Reid and Cullen offered **** all again. Neither have any quality.

 

Wanted Martin to give a few more minutes to Bristric. Started slow but was just hitting his stride and linking the play nicely before he was hooked. Really wanted him to bag a goal.

It was a win, but **** sake why is Russell hell bent on making life so hard for himself. 
 

Firstly the negatives.

 

I don’t know what on earth is going on with these goal kicks… but to beat a press you can’t have your entire back four pretty much in a line more or less level with the penalty spot…. It means the opposition can literally camp on the edge of the area and wait for you to tie yourselves in knots… Plymouth could have had at least three goals today from whatever that was…. You’ve got to stagger the positions, have one receiving CB, who’s aim is to punch a pass into the dropping 6’who will then offload it to either JJ inverting, or Thomas, move out of that space. Allowing the other CM to drop in pop a pass into the advancing runner in space and open the pitch up….. something we did time and time again under Enzo…. And we simply don’t do it, we play possession football stood still, and we will one day end up 3-0 down because of it. It’s something Brussel has got to address (which he won’t) because it’s utterly suicidal. 
 

Second issue is creating chances for. Number 9, again, we just aren’t playing football that suits Bristric, I felt sorry for him today, he was desperate to have the ball played onto the spaces he was running into and it never arrived.. he is still learning, and I so actually like him, there’s something about him that I think in time he will come good, but it’s a mixture of inexperience, and a style that at the moment doesn’t suit him.

 

Besides that, we were clearly the better team, and rightfully won, but it wasn’t convincing, and I think it’s definitely a coaching style thing over players… pound  pound, that squad should be winning the league, as a defensive unit we didn’t look like conceding, even though we somehow gifted them some piss chances….. Page is the best player in the league, by some distance, Braybrook was alright, legs went a bit and he’s a yard off the pace, but I think he will grow into this team nicely, Alves and Howell were superb. They both commit their fullbacks, and cause havoc.love how they both play….

 

Burns is shit, as is Cullen, but I quite liked Warson’s cameo, didn’t do a great deal but I think he may be useful coming off the bench and will have a part to play. 
 

It was alright overall, Plymouth were dogshit, and Brussel’s methods are holding this group back in my opinion….. this lot are capable of taking most teams to the cleaners in this league, form what I saw tonight, but they won’t, because we’ve got a space cadet as a manager, who’s obsession with stroking his ego will restrict what this team is really capable of.

Thought Reid got into good positions to score tonight, but fluffed his lines. He was also chasing hard right until the end. I think Martin likes that in his players. I'm not suggesting he had a great game, just that at least he was there to try and take the chances.

Goalie scares the life out of me. Takes far too long to move the ball, made 2 good saves tonight so I'll be easy on him. Going forward there is excitement at times that I'm not used to, we look dangerous then don't want to shoot. The defence just needs to learn to get rid instead of trying to play out. Players still chasing the ball at 90 mins was nice to as the fitness last year was garbage. 3 points, thank you 🥳

Controlled the game throughout. Really positive performance with some lovely passages of play. Should have won by a much larger margin, but overall pleased with that performance tonight. 

 

Delighted for McCarthey at the end, some truly amazing saves to keep us in the game. Deserved it after his torrid start where he looked so uncomfortable with the ball at his feet. 

 

Felt for Bobby tonight. Thought he played well for once. Work rate was improved, got into some lovely positions to score, but his finishing simply let him down. I'm convinced it's a confidence crisis. Anyone who's ever played as an attacker will relate to that performance. Sometimes you can do everything right but just don't get the rub of the green. I'm sure once he finds the net he'll suddenly go on a bit of a run. I may be wrong and he could just be sh*te, but he's certainly finding some good positions to receive the ball which is at least encouraging. 

 

Thought both McFarlane and Braybrooke were immense tonight. Nice to also see strong performances from Joseph and Alves. Souttar got better as the game went on, and a special shout out to Luke Thomas, 2 league starts at CB, and 2 clean sheets. 

 

Pick up another win on Saturday, and we can start looking forwards and leave the negativity behind. 

 

Crazy to think we're still work in progress and will likely have Kangasniemi, Riis, Lundstram, O'Hora, and Chaplin challenging for starting places in the coming weeks. 

 

Lots of positives to take from tonight, and nice to come away from the ground feeling happy for once.

Enjoyed tonight, thought every player came off with credit bar Cullen. Game of two halves for McCarthy. Devastating for Jakub, right in front of us and he was very distressed. Disappointed for Bristric that he was pulled, he works hard and has something. Thought Souttar was so much better and loved his forward gallop the length of the field. Burns getting a bit of stick but at least he’s physical. Come home to read we are keeping Page is the icing on the cake

Well obviously there is a lotta love for Bobby dazzler but for an experienced player he should be finishing 70% of these chances off.

especially the absolute sitters. I get that even the best will miss the odd sitter from time to time. Maybe the pressure is getting to us fans. We are in peril and desperately need to be winning and getting to the top of this league so we can get back up to the championship. Shame we couldn’t get Antonio from west ham or someone like him.

EOD we need goals and wins which leads to points.
