Oh give over. He was excellent. He was winning the ball back, showing for it constantly, driving forward and moving the ball into the channels well and winning free kicks.

It fell down today because of Ayew and his lack of ability to be a proper number 9.

Yes, but was he prime yaya toure or Steven Gerrard? No!

I think you need to understand where we are as a club. He isn't world class or comparative to our side 5 years or so ago, but for where we are he is exactly what we need and certainly above average.

Why was he average in your opinion then? @Pliskinhas explained why he thinks he played well, and yours is just nah he was average

given the small fee agreed in this deal it must be nailed on to make it permanent, when we get Page or Ramsey in the 10 and James deeper with Winks we'll be better in midfield

But to be fair to Ayew, that's not his strength. The guy works bloody hard, perhaps overly trying too hard or selfishly, but he'd be better in a support position.  Your comments on James are spot on. Other than a scuffed shot, he was excellent and worked hard for the team and showed up well.

I mean he we was good. But tbh I’m still reeling that a relegated club in financial turmoil has been able to sign a player akin to prime Gerrard, a generational midfield talent, on loan. Err Top, or Glover or Marti or even James OUT.

Notice they have gone missing

Fair play for challenging that. It’s like people who just claim players are ‘league 1/2 quality mate’ without any justification, when the players in question have proven themselves at this level and are clearly out of form/confidence.

People will have views but it’s a forum, discussion board, so back it up.

Well if being one of the best players on the pitch to you is average, then I’d hate to see what you consider good…… he wasn’t average….. what exactly about his performance did you think was average? The numerous ball recoveries? The consistent desire to show for the ball? The consistent desire to receive the ball in tight areas, the multiple times he managed to abase his marker and progress the ball upfield? The numerous passes into the channels, and quick passes into the channels? The multiple free kicks he won, and the only player two have a couple of decent shots, one forcing an excellent save?

and I’d suggest you pop to specsavers. They’ve got a deal on at the moment.

Great in the first half but seemed to drop deeper (to cover for the woeful Soumare) in the 2nd half, him & Winks in the middle with Ayew in the 9/10 role ( has to release the ball quicker) and Monga on the left wing and we are sorted…

So much negativity around the smallest things.

He did well in his 1st start, we lost control when he and Ricky went off.

I know. Don't know what people expect, it's like they have no grasp on reality. I can only assume that these people go to work each day and never make one little mistake.

I'll also get they'll go home and watch a movie with some real bad acting in it and love it

Am I missing something? Thought he was bang average if that!

Even I, the most miserable and reactionary poster on this forum thought he was good! Our midfield looked way better with him and winks in there

Decent debut. As echoed elswhere, him and Winks deeper, with Ayew behind Carranza and Monga for Mavs next game - and it's progress...

his reverse through ball second half to Ayew was outrageous, striker who can move quicker than Captain Tom Moore and that would have been a stunning assist.

We do lack for pace :(

Across the whole team, it's our biggest weakness.
