The first game back after Covid, Watford away when Nige was their boss. Last minute Dawson equaliser, a slow descent followed and then as soon as Kasp left, it nosedived. Phil

Its been said but its when Top took over. Vichai didn't have much of a clue but he at least knew how to fire people and was interested.

Top not having the guts to sack Rodgers at least a year before he should have done - then failing to spot the sabotage that ensued.

We wasted the money from the league win with some pretty shocking signings,  but the rot started May '21 when we finished 5th again.

We had an un-sustainable wage bill without champions league football and have been in decline ever since.

The summer of 24 was especially shocking with some terrible decisions by Topkin with the appointment of Cooper, signing Ayew, Skipp, BDR, Okoli and BEK with money we don't have.

That summer sealed out fate with relegation to league 1 and possible administration.

If we're talking this season, the failure to get a proven manager in early and not signing a centre forward, longer term not sacking Rodgers earlier.

When we let Schmeichel go. Not only losing an incredible goalkeeper we also lost our last genuine remaining leader who had very high standards.

We would never be in this mess if we didnt let kasper go, or at least replaced him with a reasonably competent keeper

Although we had the FA Cup to show for it short term and European football, I'd say the rot properly started when we gave Rodgers the long contract when Arsenal were reported to be sniffing.

Giving him the control was the beginning of the end as his transfers were mostly terrible, Rudkin's luck had started to run out and Top had started to undo his Dad's work.

The way we caved in on that Rodgers contract. He was never going to Arsenal. We put ourselves on the back foot as a club. Started acting like a small club.

Now we've got to a point where people think we should be rolling over for bang average Championship players like Harry Winks. We became submissive as a club.

When we bottled finishing in the Prem top 4 two years in a row. As soon as that happened alarm bells should have been ringing. The FA Cup win masked the danger signs of a weak footballing mentality. Under Pearson/Shakey/Walsh we were never bottlers.

Losing to Spurs with two stoppage time goals should have been a sackable offence for the manager.

A real leader at the club who understands football (Pearson) would have been proactive about sorting this shit out and not giving shit players big contracts (Rudkin).

Does anyone have a genuine opinion when the rot started. I'm not asking for years back because I genuinely thought we would go back up this season but its now looking like it's the opposite.

What changed the players mindset, when did the rot start to creep in and why are our players so weak mentally and physically

The rot set in with Rodgers after the FA cup win.

As for this season I said from the start we would go down if the points deduction put us in the fight.

This lot don't have a pair of bollox between them for a fight. The most gutless team I've ever seen. I go back to 74.

I can't and won't back against us. But being honest I should have put hundreds on us going down I was that certain these cvnts would take us down.

When we signed Perez for 30m that was the start for me.

Pretty sure the OP wants discussion about why we have had such a bad season, this season specifically

This season it's the points deduction, sacking of Cifuentes and collapse against Southampton. Nobody even spoke about a relegation battle before those 3 things, we were chasing glory and the premiership unaware we could actually get worse. I'd be interested to know whether RVN would of stayed on the championship, we wasted 5 months between about March last year and August before we got Cifuentes in. At the start of the season we weren't really playing well but picked up some points thanks to individual moments from James and Fatawu.

January 2020.

We were the 3rd best team in the country. Cracks were starting to show with injuries.

We needed 1, possibly 2 good signings to lift the squad & add depth.

We signed Ryan Bennett on loan, & finished 5th.
