I'm at a charity night

Peter Walton is here! Former Premier League ref, Peter Walton!

Top guy, he knows he gets laughed at on TV.

I reckon @UpTheLeagueFoxcan confirm that Peter is a legend

Not seen or spoken to Peter in a while.

He invited me to a function a fair few years back and we lost contact when he went abroad.

Never took himself too seriously which I really liked about him.

Got hired for a new job that I start next week. Been over 2 years since I worked full-time, so I'm excited and a bit anxious.

Funny thing is I got the job by frequenting this pub for the last couple years and the guy who owns the business across the street gave me the job.

Congratulations!

Should be working right now but for the 2nd time in about a month and a half, I've arrived to find the street in front of my shop cordoned off by police for investigation (presumably stabbing based but obviously they can't say).

Ahhh, the face of someone who doesn't like Clubcards

It's a pretty face though.

Not a patch on your good self, obviously, but still lol

Edit...I should add that I'm not quite sure what's going on with my hair. It looks like I have a very receding hairline, I don't!

Got sent a letter from the DCBL today (debt collectors) for an unpaid parking charge in 2016 for parking outside the markings of the bay.

I ignored it at the time (think that was the general advice i'd got) because it was a private PCN.

It threatens legal action if I don't pay the £160 within 14 days.

Any advice on what to do about this? Not sure whether it will amount to nothing or is something more serious.

I'm pretty sure the debt will be statute barred after 6 years, which in my case will be July next year.

Tell them to they need to pursue the person that parked it there and you are/were merely the keeper of the vehicle not the offender.

If they ask you for proof, claim that you no longer have records because of the time elapsed and have never received contact previously.

I’d guess they have a weak case given the time gone so just play for more time.

Got approached by old employer from a few years ago and, as I'm not desperate to move, I bumped up my current salary to see if they'd baulk. They've now been in touch and offered the position on that basis, but I'm concerned that, were I to accept, my P45/reference will show the truth and it'll all blow up in my stupid face. Jeremy Usbourne style.

If they ask to see your salary from the current company just say you earn £ extra from other business interests. I think you're over-worrying.

I’ve done this countless times. The P45 will go to someone in accounting, the person offering the job will not suspect he has been grifter and therefore will not seek.

It will be fine, only problem I see, is did you lie enough? Could you have got more?

If they've offered what he asked without even a counter offer then they are either really bad negotiators or got a good deal.

Cheers, chaps. I did assume I may be thinking too much into it, I also had the initial conversation over the phone so I guess I could always say I thought the question was 'what salary are you after' as opposed to 'what salary are you on'.

When I last worked there I was an assistant and my boss at the time mentioned a couple of times that the only reason she left her previous firm was because the offer was significantly better. I got the impression it was a Seth Johnson to Leeds type scenario!

I'm awful when it comes to negotiating on anything like that, I'm fine when it's on a client's behalf but not for me. Something that I definitely wish I was more confident with.
