Babylon Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Really? He's been a damn site more impressive than Marshall has been this season. The usual bias against Dyer rears it's head again. Cough.
Mark_w Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 A decent bloke might criticise someone when they are wrong but highlight when they are perhaps right. Like CPF has done? Would a decent bloke admit it when they got something wrong out of interest?
Babylon Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Errrrr.... Vardy had 5 in total and Beckford had 2 at this stage. Vardy 4 league goals by 8th December Beckford 4 league goals 3rd March. Without even bothering to factor in a players effort for the team cause it's pretty clear. And then you have the fact one is in their first season above the conference, one didn't cost £2.5-£4m, and one isn't on £30k+. Just so you know it's Vardy who didn't cost that much and isn't taking home that much and is in his first season above the conference..... Not that you'd know from the stats. I miss Jermaine...
Lionator Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 I stand by what I said, people did have a right to be upset with the 7 figure wastage last season, a loan move would of benefited him as it would have helped him adapt and regain confidence, and if we go up, I'd want him on the bench at best. IMO the way he's played this season, he'd deserve a shot although I do think we'd bring a big money front man in.
Bluetintedspecs Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 A decent bloke might criticise someone when they are wrong but highlight when they are perhaps right. Like CPF has done? I'm glad my reasoned plea for patience and less knee jerk reactions has calmed you down bud

Usually agree with you, except on Izzett, but here I think you're wrong on every count. 1.1m was a bargain, perhaps offset by a bit of adaption time, but without illness and injuries I'm not sure it would have taken so long. No wastage. 2. He got his confidence fine, so loan move pointless, and possibly counter productive. 3. And if we're up next year 'bench at best' seems a bit harsh. His improvement has continued as this season has progressed, and who's to say it couldn't again-his shooting is good, he can head the ball, he's lightning quick and his work rate has been mentioned before as exemplary. He wins a lot of set pieces, which we'll probably rely on more if we go up (promoted teams usually do). Also, I can't think of any 2nd choice strikers in the bottom half of the Prem who I'd have over him. If we spend big and he drops down to first sub, fair enough, but he's a great option who scares defenders, and I can see him starting games in the Prem.

Nah totally agree been great this season, although if he'd of got some game time time at the back end of last season by going out on loan he could be even better now.
filbertway Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 The first touch for his QPR goal was delicious, wouldn't look out of place in the prem. Fair play to him for getting into pre season early and working hard, it's clearly paying off now! This just goes to show that players shouldn't be written off so easily.
Guest Col city fan Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Would a decent bloke admit it when they got something wrong out of interest? Mark you seem to have an infatuation with me. Though flattering, its becoming a bit tiresome bud. What do you want me to admit I was wrong about now? About Pearson? What I said about Pearson was that I didnt expect promotion LAST season. He was rebuilding a good young squad and if we were going up it would be THIS season. What I also said about Pearson was that the slump last season was so worrying that I felt a change might be needed. Someone younger, with fresh ideas might work, I think I said. Though I felt that AT THE TIME (theres the clue), Im more than happy to accept that I was right all along. It DOES look like we are going up this season. I WAS wrong however in that I was too hasty to be calling for a change near the end of last season. I hold my hands up. I, along with many others felt that Pearson had lost the plot somewhat. Does that finally make you feel better? Lets hope so.
Carl the Llama Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 I just want it on record that if Jamie Vardy showed up at my house and told me his missus was withholding sex so he wanted to use my hole as a replacement I would be ok with that.

anotherharboroughfox Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Think I can hold my hands up about Vardy. Really has proven himself this season.
NewburyFox Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Think I can hold my hands up about Vardy. Really has proven himself this season. I agree, and on a separate note, I love your avatar. Probably my highlight of the entire show.

kingfox Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 I think he needs time, jumping three divisions isn't easy. He started pretty well this season, but has tailed off in the last two-three months. I don't think he is good enough at this moment in time, but to say he will never be good at this level, is something I don't agree with. Same here Dan, like Col with my posts, I can't stop agreeing with yours. I do believe he is capable of being a hit in the Championship but not just yet, I think he needs to be tested at League One level, because right now he isn't good enough for Championship football, I think he needs time adjusting Hold on a minute, I thought I was an idiot. Seems I was one of a fair few, who had a bit of faith, of giving him time, and believing he could make it as this level.

Fair play to him for getting into pre season early and working hard, it's clearly paying off now! This just goes to show that players shouldn't be written off so easily. It shows that new players should ALWAYS be given a season to find their feet at a new club. It can take a while to settle, to integrate with team mates and generally learn and improve on the training field. Really pisses me off that football fans think it's OK to write a player off after only a handful of games. So many clubs are used to a turnaround of about 7 players per season. I'm glad we are going the different approach.

Was never my opinion it was a waste, it was others, I was pointing out they had a right to feel aggrieved it's a lot of money at this level and he wasn't delivering. You can't really argue with someone for saying he wasn't delivering last season as he wasn't. 2. Would of done him the world of good it would of been better than him being sat on our bench doing nothing but coming on to give away penalties. 3. Sorry not technically good enough for the Premier League better strikers than him have struggled at that level, we'll have just have to disagree on that one.
kingfox Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 ...and you wanted Pearson out. I've always been a fan of Nigel, as I've stated in the past, he has done wonders for our football club, and he is by far the best manager we have had since O'Neill. Of course there were times last season, when I thought, is he the right man for the job, especially when we lost all those games in the second half of the season, but you have to agree that was a pretty depressing time. I've been more Pearson in, than out in both of his spells at the club.
ADK Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 One thing people forget when they say £1 million was a lot to spend, Vardy probably isn't on anywhere near the wages of some strikers even in our division. You have to look at the value of the contract + the transfer fee not just the transfer fee.
Guest Col city fan Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 What about us not having enough quality? What, last season? Of course we didn't, we never got promoted?

Pie in the sky though isn't it, I beg to differ I say if your spending over a million pounds on a player your giving him a signing on fee and a wage to match it. Nobodys got a clue what he's on. I'd bet he's in the top 50%, at least
Babylon Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 What, last season? Of course we didn't, we never got promoted? You said it again this season.
Ric Flair Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Haaaaaaaaaaahahahahahaha you actually said it didn't you? I'm lumping on as we speak. Hahahahahaaa it's happening mate, after I coined that horrible Carly Rae Jepson song yesterday Hey we've just beat you And this is crazy But tell Roy Hodson To call James Vardy
