Stringer's Twitter :"Leicester City boss Sven Goran Eriksson is considering a place in squad for Aleksandar Tunchev ahead of Friday's trip to face Forest"

That would be great news if true. If he can replicate his form before the injury that can only be good for us.

I'm expecting him to play some part against Ipswich at the very least.

any news on a contract extension being offered, I'd hope for at least another year to see if he can stay fit

Fantastic news.

Must be tough being out for such a long time, especially seeing as we've had a reasonable amount of success over his injury period (bar the first few games this season of course).

On the flip side, it sounds like he won't be according to the mercury;

Leicester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson is toying with the idea of a dramatic recall for Aleksandar Tunchev.

The Bulgarian international, out of the first team for 18 months through injury, is in Eriksson's thoughts as he bids to solve City's defensive problems.

And the City boss said if he thought throwing Tunchev back into the Championship fray would help, he would do it.

Eriksson has been alarmed at how easily his side has conceded goals this season and admits the lack of an experienced centre-back such as Tunchev has been a contributing factor.

He has seen his defensive options reduced further this week after Ivory Coast international Sol Bamba injured his hamstring at Reading and is unlikely to feature again this season.

However, Eriksson also confessed it may not be worth the gamble as he believes it would not be in Tunchev's best interests.

"If I knew it would make the situation better I would do it tomorrow," said Eriksson.

"He is getting closer and closer. He is training on a regular basis. I don't think he will be ready to face Forest on Friday, but it is early so we will see on Thursday.

"But I am not sure we would give him a fair chance. I don't think he is far away but he hasn't played for such a long time.

"It is not that easy coming in at the end of the season, and he has only played five or six reserve games.

"I think he would be better off having a pre-season and I don't think it is fair. I don't think he expects to play at all."

Eriksson admitted it was a blow to lose Bamba, who has been an ever-present at the heart of City's defence since making his debut against Manchester City in the FA Cup in January. Bamba has chipped in with three goals and become a favourite with the City fans, but Eriksson said they still had options, and regardless of who he selects, the whole team needed to take responsibility for cutting out the mistakes.

"Sol is out for at least a couple of weeks, maybe more, and the season could almost be over for him unfortunately," said Eriksson. "But we have Ben Mee, Jeffrey Bruma and Miguel Vitor, and we will decide which combination to go with on Friday.

"We have to add something to our game. You can't let people shoot when they are in the penalty box, like we did for the first goal last Saturday. It is not as if he is free. We have all the bodies we should have behind the ball.

"We also can't let someone run down the left side and just cross the ball, as they did for the third goal. And when the ball comes in we are second. That is not how we should defend.

"Conceding soft goals has been our big problem all season."

I don't think he will play against Forest or Watford but I would guess he will get a run out against Donny and/or Ipswich especially if we are out of the play off hunt.

Fook yeah!

Unfortunately I can only imagine things going wrong for him. Will be absolutely gutted if it relapses. Hope he only makes a sub appearance or two and spends the summer strengthening it.

I think he'll be sub as we can't have both mee and bruma in the match day squad.

I think you've summed it up - Tunch WILL have to be in the SQUAD, because there are no other centre back options. I guess Bruno will also be in the squad - though I would prefer him to begin at left back in place of PVA. I HOPE Vitor and Mee start in the centre - Bruma is a disaster ! How much credence to people attach to the rumour that we agreed with Chelsea at the start of his loan, that Bruma will play every match, unless injured ?

Bit OTT

None, otherwise what's the point in agreeing with them that the more he plays the lower the loan fee will be.

May as well play him all the time when our playoff chances finally die so that we can save the cash for next year.

Definitely shouldn't play against Forest. It is a huge game where we'll need players to put their bodies on the line. He won't be able to do that nor would he want to I imagine. Save him for when we are mathematically out of the running for play offs.

OMG TUNCHEV. JIZZ OVER-REACTION.

Seriously. Tunchev and Mee at the heart of defence.

that would be too unbalanced to the left as both are left sided

Finally news on the Bulgarian breaks! I often remember his mesmerising performance against MK Dons in League One's curtain raiser at the Walkers in August 2008 when he looked a cut above everyone else on the pitch and I thought "we're going to stroll this league with him in the heart of our defence". It is somewhat ironic that he then got crocked straight after that yet we still strolled the league!! - and then he has never since played again........that is until against Forest this Friday perhaps, all this time later?! Let's hope that if Sven decides to leave him out in the cold for a while longer (possibly wanting to until next season) that a certain N. Pearson doesn't come in for him (a la M.Fryatt!), being as it is he who signed Tunchev in the first place.

The Mercury report on the story was woefully inaccurate with it's "18 months out" tag for Tunchev - more like 30 months plus!

he made a comeback in september 09 only to then suffer a recurrence of the injury so it's been 18 months since he last played.
