Is this guy actually any good? How has he done at Rennes?

Soumare pissed the French league, so.... Does he actually get in ober Skipp/Soumare.

AI trigger warning.  I asked it in what circumstances James might operate effectively as a 10, given he's probably more naturally a 6 or 8.  It said:

Best Uses as a Ten

  • In systems where the No. 10 drops deep to connect play, like a link-man rather than a pure playmaker.

  • In pressing-oriented teams where the attacking midfielder needs to harass opposition pivots and quickly recycle possession.

  • When paired with more dynamic wide players or a striker who can drop to link play, allowing James to exploit space late in the attack.

That broadly fits with Cifuentes playing style doesn't it? If so presumably he could be our 10, albeit not a like for like with bilal? Does feel like we'd be a bit short of creativity in central areas though.

If (when) we sell Bilal we’ll need another 10 through the door…. As it stands a 6/8 has to be more of a priority anyway…

either way I wanted us to make a move for him when we went up so now we’re back in the champ if he’s available it’s a no brainer for me… Gerrrrrimin

Him, Joao Rego, Rak-Sakyi and pull a decent goal scorer from nowhere and suddenly weve had a decent window.

And considering we’ve blagged our way to 3 wins, hard not to be a little positive

Massive yes from me. I think he will improve back in the midlands, won’t happen though for me, too obvious.

yes and no, the club has been tracking him for a number of years

and hes honestly an upgrade imo

but as you said its too obvious for us

Provides drive and a regular goal threat from midfield

9 goals in 118 matches with Brum and Rennes suggest otherwise.

I’d kill for those type of stats from Winks, Skipp and Soumare lol!

Yeah I wouldn't describe him as a regular goal threat.

I like him and I've seen a fair bit of him but it's energy and work rate I like the most. It's what we really lack in our midfield.

It's like if you actually put a competent football brain in Hamza.

I think the KDH comparisons are probably quite apt, sans creativity and goal threat. He's not there to provide goals or assists, but drive the ball forward and "make stuff happen" that leads to assists/pre-assists. Our midfield is way too static and lacks dynamism. Jordan James would add that.

But KDH does provide goals and assists!

Sounds like he would great as one of our two deep-lying midfielders. That would still leave us short of a number 10,, though.

As long as he manages to create opportunities up front, I'm in.

Skipp and WInks aren't attacking-oriented midfielders, they hover around in the middle or behind the strikers too often.

I'd confidently say, 99 percent of our goal contributions have come from either flank.

If we can add a bit more oomph up front, the better.

At 21, Jordan has lots of potential.

I fear our new number 10 is probably Ayew if we bring a striker in. Could be worse but over the season I imagine he’d notch up a decent G+A.

I'm sorry but as much as I like JJ, he isn't KDH.

I think there's things he does better, think he's stronger and probably more hard working. Probably a bit more reliable passing the ball.

But he's absolutely not going to suddenly provide 20 goal contributions in a season for the first time ever because we will it.

They're white boys with a bit of hussle and they play in midfield but that's pretty much the beginning and end of the comparison.
