Just hope it doesn't end up costing us some vital points. I would think NP would notice if he was beginning to struggle, and would make the necessary changes.... A rest a against Huddersfield in the cup would do him a world of good, as would a few players. In Pearson I trust....COYB

When Konchesky got injured, even though Schlupp was doing well, Pearson mentioned about looking to bring someone with experience in if Konchesky was out for anything mroe than the short-term. Our team is very young and Konchesky adds that know-how and experience.

Although im sure the events in Cardiff will actually benefit King, Dyer and Waggy should we find ourselves in a similar situation this season.

Very consistent IMO and a very good left back. Just people jumping on a bandwagon as he's keeping a fans favourite in Schlupp out the team I guess

Corky Posted 20 January 2013 Posted 20 January 2013 I don't want Konchesky to go by the way, or even be dropped, it's important that we have a back-up in case he struggles consistently and I didn't think it was his best game on Friday. Generally I'm pleased with his form and he's been a good signing for us. Schlupp can learn from him.

He's seldom been tried on the wing and has looked too raw up top at this level so I can only assume it's for the potential of being an attacking left back? Although surely Fabio is that man?

Fmfox Posted 22 January 2013 Posted 22 January 2013 when you think about it, left backs are probably (in this league at least) one of the weakest areas of most teams, its a pretty specialist position and I think someone like Konchesky should be appreciated. He's vastly experienced, very consistent, and above all. good at defending! So I think he is more than capable really!

This is his second week at the Premier League leaders. Initially, it was thought he was only stopping for seven days. ​ Leicester City striker Jeff Schlupp will continue to train with Manchester United until the end of the week City manager Nigel Pearson would not reveal whether the spell would turn into a transfer deal for the 20-year-old striker, who has been used as left-back cover by City this season. Pearson said: "Jeff is enjoying himself there and he is there until the end of this week. "It is good experience for him. Whether it becomes more is something for the clubs to discuss. I have spoken to him two or three times and things are going well." Pearson has previously stated that United were "having a good look" at the youngster.
Thracian Posted 24 January 2013 Posted 24 January 2013 United have clearly seen something in Schlupp for the invitation to be made and it's clear from the week's extension that he's made a good enough impression for them to wish to see some more. Ferguson is a master of getting the best out of young players and Schlupp would seem to have the temperament and determination to learn and improve. His adaptability and pace are additional major pluses. The big questions are "Is he good enough" and "Can he fight off the inevitable competition". In terms of risk the downside is limited because I'd doubt that United would pay a big initial fee and the lad really isn't the kind who would throw his chances away from the disciplinary point of view. I just wish him the best of luck and think it unfortunate that, so far, he's had so little opportunity to develop his abilities - particularly as a left-back - with us. Manwell might flippantly dismiss his chances and he may be right. But Joe Mattock played in the Premiership - albeit it at a much lower level with West Brom - and having seen both he and Schlupp play on countless occasions, I'd say Schlupp was a much better prospect in so many ways. He's faster, more skillful, at least as strong and probably stronger, marginally better in the air, unquestionably more adaptable positionally, has a far better temperament and also, I suspect, Schlupp would find it easier to cope when his team travelled abroad, being presumably bi or tri-lingual.

dynamark Posted 25 January 2013 Posted 25 January 2013 Thrac completely agree .slightly odd that our training sessions havnt quite thrown up the same. Deal done for keane though and assuming schlupp comes back he will only have benefitted from his two weeks.
