lee7 Posted 1 July 2007 Posted 1 July 2007 This would be a good signing, he's similar to Cort, can be lazy but equally can be brilliant, very good in the air from what I remember when he last played against us, I think he'd basically be an insurance policy for Corts signing, Job would stay fit a lot more, but we have a similar player to come in when Jobs injured in Carl Cort. Would be nice to have 2 big strikers and 2 smaller. hopefully if he did come allen would'nt let him be lazy
Pete_foxes Posted 1 July 2007 Posted 1 July 2007 i guess McCay was at boro while he was there? maybe he has a hand in this one?If it turns out to be true mt McCay is proving to be quite a useful, wise old head already. he certainly is. I can't understand why did we not have anybody like Don Mckay before!? Because our board was run by a bunch of monkeys ?

Watford didn't want him either, so what makes him good enough for us suddenly? I'd sooner just stick with what we've got now rather than waste any wages on this loser! I'd sooner invest in the midfield more if this is the best Allen and Mandaric can come up with! Cheers.

dandannieldanok Posted 1 July 2007 Posted 1 July 2007 He is in a better run of form than Cort who is a similar player, 9 goals in 20 starts is respectable for a side that got relegated.

Okay he did kind of fail at 'Boro but he's better than some players we've got! And there's plenty more time to invest in a midfield and its only a free transfer!
Simi Posted 1 July 2007 Posted 1 July 2007 he certainly is. I can't understand why did we not have anybody like Don Mckay before!? Because our board was run by a bunch of monkeys ? Having zero money, and being in administration didn't help either I guess.
Uncle Monty Posted 1 July 2007 Posted 1 July 2007 Job, another ageing flop of a striker, **** hell wen is mandaric guna splash the cash! i think freddy eastwood could do a JOB at city

Ric Flair Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 I'd be pleased with Joseph Desire Job, can play on the wing as well as up front. Middlesborough often played him out there and that's perhaps why his scoring record wasn't as good as it could have been. 9 in 25 for a relegated team last season is a decent return and in the Championship he could be a 20 goal a season player. I hope we sign him.

The People's Hero Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 Desire Job would be a good player to bring in. I like this rumour. Effective up front and can be utilised on either flank.

The People's Hero Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 Useful in a menage a trois Yes. He's useful. I'd describe myself as merely functional and grateful. A hole-filler, if you will (and I assume you will?)
Ric Flair Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 From the merc - City close in on striker signing Leicester City are closing in on their next signing - striker Joseph-Desire Job from French club Sedan. The Cameroon international would be City's eighth newcomer since Martin Allen took over as manager. And, confirming City's interest in Job, chairman Milan Mandaric revealed that there could still be “four or five'' more newcomers to follow. Mandaric said of the Job deal: “We are working on this. We have made an offer to him and we hope we can sort it out in the next two or three days. “He is just the sort of striker we have been looking for. He is strong physically, and he knows English football well from his time at Middlesbrough. “He has experience of football in the Premiership which is where we are trying to lift this club back up to.'' The 29-year-old Job has won 46 international caps for Cameroon, for whom he has scored six goals. He joined Middlesbrough in 2000 when the Teessiders paid Lens £3million for him. He left the Riverside last year, joining Sedan on a free transfer. He scored 22 goals in 112 appearances (37 as a substitute) for Boro and had loan spells at FC Metz and Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad. He has been in discussions with City after Sedan were relegated from Ligue 1 last month. The City squad return tomorrow for pre-season training with seven new faces already secured and Job would be far from the last if City have their way. Mandaric said: “It is a lot of work when you are completely rebuilding. From what I saw towards the end of last season, I was not impressed, and it needed more than just one or two new players to put it right. Job would give us the striker we need. "All departments still need strengthening, so there could be four or five new players still to arrive. You have to do what you have to do and I am going to turn every which way I can to give the supporters a reason to be positive and to make up for all their previous disappointments.'' Babylon Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 Best make them a good 4 or 5 because so far all we have done is rotate average players for a load more unproven players. If we get rid of those on the list i'd imagine our wage bill would actually be down on what it was last season.
Manwell Pablo Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 Having had time to mull it over this is a good piece of business, probabley one of the best as far as players I actually know about are concearned, I'm fairly confident if he gets 35 apperacnes for us he will score at least 12-15 goals if he plays up front.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 Personally I would prefer him to play on the right wing and for us to sign a striker who I'd be more confident of scoring 20 goals this season i.e. McLeod or Todorov. I don't see 20 goals coming from Job - or Cort, Fryatt or Hume for that matter. Cort up front with either McLeod or Todorov and Hume on the right would be what I'd be aiming for. I'm not sure where Job would fit into that. Or Fryatt. The frustrating wait continues...

I agree. I think he'd piss it at this level. There are plenty of average players who excel in this division in the right set up and players with any class can get 20 goals easily at this level. Still a good age in terms of whether he's still got all the ability he once had. Over 40 caps for a half decent nation and averaged a goal every 2 games or so for a club about as crap as us last season. I'm happy with this news if we get him. Wonder what happens if Todorov says he wants to join us? Get both in? Tidy strikeforce then, if a little top heavy.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 Oh and the hyphen should be between Joseph and Desire, not between Desire and Job. This is going to be another Neilson/Nielson/Neilsen palaver I can see.

If we get rid of those on the list i'd imagine our wage bill would actually be down on what it was last season. If we sign Job, Kaebi, Morfaw, Hendrie/Clemence and a left winger then i'll be happy. If we have any cash left to get Todorov as well then i'd be delighted.
