“I’ve never seen anything like it,” he said. “So I saw the play, and I’m a person that loves sports and was a good athlete. I understand sports really well. Really well.

Trump added: “We’re going to have a full team, and Belgium is going to have a full team, and you know what? If they beat us, then they can be really proud. The other way, if they beat us ... I say it was rigged, just like the election was rigged in 2020.”

lol ****ing unreal!

Is this a joke or a real quote? I just can’t tell anymore

Ironically, Balogun is someone who benefitted from birthright citizenship, which is a process that Trump is trying to ban

Is this a real quote? If so do you have the source?

edit: found it, it’s real. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2026/jul/06/trump-fifa-balogun-red-card-review-intervention?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

This just gets worse and worse, looks absolutely awful for FIFA.

Shame it looks borderline impossible to overthrow them. Someone needs to drain that swamp. European nations should pull out of future iterations.

on the plus side, if the Belgians at all played the long game… this could be what is used to get rid of Infantino..

If I was Belgium I'd refuse to play if Balogan is in the team, call FIFA out.

Also, Balogan has the chance to become an international legend by pulling himself from the team. Immense kudos points on offer, especially as they're unlikely to be going much further, with our without him.

It should also be pointed out that Balogan's parents are exactly the kind of people Trump is denying entry to the country.

Balogun is playing for the USA because of his birthright citizenship, which trump is trying to outlaw

This match has been dull watch, two teams being very cautious and cancelling each other out. Someone needs to gamble otherwise it's going all the way to pens i think.

Here we go. Not surprising at all…

We would be better off trying to appeal yellow cards for Rice, Bellingham, Guehi and OReilly as all four could be banned for a potential semi with one more yellow

Looks like Starmer had a say on the kick off time for the game but it changed anyway..

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cjwgggp28dlo

He wanted it to stay the same and instructed the FA, who agreed it shouldn't be moved, that he agreed for the sake of the fans who wont make it in time and lose thousands on travel/tickets etc. Mexico also agreed but for different reasons.

Starmer saying to the FA "here is my opinion" in a case like this isnt ringing the head of FIFA and asking for it not to be changed.

Does anyone think if say Belgium had a player sent off in the last match Fifa would have been receptive to an appeal by the Belgium government? Back in 1990 when Gazza got a soft yellow card it would never have crossed anyone's mind to appeal should England  got to the final. Some people are so morally corrupt they are happy to accept this nonsense

There are 4 downs, the ball is brown. Touchdowns are 6 points, fg are 3......

Word salad bollox. He has to go over this incompetent cheating

But he won't. Who, in FIFA, is going to risk their income and chuck him out?

FIFA  and the lapdogs that surround him aren't going to piss in their own pot.
