Jake Evans signs new deal and loaned to Cheltenham Town - Official

I hesitate to say this, but getting Evans to sign a new deal and sending him out on a loan seems sensible – so not a typical Rudkin move. 

Dare I say it, but with this move – and everything else we've seen this summer – do we think that we could perhaps, just perhaps, be turning a corner when it comes to brainless decisions?

It was more a comment on the fact that he couldn't possibly play as a striker because he's too small.

It’s a good move for Evans and to play with Otchere as well.

 

My concern, with both, is that if we get promoted this season, and they both stay at Cheltenham/L2 like Braybrooke last season, we won’t see them in the first team next season as there’s no way we essentially promoted them 2 divisions, bypassing L1 given the clubs mistrust in youth. Which them would mean contracts running down again and the chance of losing them.

Evans was in League One last season. Would like him to get some goals and confidence.

If they have a good season in league two then you renew contracts and send them to league one

 

Evans has 3 years now, not sure on Otchere though

The many thing is minutes and goals, it maybe we reassess in January, recall and re loan.

yes but Vardy would have failed if he didnt have all those other attributes so Evans will need other attributes too

I guess the issue is that Otchere absolutely earned his chance with 3 goals and 1 assist in pre season. Could have used that positive momentum to get a good start here (especially since we started the season without a single striker). Even if he's brilliant, the chances of him getting 20 goals for Cheltenham are close to 0. He could come back a better player but actually be further away from getting a chance here, which ruins his development. So much of making it in football (and life!) is down to timing and luck.

 

If we end up with at least another striker, ideally another versatile forward then it was definitely the right decision. It's just the fact that people are expecting these lads for destroy the league and if they don't, they're clearly not good enough, but it's definitely not that simple. Playing here with better players could see their output improve, even in a higher division; rising tides and all that.

 

The main thing is that they both play a lot. I wouldn't be jumping to any conclusions that they're not good enough of they don't produce amazing numbers.

Dont focus on the negatives of him being out on loan just because hes smashing it, it makes players into Men and makes them hit their potential much quicker like Barnes, KDH, Braybrooke etc … the fact hes smashing it proves its the right development plan for him than being on our bench.

I’m not sure we should bring him back unless there is a clear place for him to get minutes here. If he is smashing it by January though, a similar situation to Braybrooke but with a move to L1 could be good. Obviously it’s a fine balance not disrupting him from having a full breakout season. We’d also need to see where we are. If we have pushed on and are towards the top of the league, a move to lower L1 could be helpful without disruption to us. If we were struggling, that would be more complicated.

Exactly - leave him there and hopefully stays injury free and bangs in 20, that would be a real success

I'm still worried about where the goals are going to come from consistently this season.

 

If he has a successful loan that's fine for Evans but potentially not fine for us when we could need him.

Hopefully him and his agent completely missed Martin’s comments about the club wanting to send Alves out on loan.

 

The upside to Martin is he has realised the young lads actually work out better.
