And let’s be honest we will not get an easier fixture this season, the Sheff Wednesday players were training on a local college’s astroturf pitch as the training ground wasn’t useable, they hadn’t played a game for several weeks before us and was down to 10 players for a 1/3 of the game

The Wednesday game says it all for me. Probably the weakest team ever in the championship with total disarray in the club. We go behind then scrabble a win against 10 men.

We still face a pts deduction  that could be anything from 4pts to double figures. We get a draw with a div1 club (not counting the pens)

This club is probably going to end up in the lowest state/position it's ever been in. I have little faith in anyone at the club over 21yrs old and possibly the manager that could of only gone to Wednesday to be in a bigger shit show than us ATM.

Things will level out, we won’t finish below mid table, Mavididi/Fatawu/Monga should be enough in attack with practically the same defense as our promotion year to guarantee that. Worries me more that we do not look good enough from the past three to win enough to be anywhere close to 100/90 points which will be needed with our deduction to be near the big players of the league, reckon as things stand we finish in the 4th-8th range

Yes… there is a league table with 24 teams in it 3 of which will be relegated … we could also get promoted we could also do neither of those things

I’ve flitted between ‘yes’ at the end of last season, to ‘got a chance of bouncing back up’ on the assumption of the new manager playing the youth

Now?

Could easily happen I think. The deadwood in the squad could sink us.

Quite happy with this comment

With a 50 point deduction we might, but not for on the pitch performances.

New manager, new tactics - takes a bit of time.  Depending on who leaves between now and the end of the window might be the difference between play offs and mid table, but not relegation.

If there was a prize for who might get it the most wrong, surely I must be in with a chance? lol

I still think we’ll win the league, so no.

Whilst we haven’t looked great, neither has most of the division.

Marti needs time to implement his style.

We still have the best squad in the division in my opinion, however that could change  y the end of the window.

My opinion aged really, really well lol

I have acknowledged and accepted this on more than one occasion.

I still think with the playing ability we have though, we should be mid table.

This lot get worse each week in terms of actually caring though. I think that is now flowing through to the fan base.

We are slowly dying as a club.

The only thing I'd correct you on is the term deadwood. It's not just dead, it's completely rotten

I don’t think we will go down but have also seen enough to not expect us to be in the promotion picture.

It feels eerily like 20 years ago. Relegated after a period settled in the Premiership, won a couple of trophies followed by fast decline due to mismanagement. Got back up at the first attempt but straight back down again. Different financial issues in that it was administration rather than artificial PSR but still causing lack of investment in the playing squad.

We’re now at the equivalent point on the curve as the start of the 04/05 season. We were expected to be up the top again and ended up finishing 15th, then 16th, 19th before being relegated.

This is where it’s going for me. We might not get relegated this season but we are in that 04-08 period again and I fully expect a relegation to League 1 within the next 5 years, and certainly before a promotion back to the Premier League.

I did think it might take longer than this season. Possibly also, at that point, I held back a bit. I never thought we’d be in the promotion/play off picture but thought we’d just above stay up. I was more concerned about next season.

And if somehow we do manage to stay up from here, that will still be the case. We will go down next season regardless.

Too many to dig anyone out but page 1 of this thread hasn’t aged well for a lot of us.

I did say, on the 14th August, "Division 1 here we come" !!! Can't believe we're still hanging on (sort of)!

Except there's no 15th ,16th,19th before  relegation these tossers have even managed  to bypass  that ,so now we're  ahead, dont expect a quick promotion  though this time.

I think it's easy to forget how big the drop off is to the bottom end of the championship.

We have some shite but it would have to be bad beyond belief to get relegated from this division over a 46 game season.

turns out we are bad beyond belief.

Some of you prostrating yourselves in prayer to Aiyawatt and his bodyguards as if he was a God, if I recall.

It certainly looks possible at the moment, desperately need new blood. Midfielders with a bit of energy. A striker. Full backs.

Aged surprisingly well

Before a ball was kicked I had us down in automatics, the display at the weekend and y’day and the attitude of some of the players (Faes/winks) and starting soumare and skipp and having essentially a non existent midfield I think 8-10th with points deduction

the first bit was right at least...

It's been on the cards for awhile.  I had some money on us for the double drop in Feb 2025 and it's looking a safe bet.

I'm actually concerned we might end up with a triple drop though, literally no one in the squad or backroom staff looks capable of turning this around and PSR gonna completely **** us.

I can see us basically playing a youth team next season

I don't think it's impossible but it's very unlikely.

What is quite clear though is we will always play about 15% below our actual ability because the players don't care and have no incentive to. They have it very easy, fanbase mostly let them off the hook, the owner is their mate, the DoF puts them on contracts even some Saudi clubs would baulk at.

Add in the total lack of movement in or out. It's a losing team with a losing culture. I think it's this year where people, myself included, will probably appreciate more what Maresca did. He pushed for change - didn't I read somewhere he wanted something like 16 signings? Obviously wasn't going to happen but I like that attitude personally.

We've been underachieving for years and I see no reason it won't be any different. This season has been a shocking start - scraped past the worst opposition you could possibly face at this level and lost in the cup to a team in the league below, all with the same dreadful players being tolerated. I'm pretty confident already we won't be going back up.

I've no doubt there'll be people who ridicule this suggestion though. Well I think virtually anybody would've ridiculed what happened here in the last three years if you had suggested it, so I'd not really pay them too much attention. Aiyawatt & Rudkin's tenure can only lead to underachievement.

Yeah this didn't age terribly. It was very unlikely, but under the 'leadership' we have, our floor is always quite a bit lower than you believe it could be.

Specialists in failure. Specialists in underachievement. Losers.

Not sure if I ever voiced it on here, but I live on Derbyshire/staffs border and have Derby and stoke fans as friends and said early we could go down, they thought I was mad.
