My kids currently walking round the house in t-shirts and with no socks on, moaning that they’re cold and want the heating on.

Send them to school instead.

I've become a lot more tolerant to this since we moved to Spain, the noisiest country in the world! It's common over here and tbh I quite like sitting outside most of the year here listening to the sounds of people enjoying themselves. I suppose it depends how loud and intrusive it is, but yeah, I don't mind it.

The noise of the city would crescendo from Thursday and over the weekend with salsa weeping out of Cali’s every pore. It’s was joyous.

…But someone in the UK whips out a phone and starts playing Duo Lippy or whatever her bloody name is and I’m set to punt their mobile into the nearest bit of oncoming traffic.

I think this is mainly because I didn’t passionately hate every single Colombian.

Happens all the time, winds me up. I don't use public transport at all but there was one exception when I needed to use a bus a year or 2 ago where I had to listen to someones tinny phone playing their shit music. I can't even have a song as my ringtone because I feel daft when it rings.

It's as bad as people holding their phone at face height on loudspeaker and shouting back down it. I don't want to hear your fcuking conversation.

My friend always rings me and puts me on loudspeaker, I can hardly hear him and I ask am I on loudspeaker? And as soon as he replies with a yes a put it down. I don't know who's listening his end. I treat all phone calls private.

I was sitting in my GP's waiting room last Friday and their was a guy texting but to make it worse it clicked every time he typed and it was loud. The room was quiet and my head was pounding, it was irritating the shit out of me. 2 mins later his phone rang so loud. He decided to answer it and had a full blown conversation like he was in his own living room. I always put mine on silent and if it rings I will not answer it.

Was this person abnormal?

When I had a Nokia 3210 about 15 years ago, it was all the rage to program ringtones.

Ever since the invention of the iPhone, I’d assumed everyone kept their phone in silent mode.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on playing music in a public place? The beach, a quiet picnic area, anywhere else where the area is to be enjoyed by all?

It grinds my gears every year at this time of the year when we spend more time outside.

Is it just me being a cranky old man? Do you do it? Would you? Does it bother you?
I’m really interested in the thoughts of others on this topic. From people I’ve spoken to personally I’ve had a mixed bag of responses, with in general the younger people are the less of an issue they have with it.

Can't believe more people aren't using the proper technical term for it: "sodcasting".

It wasn't music, but a lad of about 16/17 was watching stuff on his phone without headphones waiting in the barbers the other day and that is not a big space and it just seemed weird. Was everybody too self conscious and lacking in confidence to say anything? Of course!

I'm not that bothered myself as I've always got my earbuds with me so I can drown them out.

Always fascinated behind the motivations behind stuff like this though. Probably all sorts of reasons but I expect it's as simple as: did it once, didn't get punched in the face or shouted at - therefore doing this is OK

This whole justice comes swift because of a tv drama series about it grinds my gears.

It's a sodding disgrace that it's taken this long and instead of talking about stripping the people responsible of honours we should be talking about slamming them in jail.

People lost lives and livelihoods over this mess.

I'm not a gambling man but I would wager a not inconsiderate amount, that no one responsible will actually go to jail over this.

They should, but won't.

I listened to a podcast on the whole debacle a few years ago, and was shocked at the time, not that IT systems go wrong, but that the response to finding numerous apparent shortfalls was to blame the postmasters.  How convinced do you have to before this even happens that you are being scammed to take that approach?  I am sure there was a longstanding belief that they had a problem with theft, that the new system was supposed to detect it, and then so when it apparently did so they were delighted to be able to prosecute and ignored all and any evidence to the contrary.  I also wonder how many hundreds more just quietly filled the gap with their own funds to avoid the scandal.  Is there criminal activity?  I would think so in the later cover ups, but the initial problem is if nothing else a lesson in confirmation bias.

If they were in court stating that the IT system was not capable of error at a point when it can be proven they knew that it was then I agree that would be contempt of court.

People who lack basic manners.

For example, had offered someone a seat on the underground earlier and they said "Why, do you think I look disabled or old?".

Absolutely more context needed to this statement. Offering a seat on the tube is often considered a faux pas. Like automatically offering someone the OAP rate, to try to be kind. People take offence and for a reason

Wow, I can’t believe anyone would take offence at being offered a seat on a crowded train.

I almost always give mine up for people, as I am happy to stand for the short journeys on public transport I take.
Never had anyone complain, I don’t get why anyone would take offence.

WiFi.

I mean, it's amazing technology and I have literally no idea of the science behind it but bloody hell it feels like a lore unto itself sometimes.

Yes, I have had fibre installed today, and have nearly 20 devices to connect to it and a powerline network to configure.

Nearly got it sorted but have given up for today and am now going to bed

Was connecting up a new TV on the weekend and the wonderful Mrs Oz was watching and said... why is that (a nonsensical string) the password??!

I said coz thats the router password we got when we first set up here 7 years ago and if i were to change it now... i honestly dont know how many devices i will need to update, its easier to remember nunckledumpffttoomsh123 and just add new devices. :)

I put in that password (the longest and most nonsensical yet) so many times yesterday I can almost remember it, which will not impress anybody that knows me and the far more straightforward things I'm very capable of forgetting.

If I get this powerline network sorted my sense of self satisfaction will be seen from space.

If anybody knows what would actually need to be copied for a powerline/extender to seamlessly mimic an existing WiFi network, do please shout. It's supposed to be able to copy it itself, but naturally it doesn't, but I CAN get into its settings and change them myself - but to what?

Seats are usually offered to the weak, pregnant or elderly. If you’re not one of these, it’s quite insulting for some randomer on the tube to assume you are. Much like automatically applying the oap rate.

Any type of power lines can either work first time or be a pain in the a.

I've always had my router setup myself though. I change my broadcast SSID to NICKNET (cos my names Nick right...) the gateway address to 192.268.0.1 (what my first ever Netgear router was) and always turn MAC address filtering on too.

The worst thing to do is forget your WiFi router password. Which I've done once or twice and had to factory reset like an idiot.
