ozleicester Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 If Steve Howard "did a job" for us this year, (and yes i dispute that he did, but NP seemed to think he did), then, Heskey is certainly capable of doing a better job. Its not even the end of the season yet, so we have NO IDEA what next years squad will look like, if it contains Heskey as a back up then i wouldnt be complaining.
Charl91 Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 Seriously though, you know what will happen if he comes back, he'll be shit and we'll be shit and some fans will forget what he's done for us in the past. I don't think it's a good idea. This is what I'm worried about. Some people say that if you don't want Heskey back, then you are not a proper LCFC fan, but those people will probably be the same ones who will boo him if he comes back and doesn't perform well. Heskey was great for us, let's not ruin that memory. He isn't the same player anymore.
MrSpaM Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 Who here would actually complain about Heskey being on the bench????... Nobody???... Please stop moaning then
Ozwin Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 Omg can`t actually believe that people want him back, so frustrating! that`s half the problem with our club living in the past, you can use Carew as an example he went to west ham from villa and he was shocking this season! But now everyone is gonna jump on this band wagon and predict heskey will tear this league apart! pleaseee! John Carew has looked a class above everytime I've seen him, I had mates who went to Upton Park that said he was an absolute monster too. I don't know what's going on there at West Ham but I'd take him in a heartbeat.
Dan Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 Speaking from a footballing point of view I think he's completely past it and he wouldn't offer us much at all. However, seeing his full name (minus the William) in the title did make me wee a little bit. If he even scored one scruffy goal it would be absolutely amazing. Seriously though, you know what will happen if he comes back, he'll be shit and we'll be shit and some fans will forget what he's done for us in the past. I don't think it's a good idea. I've always hated the way the media and football fans around the country talk about him, and I'm not just talking about Mock the Week and stuff like that, even Match Of The Day have been taking the piss in the last couple of years, and alluding to his poor goalscoring record at every opportunity. But he isn't the player he was, and I do like that really, only we and Liverpool fans can truly appreciate what a good player he was at one point. He'll always be a hero here and I'd like to leave it at that. It's a real shame the reputation he has, really. It just proves the narrow-mindedness and bandwagonning fans we have in this country.
J.Lisemore Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 If Pearson can sign Adebola for Hull, then surely he would be interested in Heskey...seeing as we also need a new 'target man'.
foxes2011 Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 Love to have Heskey as an option on the bench i think hes probley got a couple of seasons left in him to come on if we need a goal. We have just released Howard who probley has a year on him but also was very similar and alot cheaper but i think Heskeys at a highler level than Howard was. Hes passionate about the club hed give his best and it would be like a home coming. Like the idea of him maybe becoming a coach here kinda like how Chris Powell was towards the end of his career. at the minuite we only have Beckford, Nugent, Vassel, Waghorn, Shluup and Hooper as options up front. >Like to see two or three striking opitions brought in maybe Heskey, Keogh, and Kane to freshen our attack up and give us options. >like to see Schluup and Hopper go out on loan for a couple of years to gain experience in the lower leagues. >Beckford might be sold to reduce wage bill (plus imo he hasnt done well) along with others Vassel might also but we need replacements.
pSinatra Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 I'm 50/50 about the possibility of him signing. As much as I loved him & would love to see him play here again...............the other half of me is filled with absolute dread
EnderbyFox Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 As much as I love Heskey for what he has done for the club in the past, a huge part of me thinks he will be a flop and lose his legend status here. I'd much prefer someone like Harry Kane.
Tielemans63 Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 Heart says 'yes' head says 'he's way past it'. Not sure on this one tbh.
Daveaway Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 Yes he did Leicester a great service, he could not get in the Villa team, which is a poor team, one goal since Aug, injuries, and he be wanting a big wage. I rather take a punt on someone like Fuller from Stoke, if we need that target man. Oh the last game for Villa against Spur he went off injured say no more. I think if he came would he manage 20 games in the Championship
Christoph Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 The guy has scored ONCE in the premier league this season? I dunno if i'm that excited tbh. Unless he comes on low wages I think i'd rather go for someone else.
Mark_w Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 The guy has scored ONCE in the premier league this season? I dunno if i'm that excited tbh. Unless he comes on low wages I think i'd rather go for someone else. Emile Heskey wouldn't be brought to score tons of goals, he'll be there to hold the ball up, help Nugent/Waghorn/Vardy and chip in with a few goals. Nugent had a pretty poor Premier League record and look how good he has been.

This Deffo more capable than Howard as a target man If he wages were ok (doubt it) then get him in... However would I prefer a younger hungrier target man that is more of a threat goal wise aerially, yes
Guesty Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 The guy has scored ONCE in the premier league this season? I dunno if i'm that excited tbh. Unless he comes on low wages I think i'd rather go for someone else. Villa don't really play to his strengths. They play 1 upfront with 5 midfielders 100 yards behind the forward. Heskey on his own upfront in the prem is not gonna do a good job. Sometimes they stick him on the wing, which he's well past. I think in a 2 man strikeforce he'd do a good job in the championship - wouldn't be amazing but i struggle to see who else we could get for that sort of price. I think more money needs to spent on the midfield - so if we could get him on a free and his wages wern't daft, I'd have him. He'd make quite a bit in shirt sales so cover some of his wages as well.
Out Foxed Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 well his strike partner gabby rates him. that might be because his strike rate makes everyone else look better, but there you go.
artursteppe Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 I can understand 'past it' players being slagged when they come to Leicester just for the pay cheque, but Emile is our boy and would always give everything for his home town club. We all know that all the strikers we have would score more playing alongside a target man. We know that as a team we are full of pussies and some more physicality is badly needed, and yes we know Emile is 34. If we were to get him back i very much doubt if he would start many games. He is definitely at least two leagues above Howard in quality right now!
Happy Fox Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 In this division you need front men who are physical and can batter defenders aerially as well as providing space for the other striker to latch on to through balls Heskey does this job yes he is almost at the end of his career but seriously he could do a job in this division their is an air of skepticism about because if we bring back Heskey he may not be the player he was the first time round but that is to be expected we all know he doesn't score a bag loads of goals, all we need is a striker to hold up the ball and can provide balls for the other striker. Beckford and Nugent can score more goals alongside Heskey imo.
Guest Dirkster the Fox Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 Went with clients to watch Villa v Spurs on Sunday. Bruno was the loan man up front in a side devoid of any adventure or ambition to attack. We all thought he played well. Held the ball up as Bruno can and "if" another Villa player had been within 30 yards of him at any point he'd probably have created even more. He got subbed after a knock just after half time and Villa were even worse. Shocking team. Looked plenty good enough for the championship. Sign him up.
burni Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 would be a good experienced player in this league and would really lift the fans if he came back. From his comments he clearly would like to come back now hes a free agent rather than go somewhere random. Wouldn't cost anything either.... and he would be here because he wants to play for this club. if he was on modest modest wages i think it would be great
Salieri Posted 8 May 2012 Posted 8 May 2012 If we could sign him on a short term contract (one year, two at most) and pay him a sensible wage then I think it would be worth bringing the old boy back. He's clearly beginning to struggle at Prem level (although he has been playing in a shit team) but I think he can more than hack it in this league. It would be fantastic if big Emile could help us back to the Prem next season, he'd be a short term fix, a means to an end, but it would be a great way to end his career.

Also he would provide valuable experience the likes of Schlupp, Hopper this Blyth lad we might be signing who is a target man could learn so much from him it is a win win signing in my eyes. John Percy @John__Percy Personal opinion on Heskey - would be amazed if he goes back to#lcfc. Pearson targeting players under 25 and not one for sentiment It would hardly be a sentimental move he is no Howard, shite he is much better in quality.

Seriously though, I agree with NP's transfer policy, but, it doesn't hurt to throw an old head or two in amongst these up and coming youngsters. I noticed Danny Murphy mentioned in another thread, he'd be a superb signing. It's not all about the long term future, getting out of this division is priority and if a few experienced players can help us achieve that then all well and good.

Totally agree with you we need some old heads and experience in this team the likes of Shaun Derry, Heskey, Murphy are experienced and have the no how to win promotions and silverware in their careers, I think one or two signings like this along with the predominantly younger players could work wonders in this division.
