Alexikokopops Posted 17 May 2013 Posted 17 May 2013 Has anyone ever been to Venice? We're flying into Treviso late on a Monday night and require a transfer from Treviso to the other side of Venice. We're staying about 30mins train ride south of the city- it's hard to pinpoint exactly at the moment! But how much are transfers from Treviso to Venice itself? Which is the cheapest way to get there? Slightly confused by this - Venice is in a lagoon. If you've got to head 30 minutes south it might be easier to bypass Venice (to avoid popping into the middle of the lagoon and then out again). Via Mestre maybe? To get to Venice by train I think you have to go to Venice Mestre (which is the last stop on the mainland) and then change anyway to get to Venice (or the trains might go straight through). Not sure though, I haven't actually been, just looked into it before!

The hotel name is Albergo Antica Corte Marchesini should you fancy google mapping it! Iwasn't sure whether they had busses running from Treviso to Venice and then if I'd have to bite the bullet and pay for a cab from there
FoxesAreBlue Posted 17 May 2013 Posted 17 May 2013 Our family has a timeshare in Malta mate. Prob go there sometime over the summer. Love it.. I'm half Maltese WOOOOOO!!!! Haven't been for years but if you want the only good beach - head for Meliha Bay (may be spelt wrong!)

Here's the information on checking schedules. You might be able to get a bit closer but looking at the map you're probably going to have to take the hit from Venice Mestre like you say! Unless Piove di Sacco has a station. In short, I've not really helped. Sorry!

VLC86 Posted 18 May 2013 Posted 18 May 2013 Has anyone ever been skiing in Zermatt? If so, would you recommend it? Went Whistler in January and loved it. Iv heard Zermatt is expensive but to be honest the prices don't look that bad, is the resort itself expensive?
lavrentis Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 Want to go to Paris. Went to Disneyland when I was like 3 but want to go again. Anyone recommend?
goose2010 Posted 22 May 2013 Posted 22 May 2013 just started going out with a girl and looking to take her on a city break for a few days. Any one got any recommendations? thinking Europe. I've been to Rome, Dublin, Copenhagen, so looking for some where a bit different. Any suggestions would be great

We chose a hotel based purely on the fact that one review mentioned a free cheese board. Tallin, cheap and there is plenty to do there True. I enjoyed it, plus you can easily pop over the Helskinki on the ferry. Just be wary of stag dos. When I was there I saw the odd one or two which was fine because a lot of my holiday was revolving around getting drunk but might not be ideal if you're planning on romance. Same problem with anywhere that's relatively cheap (probably Prague too). And it's certainly not as bad as Riga for that. I've also heard good things about Budapest. I've only passed through though so couldn't tell you much.

Tallin, cheap and there is plenty to do there Tallin i will look at few friends have been said it is nice. Not too bothered about stag do's but get your points cheers for the Advice guys.

That was another of my options but the missus has already been there. Want to go to Paris. Went to Disneyland when I was like 3 but want to go again. Anyone recommend? My mate went there recently with his girlfriend and another couple. I say recently, it was September last year. They drove and did the ferry. It was cheaper between four of them (driving from just West of London, mind) and also meant they could also stop at this - Europe's biggest flea market all over the town centre of Lille where every restaurant just serves moule frites. This is probably in no way helpful to you but, yunno, if you want to time it with anything else I think he managed to get some kind of voucher to make entry cheaper (which might be more useful) - I'll ask him. Edit - he managed to get it free through Sky (some customer rewards thing). Might be worth looking into if you or your parents have it!
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 22 May 2013 Posted 22 May 2013 would have to agree with Alex yet again. Been Berlin 3 times and i still want to go back, it is fun and so much history. You could spend a month in Berlin and still not see and do everything. 8udapest, is incredible aswell loved the place, the food is amazing went to a restaurant called fatal, which is an appriate name as the meal sizes could kill you they are that nice and big. Also remember going to one of the weirdest nightclubs in an abandon shopping centre. Just not sure if it would be a romantic city but saying that the castle is really cool to visit and a cruise along the rhine.

Can't go wrong with any of them. If you want any more info on them let me know. If you want somewhere slightly different then Porto is great - loads of food, sunshine and fortified wine.

Budget is £600pp not much I know, but don't normally book this late. I really like Tunisia. Lovely stretches of coastline and certainly quite 'lazy', always seems very laid back. Sicily just across the water is also very laid-back and nearly deserted around the south-west. Should be within your budget too.
Ric Flair Posted 23 May 2013 Posted 23 May 2013 Budapest is superb. Buda is one side of the river which has beautiful scenery and then Pest is the other side which is more rough and ready. We stayed in Pest and were absolute Pests!!! We got there on their Nationalist Day and there was over 1000 arrests and the city was off it's nut, I got threatened to be killed because I was in the nude in a bar, the lager is lethal and it's about a quid a pint. My mate enjoyed the brothel there too, you buy a magazine called Tutti Fruitti and pick the slag out and bell her up. The drugs are sensational there too. I'd go back again in a heart beat. Definitely a place to take your missus.

Wish i'd knew about this before my children were born, sadly those days are behind me now.

Unabomber Posted 23 May 2013 Posted 23 May 2013 Recently got back from Brussels and had an absolutely amazing time and I am now into Belgian beer big time. Anyway I am looking at Amsterdam for September time, what would people recommend to be the best way to get there? Train Ferry Plane?
Guest MattP Posted 23 May 2013 Posted 23 May 2013 Did Sydney for 4 days, then New Zealand for the England cricket then Singapore for a few days on the way back in March, that was good Week in Antigua in June Paris in October for the Arc de Triomphe horse racing Singapore for a weekend then on to Perth, Oz for 2 weeks for the Ashes test Were you the City fan who I was speaking to the Fox Bar in the Viaduct before the 3rd test? Anyway I am looking at Amsterdam for September time, what would people recommend to be the best way to get there? Train Ferry Plane? Been Amsterdam about a dozen times, but it has been a few years since I last went. I love the place & need to go back soon!! I've caught the ferry a few times Harwich to Hook van Holland. Couple of hours drive this end & another couple of hours drive when in Holland. It's pretty easy, but the roads once in Amsterdam are a bit tricky & the road signs mean nothing. Once I caught a flight to Schiphol.......I never caught the ferry again. Easyjet, Luton to Schiphol & then a quick train ride into the centre of Amsterdam. It's a piece of piss & pretty cheap. I can't think the ferry would be any cheaper & it's so much more of a hassle. Do you know where you're staying? I don't suppose there's anywhere that's too rough & even the red light district is decent. The Vondelpark area is nice if a little far from the 'action', but the trams are excellent & fairly cheap.

I have flown to Schiphol before but I went to Enschede then and only visited Amsterdam for half a day on the way back. I am not sure where we will be staying but it will probably be 3 guys aged around 24; we will want to stay in the centre for a decent price but don't mind paying a little more for a nicer place.
