Personally I think just shy of the play offs is probably more realistic, but the owners are ambitious and put their money where their mouth is and based on budgets we should be up there, I think we had a top 10 League 1 budget last season while in League 2. 1

jv1 Posted 27 August Posted 27 August (edited) Good selection headache on the wings - the 2 boys midweek did really well - made us look a real threat - are burns and alves first choice and are they actually better than the other 2 - Who knows you could argue Howell looks the best of all 4 from what we have seen so far but I know there is a push for alves to start again - actually a tough decision as I still think burns and Chaplin will probably link up very well and those 2 are the biggest goal threats out of all of them Chaplin linked the play very well and looked proper captain material to me the other night - continually talking to the young lads and I thought played very well mcfarlane has to start at left back , the Finn will start at Cb I’m sure so it’s a toss up between jj or aluko or both to also be in the back 4 - and are we saying we don’t want Okoli or souttar in the 11? I’d imagine unless the souttar one is imminent he will play as he has done so far Bristic has to keep starting as he needs a run of games and let’s be honest there is no other option sammy and page must have done enough to start in cm together again surely Edited 27 August by jv1

They're all learning on the job right now and it's going to take a few games for most to realise and adapt to the speed, physicality and tactics. We need to get the ball to the midfield before we start passing it around too much otherwise we'll concede far too many goals. 1

I actually wonder if Aluko is more suited to CB rather than RB longer term, especially in a Russell setup. Good at carrying the ball out from defence, but not sure he is technically good enough in tight areas for RB, as JJ is. Very useful player to have on the bench if he can cover all defensive positions. Especially with a 7 man bench. 1

With a Russell Martin team - particularly at this stage of its development - that seems unlikely as one inevitable mistake will let in the other team for a chance or goal. We have already seen unforced errors cause most of our goals against this season, so we always have that in us (and probably in the team’s heads) until we get more confident with Russell-ball.

Yes hes gaining his fitness but he is a class above everybody else in the team and is our genuine creative player. 65 minutes with Howell then replace him with Burns.
