Manwell Pablo Posted 10 February 2014 Posted 10 February 2014 Got to thinking about how American dramas (especially HBO) are so much better than our dramas here, besides Luther I cannot think of a UK drama worth mentioning. Or is it just my taste in dramas? As I have never been into the Sunday evening costume dramas which were famous for here. Life on Mars, but yes you're right, although most HBO dramas are full English actors. I think literally half the soldiers in Band of Brothers were British acting as American soldiers.

According to an American agent on the panel the main reason was the fact that they're cheaper.

I struggle to believe that They managed to get the likes of David Schwimmer in for a relatively small role can't see him coming cheap given it was when Friends was the biggest TV show in America and they were all commanding fee's of about 1 million an episode......

Maybe that's why they were paying the British actors less so they could afford his cameo.

According to an American agent on the panel the main reason was the fact that they're cheaper. It's cheaper to higher English actors when filming in England, than it is to ship over a shit load of yanks. That was the reason.

It wasn't just Band of Brothers, there was that girl off Eastenders who got the role as the Bionic Woman and Hugh Laurie in House. I suppose if the show's a hit your fee will go up a bit.

Perhaps we have decent actors/actresses... with shows like those mentioned I fail to believe they couldn't get a decent American actor to star in a show for less money if they really wanted.

I was only repeating what I'd heard. There are a load of British, and Australian for that matter, starring in American serieses and there's not shortage of actors in America. There must be some reason for it, it can't be that they're all rubbish because we all watch loads of great American films and they're alright in those.

Bettsj2 Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 Just finished watching the whole thing. Utterly brilliant tv. At first I thought it was glamourising this industry but by the end, well, christ on a bike i'd changed my mind. Really gutted there is no more.
Jace Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 Almost finished watching it for the 2nd time saving the last few episodes for the journey up to Leicester next Friday night to watch QPR
The Blur Posted 12 April 2014 Posted 12 April 2014 Finished the series today. Getting that sense of emptiness when you finished a series! What did people think of the ending? Heard it got negative press.
