Nicky Maynard

I was hoping he was gonna hear of our interest and become a rebel. But to be fair to the lad, he's been a model professional and has kept quiet! The sh*t!!

Hopefully NM does sign and become the goal scoring messiah that we all hope & pray for. If he doesn't sign, everyone else linked would seem like a let down (particularly after 100pages+ on FT); including Yakubu. Fingers crossed for a postive outcome soon

No its not our money, it's our club that we love

Would it not improve our club by investing in players such as Maynards quality who are Stil young and could make the step up if we got promoted rather then 3m on CMS , as long as they've got the money i don't care if they spend 5m on a player which will improve the team long term

£5 million is far too much, I'd mutch rather see that kind of money spent on Yakubu.

He doesn't want to play at this level tho

I think the £5mil bid that is being speculated is too much, but if the money is there and Sven wants this lad then we may as well go for it.

If he bags 20-25 goals and we get promoted then it will look like a bargain. Given that we're going all-out for promotion this year, it's worth the gamble.

Don't you think it would be nice to see Vassell, Nugent, Danns, Peltier, Masilea, King, Wellens and Gallagher running around Maynard creating a lot of space and a lot of goals. I like The Yak but he's already established him as a PL striker, Maynard hasn't.... yet. :D

How much does Yakubu cost? Have someone reliable numbers?

Most of the current first teamers i.e king, wellens, galley etc that signed new contracts recently will be touching £25,000 a week so whats your point?leicester have always paid good wages you must find it strange yes?Is it the fact that your average player is on around £5,000 a week? Hence maynard stalling on his contract!!!!

I don't know what the average wage of our squad is and I'm not going to make bold statements to pretend that I do.

If Wellens etc are on half of what you say that world of football has gone mad

Ignore him, not in a million bloody years are they on 25k a week.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, and I'm certainly not trawling through 90+ pages to find out, but the thing that strikes me most about this deal is that Bristol made it public knowledge, a point that the Bristol fans seem to be missing.

The only reason they would do this is to tempt other clubs to put in offers, hopefully a premier league club, and now it looks as though it may backfire on them. They probably thought that if they made our 2 million bid public it would spark interest but it didn't. So we tried again, and again nothing. We are the only ones interested and it could see Bristol City losing out either way. After their owner and/or chairman has stated that they will not sell to a championship club either

They finally give in and accept our bid, making them look rather silly

or

They carry on being stubborn, dig their heels in and Maynard doesn't leave this summer. But in all of this Maynard realises maybe his dream of signing for a premier league club isn't going to happen. Maybe he needs to prove himself by helping a club in to the premier league and proving himself that way. He decides he won't sign a contract at Bristol just yet and see if this dream is to be realised around January time. If Bristol are performing well he may take the risk with them and sign, if not he could look at others, hopefully us, being competitive near the top. This has him wondering what to do, he may run down his contract in the hope that we, or others, come in again for him next year. This way Bristol either bite the bullet and accept a much smaller fee in January or nothing next year.

Of course it all if's and but's, but if I were him it's what I'd do. And I know I'm a little biased here, but if I were the owner at Bristol, it's what I'd be thinking about too.

£5million

I wouldnt mind if it was for someone proven, e.g. dead cert 20-25 goals a season but with Maynard I'm totally unsure whether he'll be able to do this.

Who exactly is a dead cert 20-25 goals a season for £5m?

i cant lie, i'm not that au fait with european football, but there HAS to be better options for £5M in the italian/spanish/german leagues etc, than nicky maynard? surely theres some decent goalscorer hiding somewhere we could get for 5M or less?

but then you have to hope they adjust to the English game which doesn't always happen
