From the articles I've read, they're all in favour and the decision was unanimous? The games against them don't count towards the league anyway. They're effectively just a friendly team to play on the park when you're bored.

Sorry, by clubs I meant fans really.

Rot-Weiss Essen (the club) put out a humourous statement to the effect that they'd be all in favour as long as the DFB invited teams from the Caribbean to play too.

Ahhh yes, I can fully understand that fans wouldn't be too happy. Haha that wouldn't be a bad away day would it!

I just don't get it how on earth does this deserve a 8 game ban

Sure he wildly kicked the ball twice but he is on the pitch, the game was ongoing so to me hoofing a ball is part of the game. You can argue thay he purposely was trying to kick the ball at someone but i cant see how thats an 8 match ban. Fecking joke. Heck, I wouldn't even give him a red card for that if i were me.  Kicking a ball at someone is a foul in football?  Maybe if you are a pansy or if its done after a whistle is blown etc.

Two players 1 from either team was sent off in the incident, it appears that Oscar on the other hand wasn't even booked by the ref

The league released a statement after the ban was announced

"Oscar offended opposing players in an immoral manner, leading to a massive brawl which has had a very bad influence on the Chinese Super League's reputation,"

You have clubs in the fifth tier moaning mind.

Slightly off topic. It's a bit of weird scenario in the Regionalliga regards the numbers of teams per division. Unlike say Conference North/South here, the boundaries stay fixed. So Sudwest had six teams relegated this season but another Regionalliga got more teams.

Anyone watch much MLS?

I'll watch now and again if I'm not doing anything and there's a game on.

I'm impressed by Jack Harrison, young English lad who plays fo New York City.

Came through the ranks at Man Utd, before moving to the states.

Frank Lampad raved about him and scored again at the weekend.

I try to catch most Toronto FC matches. Bit better now that they're actually good.

I've heard about Harrison, although I haven't seen him play yet this season.

The fallout over oscar's ban continues:

Shanghai SIPG coach Andre Villas-Boas and Brazilian striker Hulk were suspended for two Chinese Super League games on Friday after they protested against the eight-match ban handed to midfielder Oscar over a mass brawl.

Extending what has been a rocky season for China's newly-imported football talent, Villas-Boas was banned for making an "irresponsible comment" on social media, while Hulk was suspended for wearing a T-shirt backing Oscar.

Chinese international Wu Lei was also hit with a two-match ban for wearing a similar T-shirt to Hulk's, which bore the words, 'nothing to do nothing to say', after SIPG's 4-1 defeat of Henan Jianye on Sunday.

The phrase has become a rallying cry after Oscar wore a T-shirt with the same wording before his eight-match ban for triggering an all-in brawl during SIPG's recent game against Guangzhou R&F.

The Chinese Football Association also fined Hulk and Wu 50,000 yuan (£5,670) each, while SIPG received a 100,000 yuan (£11,340) fine and a warning over the controversy.

"Victory is the result every participant pursues but it can never be at the cost of sacrificing football order and disrupting football rules," the Chinese Football Association (CFA) said in a statement.

"Respect the rules, referees, fans, opponents and the game. The CFA will keep strictly punishing all violations of rules and discipline and hope that all clubs, officials and players can maintain order."

The CFA did not say what Villas-Boas's remark was, but after Oscar's ban he wrote on Instagram: "355 career games; 5 years in the English Premier League; 47 appearances for Brazil; 70 goals. ZERO RED CARDS!!! 8 games suspended."

This could lead to stars saying no to china now.......money does talk but I think  they go over there and once they realize how crap it is wish they had stayed in europe.

#OnThisDay in 2001 #Juventus signed Christian Zenoni, Lilian Thuram, Pavel Nedved and Gianluigi Buffon...

16 years later and Gigi is still going strong! Where does he rank in the Old Lady's best-ever signings?

I watch Harrison a lot and I agree; he is outstanding. He's said he'd like to play for USA if given the opportunity, and I'd go as far as to say if he had his green card, he'd be the best young American attacking player besides Pulisic. I don't know about senior international play just yet, but if we're still calling up guys like Gyasi Zardes, maybe that can come sooner rather than later. England's youth set up isn't bad, but the FA should at least be keeping tabs on this kid.

As a primer for anyone unfamiliar with him: he's played his ball both here and England but doesn't yet have US citizenship. He can play on the wings or in the hole, but his preferred spot is on the right wing, where he likes to cut inside on his left foot (his right foot is pretty good for a lefty, too). His first touch is fantastic, and all the more impressive  when considering he plays half his games on Yankee Stadium's cow patch (plus a few others on artificial turf). Decent speed and fitness.

Also, he seems like a really good kid--great attitude and works really hard. It's also kind of cute how his "Mumsi" Deborah is so into watching her son and following the team, and she's well-liked among NYC fans in her own right. Knock on wood, and kids will be kids, but Jack doesn't seem like the kind of young player that would be caught passed out at a casino or Snapchatting himself doing whip-its.

Thanks for the extra info.

It's admirable that after slipping through the net, or not quite making it at an academy over here, he's tried across the pond and it seems to be paying off.

Would love us to take a chance on him, but I think it's difficult negotiating transfers with the MLS?

I guess Man City would have first choice anyway.

I'll definitely be keeping an eye on him.
