How will we all feel if Man City get off on a technicality, arguing the money came from the UAE government and not the owners?

The PL are very amateur and I don't believe their rules from 2009-2018 will be watertight.

After all, Leicester found a loophole😂

It'd be hilarious. All the people frothing at the mouth with their pitchforks out would have a generational head loss

They'll probably agree on a settlement behind closed doors which the public will not be privy to, isn't that how it usually works in high-profile cases where both parties stand to lose something?

I live reasonably close to Man City's ground - 25 mins or so. Friends and colleagues support them. To say the responses have been all over the place is an understatement.

I think the most astute I've heard is from a bloke who works in football. "We'll either get off lightly because the league knew for a decade and or we'll get hammered because the league knew for a decade and doesn't want to look bad"

How can getting £800M + off of a state UAE to buy players be allowable by the PL rules.

I just can't fathom how that can be justified apart from making a mockery of any attempt to creative a competitive league doesn't it allow foreign states the power to dictate the running of the league which is apparently what's happening with Man City

It's not just that, though, is it - it's the fact they also LIED about it!

Yes I get that and I'm sure an element of financial jiggery pokery goes on everywhere I just can't believe that they can legitimately get given £880m+ from a State legally.

So we could legitimately get a gift from the Thai government and it would be allowed to spend it how we wish.

In essence, how is it different from Man Utd getting £900m over the same period from Adidas for supplying kits?
I don't condone it, but if Man City (or any club really) were to compete with Man Utd or even Arsenal and Liverpool, the only way they were to do it within a reasonable and realistic time frame is through injection of funds like they've done.

I can only imagine that there will be a lid put on this, because it will only open a can of worms regarding club ownership.

What a strange take. They have been cheating everyone for 15 years - including us, which has had a serious effect on our fortunes.

And their only remaining defence is openly saying that they were in fact only sportswashing for a dodgy government when they were lying and trying to cover it up.

If they get away with this how you can you possibly apply any meaning to a sport that is provably and undeniably fixed? It’s farcical.

Meh.  As Prime Minister he has to have a 'bigger picture' outlook on such matters, beyond football itself.  As such, yes, Abu Dahbi relations are going to be affected and that's a political issue that he would rather not have to deal with, so to try and say it's ALL GOOD for politics would be a lie, even if it's necessary for the sport.

You wouldn't want a liar for Prime Minister, would you? :P  /s

He shouldn’t be commenting on it at all.

Instead of lying he’s openly saying ‘I have a vested interest in this so I’m gonna give the FA / PL a nudge to not scare these wonderful corrupt sportswashers away’. Which is no better, is it?

I genuinely don't care. Football is crooked anyway, especially at the top. The premier league make rules that they can't even govern, let's not forget Man City have only been caught due to a leaked email.

Obviously they should and will be heavily punished for all of this but the people revelling in it is a bit weird imo. There's no real winner here

I agree, the rules are not fit for purpose and "PSR" is only to the benefit of Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal.

Any other club owner that wants to fund their club is hamstrung from competing at the top.

They've made it a closed shop.

So many different ways at looking at this. Like where does it stop?

People will have lost jobs unfairly at football clubs because of their fraud, basically. Players seeking compensation for lost bonuses etc. Even someone putting a bet on should be entitle to compensation in my opinion.

The scale of this is genuinely unbelievable.

Whilst, historically the 'big' club have also 'bought' their success, Man City's recent success is a little different is it not? They've absolutely dominated since 2009

I haven't seen him say anything that suggests that.  This really sounds like it's what you WANT him to be saying, just so you can complain about it.  I think he knows that getting PERSONALLY involved in the League's busines is a bad move.  But he still has to be aware of any further ramifications, of which there will be some, and THAT is the point.

Because the PL rules aren't very well written legally, they must have used a YTS lawyer.

If anyone needs punishment it's the PL in my opinion.

The whole rule book needs re-writing by an independent Commission who are totally unbiased from outside pressures from the big clubs, like Liverpool, Arsenal, Man Utd etc...

They should allow for owner investment, it should be possible for someone to buy Southend, invest billions and win the premier league.

This decision should be used as a sea change moment in football.

Man city did not "win" any cups, leagues or chanmpionships.

They BOUGHT them.

Rubbish. Every club buys players.

Nobody has won trophies without buying players in about 100 years.

Unlikely, but if they did, all of those titles and trophies won during this period will not be viewed as credible by the football world. The die is cast with no going back whatever happens.

The dark clouds that hung over our club during the investigation and wait for the punishment announcement was a depressing time. It must be 115 times worse for ManC fans with the thought that all those moments will be cancelled.

Not really Man U had such a head start, they won 7 of the first 10 Premier league titles.

Man City have spent to join the party, but haven't won the league for 2 seasons.

Man U have 13 PL titles, how many would they have if it wasn't for the Man City money?

More competition is better for the game.

Because Adidas aren’t owned by Jim Radcliffe or the Glazers. Alongside proof that they can illustrate a tender process as well

In the leaked emails the Man City CFO literally types that on the Eithiad sponsorship deal that £8 million comes from the company and another £80 million from the government.

Man City went from 0 to 100. No incremental increase to at least try and show it the value of their deals following a market.

I'd love to see a definitive list of all the clubs, individual people and companies that have a viable case to sue them. Absolutely mental

I can't help but feel aggrieved that Spurs with 1 trophy make the list, Leicester are in other clubs.

Agree. We won two of those trophies in that time. Usual big club bias that shouldn't trigger me yet still does.

Yet people talk about protecting the "integrity" of the sport
