Very good appointment

Good appointment if he was going to a side with low expectations and giving him time to build a side.

They want a season of stability and have said from the off they aren't expecting anything to happen straight away, SOD seems like a sound appointment.

I actually think this is a really sensible and good appointment. I'm a bit annoyed how their owners have been so sensible right from the off, when ours weren't. Maybe they have learnt from our mistakes?

UGHHHHH... They are going to play really attractive football now!!!! :(

Don't know what some people are worried about, this guys proved nothing really, yeh Donny punched above their weight for a season or two (and then started to slide back to reality months before he left) but that's hardly the same as mounting a promotion challenge.

Whilst I don't think its a terrible appointment the new owners do look a little daft banging on about getting an iconic name. I can't see them splashing the cash like my Forest mate was saying.

Well, not really. He was only brought in to assist Cotterill for the arse end of the season. Whereupon we'd win one game playing nice football and lose the next by hoying it into the corners for Tudgay to chase. It was exactly like they were taking it in turns.

I'm dead chuffed with this. Aside from McCarthy this is the best outcome as far as I can see. proper football, the players think he's the bee's knees. He had been overachieving for years with what was, lets face it, a shite Donny squad and yet the consistently played more illustrious teams off the park (mostly us).

I think this calls for a suitably dignified victory dance.

Does it? Wasn't the supposed reason McCarthy turned the job down was because the owners wanted to be in charge of player recruitment, contracts etc? I.e they wanted a yes man...in O'Driscoll they might just have it.

It does. The truth of it is, nobody knows why McCarthy didn't fancy it. It could've been anything at all. Length of contract, potential war chest, parking spot. Who knows? If this saga has taught me anything it's that the good people of twitter would rather make something up then admit to not knowing anything.

Also, SOD was instrumental in the loan players we brought in last year, particularly Adlene Guediora (goal of the season winner for two seperate clubs) who ran our midfield (once SC decided passing was better then kicking it at Tudgays head).

But Nigel Adkins was used to relegation battles and building lower sides at Scunthorpe. Their fans would have been happy with 21st in the Championship every season.

He was then handed the Southampton job. A bigger club, bigger fanbase, bigger expectations. He did it.

Exactly, a very similar appointment in my eyes.

I think SOD has a harder job on his hands though. Pardew had already built a decent squad as Southampton, and Adkins was able to add to that and get them playing how he likes in league one before they came back up.

SOD has 4 weeks until the Championship season starts. He hardly has any defenders left, and probably needs to add in other areas as well. 4 weeks might seem long to us fans willing the start of the season on, but it will fly by if you are in SOD's position. We saw last summer how desperate McClaren got as time ran down when it came to signing players.

Yeah, I agree. There is no doubt about it.

I was just making the point that some manager's, who are used to relegation fights, can step up.

Rather have SOD than Roy Keane and a few others. Not saying he is great bit he's under estimated in my opinion. Deserves a 'bigger' job than Donny and was surprised when he went to Crawley.

WTF?! Sean O'Driscoll well thats going to please the forest fans!

Go on our boards. Most are very happy.

God he's better than Sven, Ferguson, Keane or Hoddle!!!
