a ball winning DM, a box to box and almost an 8/10 hybrid.

We have the latter covered with Bilal but no one else that we have fits those other two positions so he either needs to rethink this or we try move on anyone we can at CM and replace them with players that suit the system.

Agree, Cifuentes was proactive which was good to see.  Made changes that impacted the game.

First half thought we were far too passive.

LB is a concern for me, I don't really like VK or Thomas for the roving role. But we've so many full backs can't see us doing much in that area.

Definitely need a striker and CM.

So what did we learn today we didn’t already know …

soumare , skipp and thomas are garbage - yep already knew that

Ayew works hard and is half decent at holding the ball up but will never score 20 goals - yep we knew that

vesty is a poo defender but decent with his feet and infinitely better when he has winks to pass it to - yep knew that

winks is very good at this level and should be one of first names on team sheet - must look at the other 2 and cry his eyes out - pretty much new that didn’t we

faes is probably our best centre half at this level - Okoli far to slow to progress play and him and vesty as a pairing look like a pair of big donkeys - yep again

get soumare out of our club - knew that

the wingers will make or break our season - poor first half’s but where coming into great games - knew that

monga is going to be very special- we knew that

Bek needs to do more with his ability - ditto

we desperately need a centre forward and a centre mid if we stand any chance this year - yep we knew that already

what will the new gaffer do differently to the previous 2 - well that’s the one we don’t really know yet but I’m taking today as another learning exercise for him - will have quickly realise all the things above that we already know and do something about them - thought his subs were great and shape change apart from the Fatawu for mcateer one - but I’ll give him a pass on that - tried to win the game and ended up winning it - needs to quickly get his head round that first half was simply shambolic because of most of the reasons above - I’m backing him to work it all out quickly

Ayew looked better when Daka came on as he had more space - still shoots far too much when better options on but when you have him, Daka stretching the defence and Bilal plus the wide boys we have some attacking threat - games at home will be difficult because everyone will come and sit in so we will have lots of possession. Width from full back over lapping and finding space will be a premium - unfortunately Thomas and Justin added little.

I was hoping to see hamza on for luke and JJ move to the left and Hamza the right myself.. however Marti made his subs and turned it around.so I ain't complaining.

I liked how he did a lap of the pitch before the game rather than the usual walk to the centre circle too.

It's a big if with Top and Rudkin.. but if they back him with a striker and a box to box, alongside replacements for Bilal and Abdul when they vacate, this could be a good fit with him here
