Only states it half way down.

I want it emphasised in the headline.

"Pakistani  grooming gang guilty "

Let's get some emphasis on this community and the disproportionately high ratio of these issues they have amongst their men.

I'm replying to the point you made about them being labelled Asian rather than Pakistani, and that actually this article in particular does specify they are Pakistani and doesn't generalise them as Asian.

Aware it has been an issue though where reports have generalised and called them Asian grooming gangs

To be fair I think everyone knows it's Pakistani men mostly involved in this

Yeah WE all know it's mostly Pakistani men, media hesitate to label them though, how long did it take them to state that during the initial findings of what was going on in Rochdale?

Everything to do with HS2. An absolute abomination of a project and a big steaming pile of shite.

Down here in Bucks, the countryside has been ruined, and it's now been well over 10 years of building sites, roadworks, diversions, temporary lights, and endless disruption.

Not to mention the original £35bn cost will end up being over £100bn which is just outrageous.

And then we hear today that the opening has been delayed AGAIN until at least 2033

Total shambles and a national embarrassment.

The Chinese would have had it done in half the time at half the cost.

Yes. Can you imagine if England fans were causing trouble at a match abroad and the press described them as British fans!

The point being that if the specifics are known don't generalise to include others that largely are not involved.

I suspect China suffers less with NIMBYs because people don't want to be sent for re-education, and that means they don't have to bury loads of their railway at massive extra cost and delay, to keep the NIMBYs quiet, and of course they have all of that sweet sweet cheap labour.

If it were up to me, I'd have compulsorily purchased the land for buttons, imprisoned any protestors, knobbled the Judges and chopped the goolies off any contractor found with their hands in the till, and then High Speed Rail would have been built mostly above ground up to Inverness, across to Holyhead and down to Penzance within 7 years.

But I guess people don't want to live in a country like that (ruled by a fatherly dictatorship of the one - me  :P)

Perhaps the UK can find something in between what it has now and the Chinese solution. Perhaps the Korean KTX model?

You made the point about Pakistani grooming gangs being described as Asian. I was using a comparison that the press would never describe English football hooligans as general as British

Yes but think of the benefits. Londoners will get to Birmingham 10 minutes quicker.

The actual benefits are a large increase in capacity on the lines, particularly for freight trains.

The high speed part was thought to resonate with the public better when the reality is everyone just takes the mick over the 7 minutes saved from Birmingham.

Yup, anything that puts fewer lorries (or at least reduces the increase) on the roads works for me.

We do bits with quarries and the freight lines are full.

They get offered 1 slot a week if they are lucky to get their product out. We actually use our railway a lot more than many people realise for both passenger and freight which is why they get away with their pricing.

And for local journeys, massive increase in capacity.  And now they are going to reduce the speed anyway.  Rubbish comms.

Half the time I agree but half the cost is daft, of course it would be half the cost - given the cost of labour and materials in that part of the world.

Agree on your point, complete waste of money - alongside the pathetic red tape with planning we have in this country -  there was millions and millions spent on a bat tunnel or something, I saw an article on it.

I walked out the house this morning to find a McDonald's milkshake container and contents spilled all over the floor on the pavement.

I don't know what goes through people's minds tbh. Messy pricks.

I hate all this mindless behaviour. You don't have to go far to find examples of gormless idiots and detritus they leave behind.

Walked past a caged football pitch the other morning, litter piled up all along the sides and corners. There are three empty bins 30 seconds away from the pitch.

Exactly this. These morons see it as a sign of weakness to dispose of their rubbish properly. No excuse for it

Increase in litter on the streets is probably the biggest aesthetic change to urban Britain I've seen in my life. I live in a supposedly nice part of London and there is an almost unbroken chain of cartons, cans, wrappers and takeaway boxes on the curb down the whole street. It's really got much worse in the last 3-4 years. It's much worse now than Sofia when I lived there, outside the gypsy ghettos, which is saying something.

On top of this, complaining about anti social behaviour in modern Britain is seen as a reactionary position. My friends will bemoan litter in the streets, shoplifting, phone snatching, loutish behaviour etc, but they'll always start with "I don't want to sound like a Tory but...". A sorry state of affairs!

Agreed. I grew up on a council estate in the 60s and the vast majority of people took a pride in their surroundings and this was instilled in the kids. Somehow this care and attitude has been forgotten
