anyone watch Seven Year Switch on Channel 4?

Couples on the brink go to Thailand to share some time with someone else's partner to 'make or break' their own relationship.

Not the way I'd solve relationship problems by spending time with another person's partner while on holiday lol

I'm guessing that's George, if he's the one from Leicester?

No, Tom who now's lives in York.

Since he's been with his new Mrs, I've not seen much of him, then they moved to York which is where her family are based when they had the little-un, and then he's on this.

He's a great guy though, a big kid who just enjoys life and doesn't give a crap what people think.

I won't ruin the series for you though!

Just been catching up on Hard Sun.

What a bunch of stupid, useless coppers! That no one, at any point, considers making a copy of the flash drive, is just unbelievable. It also operates on the premise that everyone is a coward who won't stand up for themselves and so many contrived set pieces where no one stops to ask, "what if", it makes 24 look like everyday regular security work.

Utter tosh, built on a promising premise.

Watched the last episode of collateral yesterday. Disappointing. I guess they've already written the next series to do with the Politico, his missus and the religious one since they just wasted time in this story. It was all wrapped up so easily and cleanly that I feel I've been cheated. Had promise but failed.

Now started the second season of Marcella - can't remember if I liked the first or not.

Vikings is okay but I find its PCness a bit ridiculous. Skinny women beating up rapers and pilagers . A disabled warrior leader. It just doesn't ring true.

Ugh, really? Are you on the wind up? I should probably check before I start calling you a typical Daily Mail reader. ;)

Lagertha is definitely cast to be beautiful, can't really argue with that, but she was a legendary shieldmaiden (which is in itself a thing in North mythology) and a wife of Ragnar Lodbrok. Her prowess in battle and her bravery are heralded by medieval chroniclers. It's not like at any point she goes all Brienne of Tarth and chucks burly six foot men around the place.

Ivar the Boneless was really one of the Five Sons of Ragnar Lodbrok that conquered large swathes of the British Isles.

Again, sagas comment on his physical disabilities but highlight his intelligence and tactical wisdom.

There definitely are historical inaccuracies in the show - the idea that the Vikings didn't know Britain was even there (season one) is absurd, the way the saxons are portrayed as posh English (when they were culturally basically just Christian Vikings) and the fact they made Rollo (a real Norman ruler) and Ragnar Lodbrok (a semi fictional Robin Hood style legend) brothers is a bit awkward.

But the fact you can overlook all of that and then take exception with the fact a woman and a cripple actually have influence in the story and dismiss it as "PC" when they're two of the more accurate bits of the show vs legend says way more about you than the series tbf.

Unless, yanno, you are on the wind up and then I refer back to my original question and congratulate you on a top bit of ironic trolling. ;)

It's not just Lagertha, it's all the women. The vikings were supposed to have ravaged half of Europe but when they fight amongst themselves you see women beating men. It's not really credible. There was an Ivar the Boneless but nobody knows why he was called that.

I don't remember seeing a woman in the show carry out an unbelievable feat of strength. Its not like a five foot weakling goes and over powers Rollo, in fact there's a pretty brutal moment early on in possibly the first episode where he rapes a woman.

But, like I said, shieldmaidens are not an unknown concept in norse legend where they don't quite share the same Christian misogyny. Likewise in celtic armies, celtic women were considered incredibly fearsome and there were female celtic warriors and leaders, albeit rare.

Where they the majority rank and file of viking armies? No but they weren't in the show either.

As for leaders with disabilities? There's one buried, to great fanfare, about five hundred metres for where I'm currently sitting. They crop up throughout history all over the place, when you pass power down through often inbred families it's going to happen.

There are claims of Ivar being crippled in saga.

Absulote genius.

Surprised it has not taken of more than it has after the first series.

Martin Mucklow being wanked off under the table by his sister in law and his mother in law had me in tears! ?

Finally got around to watching this, binge watched the first series and just watched episode 1 of series 2, really enjoying it especially Kerry’s Mum shouting from upstairs.
