Dont see the issue with 3 years, I doubt hes on huge wages like Ayew/BDCR and by all accounts wont be as shocking. Please 🙏 good enough for a promotion season and a stabilise in the championship one

Good signing for League 1 . Possible to sell for a small profit next summer 

Unfortunately we may have to loan him to Southampton for the pre season to get the not ex Southampton monkey off his back

Because we need players with fire in their belly, and some sell on value. He has been on a slow decline and his pourtsmouth stint last season shows this. He is on a free from a team bsck in prem so won’t be cheap. I don’t overly rate this signing, so for me 2 years would be better than 3.

On a free it's a decent signing if he is on a decent wage. Not sexy but we don't need sexy, we need to get promoted at the first or 2nd attempt max and he fits the bill.

 

Having him as backup in championship will be fine as we stabilize.

 

We do need to make sure we are bringing in youth more this season as that will help us long term

Well he is over the hill. It's just that his 'hill' happens to be Mount Everest whereas Conor Chaplin's is more like a mole hill

We have young players with fire in their belly, Monga (sold) Ben Nelson - states he wants to leave the club, Alves and Braybrooke aren't proven yet. Do you think the youngsters will promote us single handedly? I doubt someone who is 29 would accept two years when other clubs would offer him three. 

 

He has scored 26 goals in league 1 for Ipswich, pretty much guaranteed a haul next year. If he does, we can profit on him, or keep him for Championship where again he is quite proven. 

 

Rather 3 years for a proven goalscorer than relying on kids to get promoted. If we don't get promoted this season we are toast. We probably won't have a club to support in 27/28

Good signing that. Surprisingly logical. Few bits and pieces happening that seem to indicate were in danger of elevating ourselves to an averagely run football club.

 

Edited to say, as long as were not dropping obscene wages on the guy.

To be fair his amazing season was 3/4 years ago and his only hugely prolific one.
 

The reviews from pomp fans suggest he is now half the player he was and in reality, he has scored 3 goals in the last 2 season. Safe to say, not prolific anymore.
 

It’s a risk like all transfers but given his age and resale value as well as his realistic wage for this level, 2 years is less of a risk and what we should be doing. 
 

If we can’t shift other “experienced” players on then 3 years make even less sense. For me this is similar to BDR and that hasnt worked at all. 
 

chaplin is ok for this level but 2 years would be better.

He’s 29  not 31. We need to build something that can grow, not sign someone we need to shift next year.
