Peltier to.............

All of whom gave perfectly adequate cover the season we were in the playoffs.

Does the midfield need improving, Yes. Have we signed players to try and improve it, yes. Marshall, Drinkwater, James, Vardy.

The defending was shocking last year, could they have had more protection? Of course they could, but they were also at fault. Other than Konchesky and Morgan I didn't feel safe with any of the others in the back line.

The player who gave 'perfectly adequate cover' IMO was Wellens who is now a couple of years older and looks like his legs are going.

In addition, didn't Pearson bring in some on loan midfielders? Jay Spearing for example, or am I gettin my years mixed up?

King that season seemed much less injury prone than he is now. He looked fitter and quicker on the back of the League One title.. King now looks a shadow of his former self, beginning under Sven.

Finally, I stated clearly that it's the lack of ability of the players in front of the back five to keep the ball and to defend as a unit that was a major problem last season.

In our play off season we had Stevie Howard and of course, Waghorn, retaining the ball up front, rather than Jermaine letting it bounce away from him.

ie. THAT season we were a better team at defending.

Peltier would have looked far more secure at right back in the play off side... Is my point.

And, with the new signings you've mentioned, may well look more assured this coming season if he stays.

I'm not. i'm saying that even with one of the best defenders in the world we would be fvcked on the right side

We'd be fine with Ramos. We have Ben Marshall on that wing not Gallagher anymore.

The only reason for Peltier looking bad sometimes was because we don't have a right winger so he doesn't get any cover when he goes forward. When he did look good was when Dyer played on the right instead of the left, which left konchesky open and made him look bad. We played Gally on the right wing and because he's not a natural winger he kept drifting into to midfield thereby leaving Peltier exposed. We need a fvcking right winger not a replacement right back because anyone who plays there will look bad even someone like Sergio Ramos.

I saw him out of position so many times, and it had nothing to do with the lack of a winger. At times it didn't help with who was infront, but his positioning needs improving.

And the defence looked as dodgy when they had others like Danns or Bamba in there also. You blaming it all on those further forward is no different to those blaming it on the defence.

So Beckford letting the ball bounce off him causes Peltier to be woefully out of position half the time. Whilst it makes a different to retain the ball, it doesn't suddenly turn everyone to shit.

I would have rated Peltier in my top 3 players from last season so am surprised he is being moved on

The fee in my opinion is also disappointing.

£500k for a RB that performed well in what was an under performing team in cheap in my opinion

He took a step up from League 1 and coped well

Granted positioning I would agree would be his weakness but he was strong and in my opinion always gave 100%

His loss will certainly be a rival's gain wherever he ends up

There seems to much smoke for there not to be a fire so it appears he will soon be off

Wish him all the best and gutted as Im sure his replacement will be if not similar - sub standard

Who do you think he was better than out of Kasper, Konchesky and Nugent?

With hindsight a lot of Sven's purchases seem a little dubious.

more than a little -- when he arrived and lined up the likes of Curtis Davis, Mee,Yakubu and Mcnaughton I had the highest of hopes that he knew exactly what he was doing !

Leeds are getting a very good deal at 300k.

Started very well but was found out a few times towards the end of the season and was at fault for some important goals conceded (even if it wasn't always blindingly obvious that he was at fault there were a fair few where he'd got pulled out of position and a ball to the far post dropped for someone in acres of space to stick it away). But all things considered he's certainly good enough for Championship level, and potentially even a top half of the table Championship side.

He's clearly not leaving for footballing reasons and Pearson has obviously weighed up his value on the pitch and what he's being paid off it. And he's decided that it doesn't equate. That, on behalf of all those off the pitch at the club last year (Sven, Neville), is unforgivable. You could understand us needing to get rid of players that had dropped a league; your Koncheskys, your Beckfords etc. But for a lad who had had a good couple of years in League One at Huddersfield to be sat on a contract that looks so out of proportion with his abilities just twelve months down the line (and after he's had a decent season)... let's hope these Thais have deep pockets.

I thought he signed Naughton?

You had hopes Sven knew what he was doing, I had hopes you knew what you were posting.

Spot on...

Peltier isn't a bad player and would not be one top of my list to sell.

Interesting if we lose Peltier, selling at a loss; meanwhile, Luke O'Neill looks set for a moderately expensive move to Burnley, when he could have continued developing with us and maybe made the grade for no fee. Somehow sums up how we've lost our way over the last 2 seasons.

We will only sell him at a loss because we paid too much for him in the first place. Unproven at this level Sven took a gamble on him and it's not paid off simple as that. He is just not good enough and was a major weak link in the side last season, anyone with a rudimentary knowledge of football could see that and it's clear he does not figure in Pearson's plans for the future. So I hope we can get what we can for him and put it down to just one of those things that happen in football. Good luck to the man and i'm sure he will do a good job for someone at a lower level than we are aspiring to.

Usually agree with mate but can't over Peltier.

I think he's been one of the victims of a simply poor team. Unprotected from the midfield, few options to deliver to when able to get forward.

I still maintain that Peltier, in a physically stronger, more defensively able unit would more than cope at this level.

Crikey, both Michael Morrison and Robbie Nielsen played at right back in Pearson sides that didn't leak goals like we have done this season.

Are you suggesting that either of those two are better footballers than Peltier?

The reason, in my opinion, that they didn't very frequently get sussed out for the average footballers they both are is because they played in teams that just defended better as an organised unit. We simply kept the ball better, starting with the front men, AND had a better pairing of centre backs.

Peltier leaving for a paltry sum will IMO be the second mistake Pearson would have made. The first was not bringing in another striker in the Jan transfer window.

And I'm a Pearson fan!

lol

Still, it's all opinions Flowy.

Peltier's shown nothing to me to prove he's a better right back than Michael Morrison.

Neilson however is a good point. Jesus I forgot about that bloke, liked his attitude but as a footballer he was dreadful.

The funny thing was that Neilson was actually our best player under Sousa lol lol lol

Agree with the main point - it's a team game, including defending, keeping the ball, closing down etc.

The NP play-off team included fewer technically skilled individuals, but achieved more as a team. Better centre backs? Mainly Wayne Brown & Jack Hobbs, wasn't it - and Morrison the year before? Yet they had organisation and commitment. I never thought we'd miss Wayne Brown, the skinhead nutter, but I suspect we did! Morrison had a few stinkers near the end, but was mostly sound (if limited) before then - even Nielsen did OK within his limitations (slow, poor distribution, but decent positioning and stood off to compensate for lack of speed).

Hopefully, with a summer to get more technically gifted players organised and motivated, NP will put out a successfuly team next season...

I think Peltier is better than alot of people are saying. He dipped off in the last few months granted but dont mean he's pants.

Having said that, i like the look of Liam Moore and i think he might be back up this season to De Laet
