IdiotequeFox Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 You cannot laugh at that. You're dead inside. I'm laughing at how he has the nerve, hilarious.
purpleronnie Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 Imagine if newcastle come 4th in one of the biggest achievements of the season but not qualifying for the Champions League,
ousefox Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 Imagine if newcastle come 4th in one of the biggest achievements of the season but not qualifying for the Champions League, Would this definitely happen? Where's this been said? That would be terrible!
ScouseFox Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 Yep, since the Liverpool 05 winning it and finishing 5th fiasco pretty sure the rule has been that 4 teams per country, holders get automatic entry. So if Chelsea are the holders, that leaves the PL with 3 more places. Newcastle only 3 points off 3rd with a game in hand anyway...
BlueSi13 Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 Breathtaking, absolutely breathtaking. A monumental achievement for Chelsea and one that i doubt many people in the world would have expected. Its also a much needed shot in the arm for the much criticised Premier League this season. What a job Roberto Di Matteo has done there. I expect Chelsea to play with no fear in the final, with the suspensions and injuries, and possibly having to play Bayern Munich on their own pitch, the chances of them taking the trophy will be similar to the odds of them getting through tonight, but what have they got to lose?
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 Gutted for Newcastle if that happens, would be typical!
Haydos Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 Anyone know why they don't have a back up location so that the teams in the final won't be playing at home? Like they've chosen Munich with Bayern probably in the top 4 favourites for the comp. Doesn't really make sense for me.

RonnieTodger Posted 24 April 2012 Posted 24 April 2012 I hate Chelsea, but I actually feel proud of them tonight.

Mack Posted 25 April 2012 Posted 25 April 2012 I sincerely hope the overblown exaggeration of Barcelona and Messi comparisons in recent seasons are put firmly into perspective after this past week. When the chips are down in my opinion Messi goes missing for club and country, and last night Guardiola's tactics were arrogant to the point of incompetence.

The Messi and Barca brigade have gone strangely quiet over the last week
AyewJoking Posted 25 April 2012 Posted 25 April 2012 The venue for the final is decided probably a year or two in advance so although you could possibly get a situation where one of the teams is at home in the final I dont think it is too unfair. I think Bayern would probably be too strong for Chelsea anyway, Madrids style of play would make for a more even game.
Manwell Pablo Posted 25 April 2012 Posted 25 April 2012 Yes. The Messi and Barca brigade have gone strangely quiet over the last week Lets not blow one Champions league tie out of the proportion. Barcelona should have been out of sight by HT at Stamford Bridge and how they didn't score in the second half is anyone's guess. They've missed a pen at the Nou Camp, fair play to Chelsea they've defended fantastically over the two legs but they've had an obsene amount of luc, just one of those things. Messis's scored 62 goals this year and regularly is the differnce in big Champions League and El Classico matches.

I can't take anything away from what Barca have achieved over recent years, or what Messi has, and continues to do. Its just that for me, I'm sick to the back teeth of the constant bumming of them and him by the media and 99% of people. I seriously don't think half of these people are even aware of other football teams etc and just jump on the bandwagon without ever even seeing a football match (ok well maybe not but I hope you catch my drift). Now that Barca have had such a bad week (I'm aware it's just a week, but its a week that HAS ruined their season on two fronts), the majorty of the crusaders who were always gagging on Messi and Barca have gone very, VERY quiet. I heard a statistic (admittedly I havent double checked it), that If you took Messis goals away from Barca, they would be 4th or 5th in the league, and if you took Ronaldos away from Real, they would still be top. Yes that shows what a talent Messi is, but also that perhaps Barca aren't quite the unbeleivable force that many would have you beleive. Just a thought. Though it might just be me, as I'm a nasty, horrible little man that enjoys seeing people fail sometimes mwahahaha.

Barca have had two crunch games this season, both at home, season defining, and have lost both while their talisman player has gone missing. I think that speaks more about them that a 445464-0 thrashing of Getafe.
Finnegan Posted 25 April 2012 Posted 25 April 2012 Barca have had two crunch games this season, both at home, season defining, and have lost both while their talisman player has gone missing. I think that speaks more about them that a 445464-0 thrashing of Getafe. Uhm, and the numerous games and seasons before that in which he's been instrumental to their success? Do you know what I find more boring than people rimming Barca? The handful of people determined to do the complete opposite, just to buck the trend. Oh, yeah, you're so different and original, great. What's wrong with actually putting your hand up and saying "okay, yes, this guy is something special" or "credit where it's due, Barcelona have been phenomenal for the last few seasons." Sure they've had a bad year this year but so what? That happens occasionally. It just seems completely unique to football and I don't quite understand it. You don't get fans of athletics going "that Usain Bolt is completely over-rated, why is everyone bumming him?" When he was suffering a down turn in form a year or so ago and Tyson Gay actually beat him in a race people weren't flocking to use it as vindication that the American has been the better runner all along and trying to force some delusional act of smugness to show everyone that they were the true visionaries all along. Messi, like Bolt, is special. Athletes and sportsmen like them come along once every lifetime and we should just relax and enjoy watching him, be happy that we were here to watch him in his prime. As someone that missed out on Maradona I thoroughly enjoy the chances I get to see this kid's brilliance on show. Why are people working so hard to dismiss him as something over-hyped? Sure, it may occasionally get a little bit cringeworthy hearing media sources run out of superlatives for Guardiola and his players but that's what the media does, it broadcasts hype for the sakes of selling stories. Why let that bother you? It's the same media that tells you England are world beaters every two years or that Gavin Henson actually has a future in sport. It's just fluff, ignore it if it bothers you.
The Doctor Posted 25 April 2012 Posted 25 April 2012 Madrid's reaction: Pepe looks ever so slightly like a creepy rapist there.

I think that speaks more about them that a 445464-0 thrashing of Getafe. Don't get me wrong the media do blow things out of proportion, they do with most big teams, and Im no big fan of Messi or Barcelona but you are talking bob. The one thing I'll give you is that he does go missing for Argentina regularly They've lost the titel to Real over the course of a season not just one game and normally against Real, Messi is sublime, he's won meetings between the pair by himself in the past, I remember a brilliant hat trick in one heavy win last season I think it was, and his Champions League record is fantastic. He's gone missing for a couple of games this week, it happens, I refer you to fact that since his coming of age Barcelona have won La Liga three times back to back with a Copa Del Ray, having made Real look stupid in plenty of Classico matches at the Bernabeau and Nou Camp along the way, Messi superb in many. They've won the Champions League two out of the last three years and are the current Spanish European and World champions. Messi has won more trophies before the age of 25 than most players do in their career, he is the thrid highest scorer in European Cup History at the age of 24 and has played extremly well in many Semi's and Finals, he has the record for the most goals in a La Liga season. I think that speaks more than you judging his whole career on a couple of isolated games.
Corky Posted 25 April 2012 Posted 25 April 2012 Barcelona are not going to be dominant every year. Lest we forget that the year before the treble Manchester United failed to win a trophy, indeed throwing away a comfortable lead in the league. They will bounce back next season.
Simo86 Posted 25 April 2012 Posted 25 April 2012 I love the fact Fabregas moved to Barca cos he wanted to win things Seems he may be a bad omen for clubs
