Sly Posted 25 September 2025 Posted 25 September 2025 https://www.teamtalk.com/manchester-city/news-star-could-push-january-loan-leicester-southampton-plot-eye-catching-moves Man City star could ‘push’ for January loan as Leicester, Southampton plot eye-catching moves – sources Manchester City star James Trafford, with caption: Uncertain future James Trafford is facing an uncertain future at Manchester City despite only re-joining in the summer, and TEAMtalk understands that a January loan is now a realistic possibility, with Southampton and Leicester City interested. The 22-year-old England goalkeeper has fallen down Pep Guardiola’s pecking order since the blockbuster signing of Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain. The Italian, widely regarded as one of the world’s elite shot-stoppers, has claimed the number one spot, relegating Trafford to the bench just months after his high-profile move from Burnley in the summer of 2025. With the World Cup looming, questions are mounting over whether the young keeper can secure the regular playing time needed to cement his place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad. Trafford, who impressed at Burnley with his composure and reflexes, was seen as a long-term investment for City. However, Donnarumma’s arrival has disrupted his trajectory, limiting him to cup competitions like the FA Cup and Carabao Cup. While these matches offer valuable minutes, they fall short of the consistent week-in, week-out action Trafford needs to stay sharp and catch Tuchel’s eye. Sources close to the player suggest he’s acutely aware of the stakes, with England’s goalkeeping hierarchy still fluid and Jordan Pickford consistently good for Everton… A January loan move is now a realistic possibility, with sources indicating Trafford may push for a temporary departure to ensure regular football. Several Premier League and Championship clubs are monitoring the situation, with Southamptonand Leicester touted as potential destinations. However, any loan would require Manchester City to secure a short-term backup goalkeeper to cover Trafford’s absence, given the demands of their multi-competition schedule. Guardiola has praised Trafford’s potential, but the club’s focus on immediate silverware may prioritize Donnarumma’s experience. Trafford’s camp remains optimistic, emphasizing his youth and long-term prospects. At 6’6”, his commanding presence and distribution skills align perfectly with modern goalkeeping demands, making him a strong contender for England’s future. Yet, with the World Cup on the horizon, time is ticking. A loan could be the key to keeping his international dreams alive, but City’s final decision will shape his path. For now, Trafford waits, determined to prove he belongs among the elite.
Popular Post Nick Posted 25 September 2025 Popular Post Posted 25 September 2025 Hmm, great keeper but being honest would rather stick with Jakub and spend the loan wages in the outfield. 24
Popular Post moore_94 Posted 25 September 2025 Popular Post Posted 25 September 2025 (edited) Really can’t see him dropping back into the Championship, someone in the Prem would definitely pick him up if he was available on loan Edited 25 September 2025 by moore_94 7
CornwallFox Posted 25 September 2025 Posted 25 September 2025 Man city have properly done him dirty with the donnarumma signing 2 1

filbertway Posted 25 September 2025 Posted 25 September 2025 Not sure why we're linked, we don't need a keeper and it's not a position crying out for improvement in. 1 1
AKCJ Posted 25 September 2025 Posted 25 September 2025 I like Stolarcyzk but an opportunity to get arguably the best young keeper in the country is one we should take. He basically single-handedly promoted Burnley last season. 1
Samilktray Posted 25 September 2025 Posted 25 September 2025 I'm not sure how you turn this deal down if its an option. Far better than what we currently have (granted I've never seen the bloke from Betis actually play football)

Seems a non-story to me. We've made Jakub no1, and signed two keepers in the last window. For that reason alone this won't happen. 2
indierich06 Posted 25 September 2025 Posted 25 September 2025 I would frankly be amazed if there wasn't a PL club interested in taking him on loan in Jan.

They were just exercising their clause to buy back Trafford and make a future profit on him as they often do all of their youngsters.

I think they absolutely intended for him to be number one but then an unexpected opportunity arrived to sign donnarumma. There was zero talk of them looking at keepers until psg dropped him. 1

MPH Posted 25 September 2025 Posted 25 September 2025 There’s no doubt he’d be an upgrade on Jakob. i still feel there’s other positions we need to upgrade on first. Jakob is NOT the problem.

Not doubting he's one for the future - but if you look at Raya or Alisson - they are miles ahead so Man C will naturally want to fill in with an experienced keeper once Ederson left.
JimJams Posted 25 September 2025 Posted 25 September 2025 (edited) Not sure why we'd be interested. Man City paid £27mill for him, we're not going to be able to buy him, so it's only workable as a loan, and why upset the apple cart for a season? Edited 25 September 2025 by JimJams
Jimmy Posted 25 September 2025 Posted 25 September 2025 seems like Agent talk to sniff out a prem loan move, far too expensive for us to do given we have 3 keepers and Jakub has been really good overall 1
Lambert09 Posted 25 September 2025 Posted 25 September 2025 No way we’re interested tbh. Could see us going for him next season though…. If we find a way up

Foxin_Mad Posted 26 September 2025 Posted 26 September 2025 A complete waste of time. We need a striker who can shoot and midfielder who can midfield before anything else 1
JJohn Posted 26 September 2025 Posted 26 September 2025 A keeper is the farthest position from need as we have. Jakub is a prem standard, maybe not as good as trafford but good enough for us when we need every other position other than wing upgrading.
