I remember the FA Cup R3 tie in 1984-85 season when we stuffed them 6-1, a match played at the Sheep's Baseball Ground (crowd trouble there too) due to an expectant crowd possibly or Burton's not being big enough! They were non league back in those days still though of course....like quite a few of the teams now occupying the bottom two EFL divisions were!

Population of Burton alone is like 50,000 to 60,000. Only 5% of that probably just follow Burton. Most folk who live there support the local big clubs.

No coincidence that through all of pre-season and now the start of the season, we've gone from being a threat going forward and pressing aggressively to zero outlet and that's since Reid came in as the 9 in the Genoa game onwards.

 

This is where I'll have zero sympathy for Martin if he doesn't quickly stop this nonsense.

I’m not sure we will win any games comfortably as our style is just very slow and turgid but we don’t have the talent we had in the Championship under Maresca to just grind teams down.

 

Most games will be a lottery, we will win some obviously but there will be a lot of frustrating draws (it wouldn’t surprise me if we draw more games than we win) and we will lose a few. 
 

I can see another draw in this one.

Yep, we actually looked quite good at the high press earlier in pre season when Otchere was starting games, started to make me think Martin had learned something…

We have to get back to the high pressing, front footed football on Saturday, the last 3 we haven’t really looked anywhere near as threatening. As Ric says hopefully Bobby will be dropped and we will see a more high energy performance as last 2 have been pretty lacklustre. 
 

I am really concerned that there has been nothing in the way of outgoings for a couple of weeks now and we still have 5/6 that really need moving on to ensure we have a complete reset, I am getting similar vibes to last season, where we had a few players in and around the squad that didn’t want to be here and it created a very negative atmosphere which had catastrophic consequences on our season. McCarron and Rudkin have got some serious work to do otherwise I can see Russell having a very  challenging job ahead especially if he is expected to integrate these players into his matchday squad.

We have more than capable players to open teams up with a drive from Sammy passing to Alves or Burns in space ahead, just like KDH learnt how to do.  Instead they are listening to Skipp pointing backwards as soon as we cross the halfway line.

Seeing Bradford top of the league 5 points ahead of us, is pretty shite tbh even at this early stage of the season… 

 

We need to go on a prolonged winning run,

Anything less is unacceptable imo.

Yep. I just fear we will play too slow. That will hinder us and couple with a poor defence, crap GK and limited striking options does seem a concern.

 

A lot of people just think we will smash the league because our players cost the most in fees and wages but how did that work out for us last season?

 

I’m not saying we can’t do well but there’s glaring gaps, position wise and just overall strengths such as physicality and set pieces. People say we need to be prepared to break teams down and we do. But set pieces for example are a leveller and we have neglected this area for so long. Look at Arsenal, even a top team can gain the benefits.
