Rusko187 Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Just give them what they want and be done with it... We saved ourselves some cash by not buying Mackail Smith but if Maynards the real target let's not pussy foot around and get him on board!
Sniffer-Clarke Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Im sure we would be able to get Billy Sharp for less than £5m.
Ric Flair Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 £5 million is a shit load of wedge for Maynard and i'm not convinced he's worth it, however if he came and scores 20+ league goals next season and we get promoted then his value will be double what we id for him in an instant. Cameron jerome is on the verge of signing for Stoke for about £8 million and he's never been lethal at any level bar one decent season at Cardiff. It's big risk though as he could just as easily get injured again and we've blown a shocking amount of money on him. I trust Sven.
Happy Fox Posted 7 July 2011 Author Posted 7 July 2011 Itkagent1962 ... @ @13thoughts 5 million would be impossible to turn down for any championship club. Balls in #LCFC court now
artursteppe Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Im sure we would be able to get Billy Sharp for less than £5m. WHO???????
bald reynard Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Im sure we would be able to get Billy Sharp for less than £5m. It's strange that no one seems to be making any moves for Sharp - he's got a great goal-scoring record in this Division (apart from his unhappy couple of years at the Blades). He won't cost as much as Maynard (and scored more goals last season) - I reckon we could get him for less than £3m (Donny would snap our hand off for that - they're desperate for money in to buy) - I think he only has a year left on his contract.
Callabinho Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 "we don't want to upset the fans by selling him" "Bristol May be tempted by £5 million", Odd to put that, I maybe wrong but that translates to me as "if he leaves then it is his decision, so don't blame us" "if he wants to leave then we want at least £5 million for him".
thybluefox Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 £5millions is a massive risk, no two ways about it. But, I can't honestly see who we could get that's better for less cash. Can't say I rate Billy Sharp that much, Yakubu splits the fans, with some people questioning his work rate and performance against stronger teams. Part of me wants them to just get him and settle all this.
ROB-THE-BLUE Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 £5m IS too much for Maynard.... ...but in the grand scheme of things, if you consider that in Nugent and Danns we probably got £5m worth of players for nothing, so if we do get Maynard and you look at the overall spending and what we've got for it then I think we should be pretty happy!
jock2612 Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 5 Million is over priced.I think the only reason why he has not put pen to paper on a new deal is that he wants a Prem Club to show interest.Lets move on and look at others such as Billy Sharp,we know he was allowed to speak to Southampton who had offered 3.25 Mil.He stated he was looking for Prem football .Sven can show him that we have a realistic chance THIS season.Could also try a speculative bid for Cox from WBA you never Know!!!!

I still think he's staying with us but then I would, It would take more then 5 mil me thinks we are one of the few clubs (yourself included) that are in a postion to turn down bids like that any don't expect anything to happen now until we are back from the training camp (end of next week I think) Its set to drag on yet

surrifox Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 perhaps we could get someone to hack NM's phone to see whether he is likely to sign a contract extension with BC- this would strengthen our negotiating position - now let's see how would we go about that.....?
yorkie1999 Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 Stupid money for a striker whos only had one decent season, wba only paid 2million for odemwingie and he scored 15 goals in the prem in half a season!!
Babylon Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 perhaps we could get someone to hack NM's phone to see whether he is likely to sign a contract extension with BC- this would strengthen our negotiating position - now let's see how would we go about that.....? I've just hacked the voice mail... the messages were as follows. "Hi Nicky, it's your Chairman. Please sign the contract Nicky, please, go on Nicky please, I promise i'll sell you to a premier league club in the summer for £25m because that's what you're worth. "Wellllllllllllll, hello. This is Sven. Think of the women I can get you Nicky, just think of them". "Well, hello. It's Sven again... have you thought of the women yet?"

Ross_Spencer Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/story-12898958-detail/story.html Leicester City will reassess their pursuit of Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard after having two bids rejected within 24 hours. The Mercury understands City had an initial bid rejected by the Robins two weeks ago, believed to be just over £2million. Nicky Maynard .They submitted a second bid on Tuesday night which would have totalled £3m with add-ons, but Bristol again said no. City returned with a third bid, believed to total £4m, yesterday morning, which was again turned down by their Championship rivals who insist they are not willing to sell. Maynard, below, has only a year left on his contract and, if he refuses to sign a new deal, he will be able to walk away from Ashton Gate for nothing next summer. However, Bristol chairman Colin Sexstone is still hopeful the 24-year-old will sign a new deal. An offer is on the table but Maynard is yet to sign it. "Once again we have made clear our position," said Sexstone. "We do not wish to sell Nicky, especially to a rival club in our division. "Talks continue with Nicky and his representatives with regards to a new contract." It remains to be seen whether City will return with a fourth bid, but their persistence so far demonstrates that Maynard is considered their major transfer target now. City stepped up their attempts to sign Maynard after their other striking target, Craig Mackail-Smith, signed for Brighton & Hove Albion earlier this week. Maynard was City's preferred target even before Mackail-Smith opted for the Seagulls, but they may now divert their attention to other options. The capture of David Nugent this week on a three-year contract has bolstered City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson's attacking options, but he is also keen to recruit a 20-goals-a-season striker. Meanwhile, South Africa defender Tsepo Masilela will join up with City on their tour of Sweden this weekend, according to the player's agent. Mike Makaaab says Masilela has agreed a year-long loan from Israeli champions Maccabi Haifa and will have a medical on Monday. "Tsepo will be off to Sweden to meet his new team on Sunday and will do his medicals the next day," Makaab told African magazine Kick-Off. "If everything goes well, he will then fly to South Africa so we can complete his application for the work permit in the UK. "Then, hopefully, he will be able to join up with the rest of the squad for pre-season training, but I don't see any problems." If City confirm a deal has been struck, Masilela will become Eriksson's fifth summer signing following the arrival at the King Power Stadium of Kasper Schmeichel, Sean St Ledger, Neil Danns and David Nugent.
manfromuncles Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 £5 mill for Maynard seems a little steep but obviously Sven wants him. I also wouldn't be too surprised if King, Wellens and Gallagher were on £15k+ a week. Those 3 players were being sought after by Premiership clubs and I would imagine the club wanted to tie them to new contracts on good wages. That said, I have no idea what kind of salary these guys are on so I'm purely speculating. If we do manage to land Maynard and Mills, what would be your preferred starting line-up and formation? Lets assume everyone is fit and able to play. I would go for 4-3-3 with Schmeichel, Masilela, Tunch, Mills, Peltier, Wellens, King, Danns, Nugent, Maynard, Gallagher. I know this is extremely attacking but who needs defence when that line-up will rip apart most defences and have them chasing shadows.
Leicfox Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 I reckon this will be sorted by tomorrow as both teams fly out on tours and all parties will want to try and resolve the issue before they fly out. Will he be on a plane heading to Sweden or the one to Spain? I personally think he'll stay with Bristol City until January, although if we go back in today with a bid nearing £5million and it gets rejected again we could see Maynard bang in a transfer request which I think he's yet to do and turn things on it's head again. It's a hard one to call, but very exciting.
Stevosevic Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 F**k it, let's give them the £5 million. He's probably only worth £3million, but if Sven thinks he is that important to the team for next season, and the Thais have as much money as reported, it's a small price to pay. (I hope)
manfromuncles Posted 7 July 2011 Posted 7 July 2011 http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/story-12898958-detail/story.html LM seem to have forgotten Lee Peltier making a fifth signing already.
