LW is his best position IMO, which he also said himself last week.

I don't think it is his best position for a few reasons. He's skillful but not quick enough for a Winger. He's not left footed which is why he never goes on the outside prefering to cutback inside.

What he does have is quick feet with the Ball, He's a good passer of the Ball, Which helps in tight area's and an eye for Goal. Which is why I think he's more suited to a midfield role.

He also played in the middle in preseason where he done well and scored.

But it doesn't matter what we think it's down to Russell and he needs to find solutions quickly.

For those on Virgin media, I had a text saying they did a patch to sort out sky sports + issues last week, so anyone who had problems last time might get on better tonight. If it still doesn't work you can use your virgin login to watch on sky sports website on a laptop etc as a fallback option.

Fingers crossed that Stolarcyck has a good game otherwise we are trouble. McCarthy as 1st choice for Martin is reminiscent of the self destructive partnership of Ward being 1st choice for Rodgers. It feels like it’s only going one way. We really should’ve signed direct competition or an upgrade to Stolarcyck rather than friends of Martin - a veteran back up wanting a last hurrah and a vibes man 3rd choice clearly signed with both parties not expecting him to play a game in anger.

I don't think you need to be quick to be a winger if you're a top tier dribbler.

Saka, Grealish, Rodgers, Palmer etc all proof of that.

Hopefully Alves can carry on impressing with Watson to come on and offer something different. Don't get me wrong, I think that (like the players above) Alves can impact a team from the middle of the pitch but his best attribute is the ability to get the ball down and drive. You lose that if you play him centrally IMO.

If Thomas is up against Fatawu tonight we may concede 5. If he is up against McAteer and can’t even keep him quiet then there’s no hope.

Hoping for a good game and a win would be huge for the weekend game.

McAteer is better than the Notts County/Burton lads who have made him look amateur last couple of weeks, there is no hope, he is crap. I’m usually the type who believes that if a player isn’t performing it is almost always because they aren’t in the right situation, but with him I just can’t imagine the right situation or style that wouldn’t have him look awful. Maybe as a LWB with a really really really good LCB and a big striker for him to just cross at

As expected, a low away following tonight despite the reasonable prices. That performance and result on Saturday (in front of a 26k home crowd) was a proper blow to the morale and any early season optimism. It's still early days but we're coming into this one on the back of yet another new low in our club's history.

Deffo wasn’t 26K home fans there.

For the love of good please give Lorenz Hutchinson a go up front at some point tonight.

Think we both know he won’t even be in the squad
