Yeah I suspect we entered negotiations but he held on to see if a starting offer would materialise before joining as our back up.

and you can’t blame him. We all want the best job we can get.

The more I think about it the weirder this one is. Seems a bit too good to be sat on the bench as a 26 year old in the Championship. I've seen a lot of Betis fans think that Vietes is/was better than Adrian and should have been kept.

I think Stolarczyk has done absolutely fine so far and doesn't warrant replacing but I do wonder if Marti just wants someone better with the ball at his feet?

It all gives me bad vibes. IMO we should be backing Stolarczyk as the undisputed number 1.

This is kind of the attitude Rodgers had with Ward though, Iversen stopped him getting humiliated in the cup early doors and his first comment about it was Ward is our number one. You definitely need competition for places, also training with a better group of keepers can only be good for Stolarczyk anyway, as well as having someone pushing for his place.

Disagree, competition is a great incentive for better performance.

For every position bar goalkeeper I completely agree.

Competition is very very important, regardless of position. I’m certain Marti will bring the squad together and get them playing as a bonded team and imagine Jakob remains number. Not worried one bit.

Having witnessed Danny Ward filling in for our injured keepers on numerous occasions, I could disagree with this more.

He was fine as a number 2. Played early rounds of the cups and generally did well for us.

The problem was when we sold our number 1 (Kasper) we didn't replace him and expected Ward to be the number 1. He couldn't deal with the pressure of that and crumbled.

The first choice keeper should be made to feel comfortable in his position.

I think you need balance in terms of the ability of your no.2.

Having such a drop off between 1 and 2 isn't exactly good for the club is it. Obviously your no.2 isn't going to be as talented but they have to be good enough for the level you're at.

bang on. can’t think of a single situation where there isn’t a clearly defined number 1, where both keepers perform to the best of their ability.

if a manager creates any doubt for a keeper that usually ends in tears. hopefully he’s coming here fully expecting to be a back up and he’s comfortable with that.

Arsenal with Raya and Ramsdaleas a bad example, Brighton with Verbruggen and Steele as a good 1.

Jakub can be a clearly defined number 1, but I hope Vieites is close enough in quality for him to know, if there's a drop off in form then there's somebody else who can come in. Ward was terrible all season and never had a threat to his position until it was too late, with Rodgers even stating that his place in the team is safe.

It's detrimental in any other position to have zero competition for their place, I don’t see why a goalkeeper should be amy different.

I thought Brighton fans think verbruggen is muck?

Sometimes I become aware of breathing. Or blinking. Like I become consciously, mindfully aware of it. It’s awful. It’s happened a few times today. When it happens the panic of course is that it never ends. That I have to spend the rest of my life consciously breathing or blinking. That thought floors me. And terrifies me. I’m hoping sleep helps me forget about it. But fvck, this time it really feels permanent you know?

Seems a decent goalkeeper tbf.
