Matt Mills - SIGNED

Svens made it clear that he and the club are willing to spend big money ONLY as long as Sven and his staff think the player is worth it, and are happy to tell them where to go if not. Look at Yakubu.

Makes me think that Maynard could still have legs.

Also as awesome as Naughton was - £5M for one player is a bit much

To be honest I think we need a solid GK, CB, MF and CF and once you have that you build the rest of your team round that, hence why we go for 4M for Mills but not 5M for Naughton

Mills is never worth 4mill, plus for that money Sven would want him on a long contract so....if we eventually do go up he'd still be with us and wanting 1st team football therefore possibly upsetting him if we sign better centre halfs if we are in the Prem.

I'm just not willing to see us spend 4mill only to have it see a turnaround of a possible 2-3mill loss after 2 years if we end up selling him because he wants 1st team footy - if we go up!

He could equally turn out to be the next Rodger Johnson or Scott Danns :dunno:

He has been the best CB in the Championship for the past two seasons. If you don't think he is worth what we are paying, then I really don't know who will be, Torres for 4 million maybe?

Good job its not up to you then .

If we do go up he'd still be in the team as he's a quality CB

I'm not saying that I don't rate him I just don't think he's worth 4mill....if we could get him for 2.5 with some incentives adding up to a max of 5mill after promotion then I'd snap him up.

As for Torres for 4mill, rather we had Benzema :D;)

I get what your saying mate, but would you let Andy King go for say £2.5 million? No, you'd want at least £6 million, because you know, he can change games in an instant.

If we get Mills, he will more than likely be the best CB in this league again next year, combine that with having Schmeichel in goal, and we won't concede anywhere near as many as we did last season. By not conceding goals, we will get more points and win games (duhhh), so IMO, he is worth £4 million. I do believe someone like Mills will be the difference between a play off place and a top 2 finish.

Maybe I'm just a money grabbing git and hate to spend it.....don't really think that's 100% for sure with the 3 that have dropped down, it's still gonna be a tough season for all top 6 spots IMO

We probably haven't gone for Naughton because Tottenham may want more than £5m for him? I'm still holding out hope for him though  even if its a loan.....

SHITS GOIN DOWN.

Being serious, If we're spending 10 million on one player over the course of 3 years. How much money have these owners got to spend!

If it takes £10m including wages, addons etc. to get him here I'd say it's well worth it. Was superb for Reading last season and would no doubt make us better defensively. Also pops up with a handy goal from time to time.

On Naughton: I guess if no one comes in for him during the summer and he doesn't fit into the Spurs' squad during the season, we could always nick him in January for a lesser fee. I imagine Sven was put off by his price tag and the fact that they could bring in Peltier (also a young, hungry RB) for a substantially smaller sum.

Hmmm its a lot of money for a Championship side to be spending.

Such wanton splurges of cash are making me very excited for the upcoming season...but nervous for our future if it all goes wrong....

Posted

if we get him he will be a sound investment, even if we spend alot of money this year to sign players that will take us up don't forget we'll get 60M+ for one year in the prem.

also Doncaster have a 20% sell on fee not sure if its been mentioned which is why the price is going up!!

I think £4 million for a player of his quality, is a fair price. This is one position where we need the very BEST quality player, to control the defence, and dominate the game.

Posted

Definitely worth the money, our defence was so bad last season and if we have any ambition of going up we need to get defensive players of this quality in the team.

Posted

If we get him ill be over the moon. I rate him as one of the best defenders in this league. But i dont want us paying stupid money....max i wanna see us spend is 3.5/4 million on him. If we spend freely it may not be sustainable in the LR!

Ive brought a pack of primark boxers for the week, this is going to be jizztastic!!

Too right! I'm gonna speculate that we will sign St. Ledger, Mills and Maynard by the end of the week.. Fingers crossed!
