Schlupp trial at Manchester United

I think Schlupp has been unfortunate at Leicester this season for 2 reasons, firstly we have a very inexperienced side and 2 of the 3 elder statesmen in our team play in his position (Nugent up front and Konchesky at left back) Now I believe him to be a better left back than striker, but if we dropped Konchesky I think we'd miss out on valuable experience that is uniting this team at present. Konchesky comes in for a fair bit of stick but there's no way a team can carry a defender whose made out to be as bad as Konchesky and have the defensive record that we have. I hope Schlupp stays and is developed, however. I'd be looking at the possibility of him becoming a winger, he strikes me as a perfect wing back but not many teams play that these days.

Maybe Wayne has just got bored of smashing grannies and decided he wanted some of the Schluppmiesters African braatwurst

:unsure:lol

. . . . At least weve got him doing something again, hes been out for a while clean of injuries or suspensions, and was hoping he would be at the ACON.

Intrigued as to how this will end up tho

Perfectpost. Hope Schluppy come back and makes his mark with us.

If he doesn't come back then what will we get for him?

I really don't want him to go but in light of Zaha going there for 10m + 5m add ons then what is Schlupp worth?

Same age, capped internationally, similiar(ish) type of player. I know Jeff hasn't been as impressive as Zaha this season but could he have been given the game time? I can just see him going there for not a lot and becoming a really decent united utility player.

Agreed, a few of us on here have been calling for him to be tried on the wing. He's confident on the ball and in his brief spell at LB he put some deadly crosses into the box - and he's rapid.

If united want to bid for him then they are in a perfect position to come in with a low offer... and not alot of people know that!

Is Schlupp in the squad for Huddersfield tomorrow? Bert seems to know that Dodoo is. I know NP has said Schlupp was training this week with Man U but crafty NP might have him back today for prematch preparation. Might enhance Schlupp's transfer value - just a thought.

United have clearly seen something in Schlupp for the invitation to be made and it's clear from the week's extension that he's made a good enough impression for them to wish to see some more.

Ferguson is a master of getting the best out of young players and Schlupp would seem to have the temperament and determination to learn and improve.

His adaptability and pace are additional major pluses. The big questions are "Is he good enough" and "Can he fight off the inevitable competition".

In terms of risk the downside is limited because I'd doubt that United would pay a big initial fee and the lad really isn't the kind who would throw his chances away from the disciplinary point of view.

I just wish him the best of luck and think it unfortunate that, so far, he's had so little opportunity to develop his abilities - particularly as a left-back - with us.

Manwell might flippantly dismiss his chances and he may be right. But Joe Mattock played in the Premiership - albeit it at a much lower level with West Brom - and having seen both he and Schlupp play on countless occasions, I'd say Schlupp was a much better prospect in so many ways.

He's faster, more skillful, at least as strong and probably stronger, marginally better in the air, unquestionably more adaptable positionally, has a far better temperament and also, I suspect, Schlupp would find it easier to cope when his team travelled abroad, being presumably bi or tri-lingual.

He'll go from our reserves to theirs with a smaller chance of making the first team.He won't get more opportunity to develop his abilities at Man U.

Will sign on loan tomorrow for the rest of the year.

Odd

Wonder if were getting paid for his loan or maybe ManU are doing us a favour with specialist training or work on the knee(I think) he blew last year

The question is really are they looking at him as a potential striker or left back, got a sneaky feeling its the latter. As man u need cover in that position which also makes me think that's all it is. That said if he plays and impresses it could be bye bye Jeff.

What other man utd youths could we have in return?

Sure? Yesterday got told he'll go on loan. Came from someone he's very close to.

Going on loan to Man U doesn't really make sense, failing with a move to Man U and then going on loan elsewhere would make sense (presuming we bring in cover).
