Clearly a good keeper with high level experience, but Jakub hasn't done anything worth being dropped and is very good himself.

 

Would be harsh to drop Jakub, but can't see why a keeper with his pedigree would sit on the bench at this level.

He’s played 8 games in la Liga his career, 4 in 23/24 and 4 in 24/25. He made 12 apps for betis in cup competitions other than that.

This guy played every game up to the Final in the Conference League last year, with strong performances against Genk, Fiorentina etc in the knockout stages when Betis were under the cosh. It doesn't seem like he'd be the sort of signing who was keen to come in as a number 2 in the championship (although the money is probably better). It feels like this might be a real competition for Number 1 signing, which i didn't think when i originally saw it. 

Not sure if he ran his contract down as he wanted to be first choice somewhere or if he was just let go not of his own volition. But either way he looked pretty handy in some of his videos and so hopefully he breaks our run of iffy Portuguese/Spanish recruits who don't quite cut it...

The more I think about it the weirder this one is. Seems a bit too good to be sat on the bench as a 26 year old in the Championship. I've seen a lot of Betis fans think that Vietes is/was better than Adrian and should have been kept.

 

I think Stolarczyk has done absolutely fine so far and doesn't warrant replacing but I do wonder if Marti just wants someone better with the ball at his feet? 

 

It all gives me bad vibes. IMO we should be backing Stolarczyk as the undisputed number 1.

I agree, his joining interview talked about showing what he can do and getting 3 points which was a bit weird if he was coming in as number 2. Hope he doesn't cause an issue in the dressing room if he's unhappy with not playing.

I'd worry if a player came into the club openly aspiring to be the next Conrad Logan.

Two number 1s almost never works. IMO there needs to be a clear hierarchy with goalkeepers. Obviously we needed a keeper because Bausor needs to play every week.

Sensible, good backup or rotation. Nobody leaves one keeper as the only option, and assume Asmir is here for  emergency and too help the other keepers.

Vietes is a professional number two. He's 26 years old and the most league games he's played for the first team of any club is 12 over a two year period at Lugo in the Spanish second tier. 

 

He's not coming in to replace Stolarczyk, he's free cover. 

 

If you dig back through Foxestalk, you'll find plenty of comments from people calling Danny Ward better than Kasper Schmeichel and calling for him to start because he'd made a couple of saves against like, Accrington Stanley or something in a cup game and Kasper had had a bad game in the Prem. 

 

Number two goalkeepers getting over rated by fans who barely ever see them play has got to be a staple of the Internet surely.

True but think personally I would just give one of the youngsters ago in goal if that happened.

Yeah my comment wasn't actually made with any disrespect in mind.

 

I just think any professional footballer should want to impress enough to be a starter, and Logan certainly tried that when he got the nod ahead of Paul Henderson before settling into his role as backup. 

 

In not so many words you should aim to be a starter without grumbling if you're not, just take your chance if you're given it.

im inclined to think we put in an offer for him several weeks ago but he was holding out for a better offer..

Yeah I suspect we entered negotiations but he held on to see if a starting offer would materialise before joining as our back up.
