Leicfox Posted 13 November 2012 Posted 13 November 2012 So what's everyone's thoughts on the Zaha call-up. Does he deserve it on credit or fast tracked despite what Woy says to deter him from choosing the Ivory Coast? Why no call-up for Charlie Austin? Surely it wouldn't have hurt and he is the leading goalscorer in the country at present.
marko Posted 13 November 2012 Posted 13 November 2012 Fast tracked! Whilst the boy has clearly got talent, I think he's a bit overhyped.
Webbo Posted 13 November 2012 Posted 13 November 2012 Cue "club>country, England are crap, I don't care about international football "comments.
Ashley Posted 13 November 2012 Posted 13 November 2012 Zaha has talent however he is over rated I think personally.
Corky Posted 13 November 2012 Posted 13 November 2012 The comments after this game will go the usual one of two ways- 1. We win- it's only a friendly, meaningless, means nothing for a tournament. 2. We draw/ lose- we're not good enough, well behind the top nations, why don't we follow Germany's lead? About the game, giving Zaha a go is good- it could tempt him for the future, along with Sterling.
Happy Fox Posted 13 November 2012 Posted 13 November 2012 I will be watching Braintree v Tranmere Rovers tonight it is the FA Cup far more magical than an international friendly.
Brainy Posted 13 November 2012 Posted 13 November 2012 Yeah I think Zaha has almost been called up from media attention alone. Reminds me of somebody like Scott Sinclair from when he was in the Championship with Swansea, he did well but the majority of his goals were from the penalty spot that season and there were probably better forwards than him like Shane Long and Danny Graham. Probably a little too ignorant to think that Austin's background and history is the reason he hasn't been picked though. I thought Zaha was a striker but he's scored 11 in nearly 100 appearances? Wiki says he's a winger but thats still quite poor.
marko Posted 13 November 2012 Posted 13 November 2012 I will be watching Braintree v Tranmere Rovers tonight it is the FA Cup far more magical than an international friendly. Well today's your lucky day as England are playing tomorrow night, so you're free to watch both!
Leicfox Posted 13 November 2012 Author Posted 13 November 2012 I actually think Tom Ince is a better all round player than Zaha but he's not eligible to play for another country, so.............. Players should be picked on form and ability and not just because they are eligible for another country. If they don't choose to play for England, there will always be another player to step into their boots. That reminds me U21's tonight V Northern Ireland.
LCFC FOX Posted 13 November 2012 Posted 13 November 2012 The reason Zaha has been called up is because Drogba was talking to the Ivory Coast manager to call him up quickly. Now if he gets his 1 cap tomorrow hes free too play whenever. Probably not for another 2/3 seasons
purpleronnie Posted 13 November 2012 Posted 13 November 2012 so how many regulars have been pulled out because they're 'injured'?
ToeKneeHandCock Posted 13 November 2012 Posted 13 November 2012 The reason Zaha has been called up is because Drogba was talking to the Ivory Coast manager to call him up quickly. Now if he gets his 1 cap tomorrow hes free too play whenever. Probably not for another 2/3 seasons It has to be a competitive match to make him ineligible to play for Ivory coast.
kingfox Posted 13 November 2012 Posted 13 November 2012 It's good to see players like Zaha getting a chance, personally I think it is deserved he was very dangerous against us, he tore past Konchesky about 5 times in the first half, Bolasie may have been better that day, but Zaha was still dangerous. These prospects need a chance, and if he plays a good amount of time tomorrow, we will see how good he can be, him and Sterling on the wings could be a real danger. However we really need to bring some strikers through, Rooney and Defoe only seem the main one's, while Sturridge and Welbeck seem to be the only one's coming through, Austin may deserve a chance sooner or later, same as Gary Hooper.
Finnegan Posted 13 November 2012 Posted 13 November 2012 There's not a debate to be had, of course he's just being called up to stop the Ivory Coast poaching him. He's obviously not good enough for England.
Guest Posted 13 November 2012 Posted 13 November 2012 Cue "club>country, England are crap, I don't care about international football "comments. Well, Webbo's neatly summed up all my opinions here. I'll vacate the thread
Corky Posted 13 November 2012 Posted 13 November 2012 Even then it might not work, as he could still represent Ivory Coast.
Super_horns Posted 14 November 2012 Posted 14 November 2012 Even then it might not work, as he could still represent Ivory Coast. That's true...bit like Victor Moses who turned his back on England to play for Nigeria.
AyewJoking Posted 14 November 2012 Posted 14 November 2012 If Zaha starts and plays the whole 90 it will be a good thing. Its more likely he will get 20 in an unnatural position and be forgotten about if he doesnt impress. But tonight is all about the legend that is Steven Gerrard. A true one club man who may or may not have flirted with Chelsea to force Liverpool to increase his wages a few years back. He has led the nation to numerous oh so and not so closes throughout his career and its testament to the lack of talent or lack of coaches with the balls to select other players that he reaches his 100th cap tonight.
Fox92 Posted 14 November 2012 Posted 14 November 2012 If Zaha is good enough to be called up, then Charlie Austin should be, no doubt. Isn't he the top goalscorer in Europe? Anyway, hope Gerrard plays. 100 caps is a great achievement. I bet he has played most of them minutes as well.
Leicesterpool Posted 14 November 2012 Posted 14 November 2012 I think I'd much rather watch I'm a celebrity than this, a waste of time friendly! but probably watch anyhow
AyewJoking Posted 14 November 2012 Posted 14 November 2012 I will be watching Braintree v Tranmere Rovers tonight it is the FA Cup far more magical than an international friendly. as much as braintree v tranmere is a dogs dinner, this statement is valid.
Ashley Posted 14 November 2012 Posted 14 November 2012 Why build a new national stadium that only holds 50,000? Also cost £300m to build?
Father Ted Posted 14 November 2012 Posted 14 November 2012 Glad to see Osman in the squad which nobody has mentioned. England might finally have a manager who picks players to suit positions/tactics and doesn't look at their name but rather their form.
marko Posted 14 November 2012 Posted 14 November 2012 Why build a new national stadium that only holds 50,000? Also cost £300m to build? Maybe because they wouldn't fill a 70,000+ stadium Nothing worse than blocks and blocks of empty seats.
