Having had the unfortunate pleasure of walking from Highcross to Kayal along Granby street yesterday i can confirm the City is a proper dump.

Plenty of beggars, homeless, drunks, whinos all over the place.

Im sure every major city is the same but my daughter went Notts to the Xmas market on Friday and said it was actually lovely.

I know why you saying it Raj but the same walk from Nottingham Station into their city is very similar. It's okay once you get into Notts city centre but the walk there is horrific.

Fair point on Nottingham, TBH most UK cities are a dump, we're in a steady decline

Walked from Birstall to Bradgate Park then down the arse end of the Great Central Way and back today - Belgrave is atrocious for litter and shit just being left around. It's genuinely astonishing to walk through, not bloody surprised they're dragging the great LE4 postcode down

Coventry is worse for me. Walk through the centre and you see increasing numbers of homeless making shelter from umbrellas etc in closed shop/bank fronts. I never feel unsafe, but it's unnerving at times walking through the groups of druggies who collect there

Their run down and outdated outdoor shopping centre is awful.

We have a few rough sleepers but no one begging on the streets or sleeping in shop doorways.

We have had a small group living in tents but they were quickly found temporary accommodation.

TBF our homeless support is pretty good.

In terms of the shopping centre and the main shopping street, below what residents and visitors might expect.

We had very loud fireworks in our area marking new years eve between midnight and 00:30.

Out for a walk this afternoon and it was easy to spot the launch area. There are numerous spent 'display grade' firework launch tubes/boxes ect, just left where the were.

It looks like some one has fly tipped.

The arseholes were no doubt ooooooing and ahhhhing at the pretty lights in the sky but couldn't give a toss about all the mess on the ground they just left behind.

I often drive in country roads and side lanes as a way of relaxing as I enjoy driving, and the number of fly tipping spots is definitely increasing. Things dumped include the obvious like washing machines, mattresses and bed bases, tyres, clothing, even a bath, sink and electric shower box and shower head.

Not long ago someone of Eastern European origin scrap collector dumped a faecal macerator on our front garden because the realised the metal recycling company wouldn't accept it so they just chucked it.

I saw it happen as I looked from our bedroom window but it was over and they were gone before I could challenge him/them.

The high influx of individuals from third world countries who leave one s**t hole and then decide to migrate to a western country and insist on treating there new area like said s**t hole, doesn’t help the city centre being a dump.
You only have to look at the stats of the rat problem in the LE5 and LE4 and match that with the common denominator which is the demographic in those particular areas 🤷‍♂️

What’s the point?

Oh dear 🤦‍♂️ the name of the topic is “ is the city of Leicester a dump ?” Is it not ?  My post was my opinion as to what could well be a fairly big reason as to why it’s a dump…. But I guess people prefer to avoid the elephant in the room and play dumb to the fact this is a sizeable issue, due to fear of offending certain demographics or getting offended on behalf of certain demographics.

Anyway, what was the point of your post ?

It's just unfortunate that rather a lot of people aren't making their takes as nuanced as this and stating the above as fact rather than merely opinion.

It's also unfortunate that such perception is surpassing fact in the democratic process and therefore policymaking on this matter, as well.

I changed my post three times- sorry. I don’t necessarily disagree with your post in the overall. But your use of statistics with regards to rats was redundant. You didn’t offer any statistics regarding demographics of the places you mention and then evidence as to why you think this has happened. There are lots of issues with this city which I think you are alluding to but we need to use evidence to support our arguments.
As you said it’s your opinion, so it’s just that.
