Yep this is a whole new level of worse.

Mahrez still played for us for a number of years.
This is like we groom someone up, and then as soon as they ready, they gone, doesnt feel right at all.

 

The sport needs changing that requires academy players to stay at parent club for X years unless the club forfeits the right.

I just cant really become attached to any youth player, because with our current policy, the ones who are any good will be sold quickly to fund an inflated wage bill.

To be honest, at least we got a fee.
 

We are losing players at the U14 age group, which is a lot worse.

Arsenal offered 5m which we didn’t accept so we haven’t just accepted the first bid that came along.

Monga has done us a favour, guessing he likely agreed to the pro deal with us agreeing to sell him afterwards

So in a few years time he could be worth 30m but not now is that what you’re saying?

What’s he worth now?

Arsenal offered 5m no other club bid more than that other than the accepted bid from Man C.

We got 10m upfront + a further 2.5m in add ons + a % of any future sale. The rumoured sell on when Arsenal were negotiating was around 15% so if we use that and the potential 30m sale in a few years, on paper we have sold a 17yr old for £17m, a kid that only Arsenal had offered 5m for.

Once a kid wants to join the biggest club in the premier league it’s pretty hard to stop them, maybe we should have offered him the £67k per week he’s getting at Man C for the next 5yrs 🤷‍♂️

It’s a good deal all around. Monga got the exposure to mens football for a few years, we get an actual decent fee for him in comparison to Tribunal, Man City get a huge talent and hopefully we benefit further down the line with a nice sell on clause. 
 

Personally, think it’s a great deal for all involved.

There’s also £2.5m in potential add ons. If we hit anywhere close to his potential and achieves them add ons, then gets sold for let’s say £30m.
 

Hopefully we’ve included a minimum sell on fee of 15%, that would bring the total deal to around £15.5m. You’re not getting much more for a young lad that wanted to move to the elite level.

 

You also forget that whether we like it or not big clubs like Man City can demand higher fee’s than a club like ours when selling players. 
 

Let’s stop forcing negativity it’s a good deal.

Monga hit the glass ceiling of the ability of the coaches.  More value would have been unlocked if we had coaching staff and managers that improved his playing style from skinning his mates to playing in a team and using the tricks to get out of danger. 

 

The price was decent for our situation and current reputation.  He needed to get out from the chaos.

He's also going to be training with much better players at Man City each day so he should improve alot. 

 

It was a god deal for both, Arsenal offered a pittance but Monga doesn't look at the level of Dowman either.

Im not so sure going to clubs like man city are the best option for young lads. It can make sense when it works out but also there is so many others competing that you can easily get drowned/weeded out.

 

Wonder if these young lads would be better served going to established EPL teams that arent the top 6. More opportunity for actual first team starts, sub appearances. Then make a big money move to a team.like man city.

 

I know the problem though is that some of those epl teams will be priced out on wanting to pay the 10 mill for a possibility whereas man city can bleed with no consequences.

 

To each their own I suppose.

See now here’s where it becomes sticky for him, he’s played in the premier league for us now where do Man C place him?

He’s not going to their 1st team so where, most 17yrs old will be getting Lge 2 or SCO loans but again he’s played in the premier league already so what League 1 where we are or Championship?

If League 1 that can turn the noise off for all the ‘we need to show a way through to the 1st team…’ slayers because I think I’ve mentioned he played in the premier Lge for us.

ok then the championship but he’s 17, I doubt there are many championship clubs willing to spend the money it will cost them & have the trust in him to perform week in week out as they need for a season, we have seen 1st hand what a Man City academy lad can do but also seen how inconsistent they are due to age.

 

I think his loan will prove losing Monga was nothing to do with that we as a club don’t show a path to the 1st team but for the draw of labelling yourself to a giant of a club.

We aren't in a strong position given us being in league 1 and the financial issues we have.

I'm not sure Monga was developed last year.The potential he was said to have exceeded his performances.

 

It was hard for him to live up to the performance of cultured veterans such as Ayew.
