Greg2607 Posted 14 May 2012 Posted 14 May 2012 Heskey has scored 111 goals in his premier league career. that is more than ryan giggs. would people scoff at the idea of signing him for 1 season?

Ryan Giggs is a midfielder in fairness so don't understand the comparison. I'd take Heskey tho, great target man.
Socks Posted 14 May 2012 Posted 14 May 2012 dont you think he maybe a bit too old though ? less pace the championship aint an over 30's league u know
Happy Fox Posted 14 May 2012 Posted 14 May 2012 It is up to NP to decide, I think he would be great value in this division no I don't expect him to score a bagful of goals but his hold up play could help the other strikers in the team score goals win win.
leicesterlad1989 Posted 14 May 2012 Posted 14 May 2012 Everyone who has ever partnered him has said how much they appreciate his link-up. I think providing he doesn't demand such a high wage then its a worth while gamble. He loves the club and would certainly give his all. He would also give us a plan b if we suddenly need to turn to route one football.

If we suddenly need to turn to route one football.".... this i Nigel Pearson team! There is no `suddenly` about it!

Socks Posted 14 May 2012 Posted 14 May 2012 dont moan then when next season all we do is punt it upto him and he has it for about 2 secs and gets tackled....
leicesterlad1989 Posted 14 May 2012 Posted 14 May 2012 dont moan then when next season all we do is punt it upto him and he has it for about 2 secs and gets tackled.... Don't moan? Of course we will moan, thats what we do best. If he started scoring goals for fun we would moan he doesn't hold the ball up enough... But back to reality, he's under appreciated by a lot of football fans, he does a lot for the team and im sure would chip in with a few goals. He's more mobile than Howard ever has been, and he did a decent job over the last few year. Play to his strengths and he will scare the sh*t out of the opposition. Seriously tho, as much as we know Heskey would welcome a move here, there is nothing to suggest that Pearson would even want him. Judging some of the rumoured signings so far, he may perhaps looks for a younger target man.
Socks Posted 14 May 2012 Posted 14 May 2012 maybe come off the bench for the last ten minutes when we are 3-1 down at home to the bottom of the league club (hopefully forest)
svensson Posted 14 May 2012 Posted 14 May 2012 maybe come off the bench for the last ten minutes when we are 3-1 down at home to the bottom of the league club (hopefully forest) Can you name a young target man? In all of league football that is a possibility? What about the vast international/premiership experience heskey would bring to the dressing room. The young strikers in the squad would be in awe. I think the problem you have is your opinions are based on MOTD and the odd sky game, I live in birmingham and have been to Villa park a few times to watch him play and he was ok, he was no Henry but would be more than capable for 60 mins at this level, he is 33, hardly ancient! P.S He is the only striker in prem history to play over 500 games.

I agree with this. Seen him a couple of times this season and both times he actually looked quite a handful.

flanimal Posted 16 May 2012 Posted 16 May 2012 I think Heskey could be a good signing. Let's remember it wasn't long ago he was a first choice partner for England, he'd played with some of the best footballers of the last 10 years, and he may have only scored one goal all season but he was playing in probably the worst Aston Villa team in years. He's still got it in him, and I honestly think he could score 10 goals at Championship, and probably create 10 assists. If he isn't demanding silly money, I'd bring him back. He won't tarnish the nostalgia.

ousefox Posted 16 May 2012 Posted 16 May 2012 Unfortunately i can't see him coming. Seems like little interest from our side and with Vardy coming tomorrow we'll have Beckford Nugent Vardy Waghorn Schlupp Vassell- maybe Hopper- if he's ready Unless we shift Vassell and one of the players above him it'd be unlikely IMO

With maybe Hopper and Pantaiou? going out on loan. Leaving us with 4 Nugent , Vardy , Waghorn , Schlupp
bluesbrothers Posted 16 May 2012 Posted 16 May 2012 Can you name a young target man? In all of league football that is a possibility? The amount of times people have been ignoring me shouting Gary Madine's name from the proverbial rooftops is unreal. He's the perfect fit - a mobile target man who scores goals and is only 21. Throw our dubious links to Shef Wed with Mandaric the chair there, and I reckon he could end up here - and I'd rather have him anyday. That said, I agree with the sentiment that Heskey is criminally under-rated. Goalscoring is not everything for a forward, his hold up play and service for other strikers is great. I just think Madine could have a great future with us.
AKCJ Posted 16 May 2012 Posted 16 May 2012 Gaaaary Madine, goalll machineeee I'd love it if we signed him. Proper Nigel Pearson player who I think will do a 'Grant Holt' or a 'Rickie Lambert'. Plus he's younger than both of those.
thybluefox Posted 16 May 2012 Posted 16 May 2012 Was chatting to a Villa fan at work about our Emile and he was actually sad he'd gone. Said he was never going to do well for Villa because if the piss poor system they played last season. He said he'd be more than capable of doing a job for us, and I've got to agree with him.
