It's getting pretty depressing how many promising youngsters we are losing out on :(

Seagrave dividend 🔥

When you think about it, the only way Seagrave can start paying itself back is if we actually get back to at least a top-flight yo-yo club. That's why we still got good money for Monga and potentially Page. Otherwise every player will leave before they turn 17 and if they don't, you'll be lucky to get more than a few million, which won't cover the running costs.

Seagrave pays itself back through players like Jayden Joseph who we managed to snag from Man City's academy.

It's not a place that magically produces great players, we'd likely have had players like Monga and Page with or without Seagrave because they're local-ish lads. Seagrave is about expanding that talent pool to hoover up as many great prospects as we can.

I'm not going to hammer the club on this one because I think this is a systematic error rather than our own, and Seagrave was a noble idea, but I do think we're going to see all the drawbacks from it (big costs) while seeing quite few of the benefits. That's four times now I think this has happened?

That’s where you have to have good analysts and scouts who find them. Seagrave is but the training ground.

We do also need to offer a pathway to the first team by at the very least training with the first team.

If we have a PL team on the pitch this is less of an issue.

Promising talent is less likely to leave if they can see PL football here to develop. We are so far off it right now then it’s a no brainer for them.

I agree, it's only really going to be an asset to supplement an already good set up. Imploding the way we have done after building it is a bit of a disaster and arguably makes it a liability rather than an asset.

I think some on here are maybe a little unrealistic with the level that we should have a young team but I do think in our position this is the route we need to be looking to go up really. Actually develop a reputation for ourselves as a club it's worth sticking around at until about 18 if nothing else. I mean I've seen people saying get Page back on loan - would he even bother? He isn't even guaranteed to play.

They would still go Man City.

But losing four players over that long isn't a catastrophe, especially now we seem to have got better at contracting them (compare nyoni and monga) - The very nature of the academy is one of extremes regarding success or failure for players - very few, as i'm sure you know, will actually go through any academy and stay with the club.

We shouldn't be critical of seagrave for the players it's lost, but complementary of it for how many players it has attracted that would never have come to us if we'd still been at belvoir drive.

You say this like non big 6 teams losing the best U-18 academy prospects is a unique problem that we're facing, in reality it's the standard, The rate that we are producing talents like Monga, Noubisse, Page, Motsi, Nyoni, Evans probably makes it look like we get picked off routinely but after retaining Monga, Page and Evans on pro deals I'd say we're one of the best at keeping our young talents compared to other non big 6 teams

****ing depressing, make me think, what is point in even trying or caring

Why? Against Northampton at the weekend we had 11 players that have come through the academy in the squad..so it is working still.

Honestly don't want 15 year old boys that don't want to be here no matter how good they are.

15 year old lads just want to play football. It's the parents who get swayed by the carrot these clubs dangle.

Guarantee that last season Mr and Mrs Motsi with young Darren were invited to watch a Champions League game in the Etihad exec suites free of charge including a lovely tour of the ground and training facilities.

Yes but also it's the perfect place to learn how to be a professional footballer.

If you've got a very talented young teenage son you're going to want him playing at Seagrave over whatever facilities the likes of Coventry, Forest or Derby have to offer.

Isn't this a bit OTT?

Yep, killing the game IMO. Everything is skewed in favour of the big teams.
