So, getting this back on track....... the club have just announced the permanent move away for BEK

Being 1st July, maybe they are starting the ball rolling with departure news, to then start announcing signings?

It's how they've worked in the past

Is that actually true though, I don't mean fans saying it, as we've got fans that still want Daka so... I mean did they carry it out.

From the games I saw, his Southampton team absolutely did, and in the championship they led on Passes Per Defensive Action, which I'd take as the strongest indicator of aggressive out of possession press, with the most shots from turnovers.

I'm lazy so I will refer this to @moore_94 @kingfox what are the metrics that measure running stats and pressing / pressures that could stack up if Martin's teams are well prepared to play that style of football or are invariably unfit.

Isn’t it measured by how far you can cover… or was it engine capacity… yeah that was it… cc… Conor Chaplin. Stay on topic people!

PPDA is a stat I usually look at.

I believe Martin’s Southampton ranked 1st in that statistic in the 23/24 season.

Apologies @RedSoxUK didn’t read your post at first, you’re right 👍🏻

That's reassuring, passive defending is a masterclass of ours as is being out of position which Martin's teams risk playing a high line. One other thing to consider is how badly his teams seemingly perform in the latter stages of games where they either throw away goals and points or a lot of chances that could have been dropped points. His Swansea team was renowned for this, sure I read they would have been playoffs one year if it were not for a lot of points dropped at the end sighting fatigue either physically or mentally from what they are asked to do.

Southampton was similar but I also remember them scoring quite ablit at the end as their games were basketball at times.

Are you basing that on any metrics?

You know this how? He also has brought a fitness coach in + Conor Hurihane who knows the fitness requirements for L1

No, not metrics, just know a number of Southampton fans as have family there and it was something moaned about a fair bit.  I haven't got any metrics for moaning either. Could be the fitness wasn't up to Premier League standard as posts since illustrate it wasn't a problem at Champ level.

So I guess it's just "vibes".

It was about the only stat I was encouraged by, when I delved into those statistics when he was linked to the job last year. Southampton’s possession stats though, unsurprisingly were enough to make your eyes bleed.

If you want to keep tabs throughout next season, this is the place Ric

Just toggle around where it says Attacking and go down to Pressing 👍🏻

I think for up and coming players we have those in our youth team so I'd expect us to be able to compete financially with half the championship with a couple of sales.

By the end of the window we should have the strongest team in League one if we spend sensibly.

i am not so sure my friend, struggling to get some of the high earners off the books i have been told.

This is where the new TD makes a name for himself

Surely people aren't getting wound up because we haven't already signed a potentially washed Conor Chaplin.

There's no guarantee he will ever return to the form he found for those couple of seasons at Ipswich.

If it happens I hope he finds that form again but if it doesn't then there's a decent chance it's a bullet dodged.

We've been linked with some proper dross. At least Conor Chaplin is a name we've actually heard of and he's under 30, and he's had at least some pedigree in the last 2 or 3 years
