truebluethroughandthrough Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 What are your top 3 games ever watching the city? Whether it be for the football played, the result, or even atmosphere. Mine would be 1- play off final against Derby. This was my first ever trip to Wembley. Unbelievable atmosphere, and to come back from being 1 down was special. I was slating Coatsworth all game till he dropped that beautiful hoofed ball on Walsh's head. Also I believe it was our only ever victory at Wembley at the time. 2- last game of season v Oxford We needed a result to ensure our safety and got it with a solitary Tony James goal. I was only 15 and in pen 3, the relief at the end was more like euphoria. Me and my mate was amongst the pitch invasion and I ran round the centre circle with him on my shoulders.... cringe! 3- Leeds at home early nineties. I don't remember this game being of any real importance, as in result, but what a game. 2-0 down at half-time, then we bring on Paul 'Rambo' Ramsey he scores 2 to bring us level. They score again to make it 3-2, then we score two in the last ten. Absolutely awesome night game and the only time I heard the whole member's stand singing 'your not singing anymore'!!! Made all the more sweet as I genuinely hate Leeds. Anyway that's my top 3, and trust me, it's harder than you think. There was games against Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal and Boro that nearly made it, but I think the above games stay with me more, don't know why.
elangLCFC Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Haven't been a fan for long but I'll go anyway: 1: vs Watford at home First ever play-off game I've been to and thought the atmosphere was awesome. Obviously a good result on the night even if it didn't lead to much. Could see the players were well up for it and went mental when Nuge scored. 2: vs Bolton at home Last season, when we needed a win to keep the play-off dream alive. The atmosphere in the last 10 minutes (including six of injury time) when we had 11 men behind the ball, last ditch defending. Took a friend and it was the first game he'd ever been to, loved it. Also, as a bonus, met a couple of Kasabian while queuing for tickets. 3: vs ? at home I'll be honest, I don't remember who we played, but it was the first game I'd ever gone to. Sat right behind the goal and we scored a 25 yard screamer top corner in the first couple of minutes. Didn't have a clue what was going on but looking back on it, wasn't a bad way to start supporting LCFC.
Bert Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Forest away 3-2 win - need I say anymore? Villa at home 1-0 win (Worthington cup) Norwich Away 2-1 win (High risk army)
Lionheart Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Any of the wins at Wembley, can't ever beat that atmosphere of 35/40 thousand City fans all singing not just the 2 thousand we usually get singing at home!
lcfcliam Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Been a season ticket holder since 08/09 so.... 1. Leeds at Home in League One The day we all but confirmed promotion and it was the best moment I have had a season ticket holder when old Stevie Howard smashed that header home! Never seen the King Power go so crazy in my whole time there! 2. Cardiff away in the play offs Despite the fact it ended horrifically that was still one of the best matches I have ever seen live! From 2-0 down on aggregate to going 3-2 up through Kingy was just the best feeling ever! Will never forget that match from the dodgy officiating to the penalty chip! 3. Middlesbrough at Home last season I braved the snow and managed to make it and I was glad that I did! I remember this game for 2 reasons, one being the fact that the stadium was practically empty because nobody could get there! But mainly for the last minute penalty save by Kasper! I remember seeing a bloke in a high vis coat just absolutely punching the air after he saved it
Bayfox Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Watford away 1-0 izzet. stoke away 1-0 parker. palace at Wembley 2-1!!! Ok that maybe due to watching the dvd the other week. today of all days 4-4 v watford. if I had to pick an actual top 3 I would struggle. for the whole mon thing and the quality of both heskeys and muzzys goals. Top draw. being at stoke was quality. having not made the forest game I dont have the same connection with it. Cardiff away was class apart from the result.
6ups 6downs 2 cups Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 1992 Cambridge play off semi 5-0 the last half hour knowing we were off to wembley, many of us for the first time 1991 the Oxford game, simply that changed the 1990s! And it was nice to just get on the hallowed turf at the end 1978 Leicester 4 Brighton 1 my first ever game, always remember my nan god bless her said I must have been the lucky charm...next game i went to a couple of weeks later we lost 3-0 to Charlton! And it's been pretty much like that ever since!
kingfox Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 1)Spurs 3-2 FA Cup - Still got the ticket hanging on my bedroom wall from that game, epic match, just started going to games then, went absolutely mad when De Vries scored. 2)Leeds 1-0 League 1 - Biggest celebration of a goal, I've seen at the KP, madness great scenes. 3)Leicester 4-0 Peterborough League 1 - Some of the best Football I've seen us play that day, Mark Davies was instrumental that day Probably missed off some good one's, but nevermind.
Monsell1976 Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 1-Cambridge playoff, what a day in the kop, one of the best atmospheres ever, the place was rocking. 2- palace playoff final, fell over as claridge shinned it, got up just in time to see it go in, then back down again . 3- got to be the oxford game in the kop and on the pitch, tony James the days hero. Many, many more great memeories but these three just edge it for me.
MPH Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 1. Cambridge Play - off semi. 5-0 was a great score considering the reputation they came with.. especially when you consider they had wooped us earlier in the season. Tommy Wright and Rooster Russell were rampant that night... so many other games to choose from for the 2nd and third favorite games that I'm going to have to think about it for a bit...
Soar Fox Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 3-2 forest away. Went to the game not expecting anything and being in that away end i'll remember for the rest of my life. Cardiff away in the playoffs. Even though we lost I just felt so proud of the players that night and it was a very cruel way to lose. Red Star Belgrade in the uefa cup, first time seeing a european game at filbert street. Loved the whole atmosphere, specially with the flares. Even though we did concede because Tim Flowers couldn't see through the smoke.
foxfanazer Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Forest- 3-2 Never buzzed so much! Tranmere (Wortho cup) First and only Wembley trip Leeds Nallllliiiiiisssssss Fulham this year in the cup was pretty awesome too
LCFC FOX Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Norwich 2-3 Leicester Leicester 1-0 Leeds Leicester 3-2 Spurs (My first ever Leicester match with my dad)
deanolegend1989 Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 Dont get to many matches live and in about 15-20 away games Ive NEVER seen us win..this is also despite in 3 I can remember being 2-0 up(QPR 04-05, Brighton 08-09 & Forest 11-12). Only went to 2 last season and they were pretty bad as well (Charlton home 1-2..start of the downfall, Brighton away 1-1..good performance but again a lead pegged back late on..seems to be what happens when I go ) Not got to 1 yet this year yet! So my list wont be as good, if were talking when actually being there. 1) Blackpool 09/10 - Fryatt double, decent game but it was more because it was the first sign for me that when coming back up to the Championship that we had a good chance of competing. My dad, who isnt a big football fan said: 'both teams looked good tbh, wouldnt be suprised if both got to the Premiership'. I laughed seeing as we had just come up and Blackpool were not thought about my anybody at that point. 2) Stoke away 05-06 - Mainly due to the fact Joey Gudjohnson scored probably the best goal Ive ever seen live - even better than Yakubu's with that 30 yard rocket free kick(Ive tryed finding it on youtube but cant .(1-0 and 2-1 up in that game as well and lost 3-2 late on!) 3) Derby away 10-11 - Probably the best 'feeling' when Ive been to a game..in terms of on a good winning run and we won convincingly..felt good leaving that game and what a goal by the Yak!
Russell sprout Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 Arsenal 3-3,think it was 98/99 season,2 equalisers in between bergkamps hatrick in in the 90th min, amazing experience. Fulham 3-3 aet/worthington cup 00/01 season? Was sat on double decker and 2-0 down with ten minutes or so to go,then Walsh pops up with a couple?i think?(might have just equalised in 90th min) Both scored again in extra time befour we beat the 3-0 on penalties, the quality Peggy arphexad, The best 2nd choice keeper we had in my era? 4-0 away at derby 98/98? 1st visit for leicester at pride park,no one could have dreamt what was to happen,4 goals in 15 mins, what a day that was.
cjslcfc Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 Top 3 games I've seen live? 1) Leicester 3 Spurs 2 (Jan 2006) - What. A. Game. Proper cup upset and an unbelievable atmosphere. Think it was made more amazing by how s**t and depressing the squad we had was at the time! Bloody Mark De Vries scoring the winner :xmaslaugh: :xmaslaugh: 2) Leicester 3 Nottingham Forest 0 (Feb 2010) - Just for the atmosphere of the game and beating our rivals so comfortably in our back yard after being spanked at the City Ground. One of the best atmospheres I have witnessed at the KP and I was able to appreciate the game and the importance a bit more being a much older fan than the Sunderland game mentioned in 3). 3) Leicester 5 Sunderland 2 (March, 2000) - You all know the one. One of my first matches and one of the few I attended at Filbert street. The excitement I felt after that game was immense with the football we played, the prospect of a Collymore and Heskey partnership and the feeling that everyone felt the same about that performance. True, it fell apart not too long after that match (O'neill left, Heskey was sold, Collymore broke his leg and we got Peter Taylor, Junior Lewis and Ade Akinbiyi as replacements!), but it was just the pure excitement about the team that made that match special for me as a very young fan! I think the following article sums it up pretty well http://sabotagetimes.com/reportage/when-we-were-good-leicester-citys-finest-ever-game-march-2000/
Vlad the Fox Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 This is difficult: 1. All the Wembley wins could be up there especially beating derby who were spending like jack walker from Blackburn at the time, they were so confident of stuffing us. But I think palace shades it as it was clear to see that the team O'Neill had quickly assembled was good enough for the prem. 2. Cambridge 5-0. What a result, what a night, one of the few times city did it the easy way, the atmoshphere in the stands, outside the ground and town was superb. Plus I was going to at last see city at Wembley. 3. Wimbledon 1-1 away in the second leg of the league cup semi. I think there was more city than Wimbledon there, again a great atmosphere from the lunchtime build up in the London pubs right through to after the final whistle. Others that could/should easily be in here. Middlesbrough cup final replay at hillsborough, stoke play off semi, oxford, derby 4-0...
Monk Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 Seem to have done these threads so many times down the years - here are some alternative ones that ring a bell for me: - Home vs Sheff Weds 1998. Matt Elliott scored in the 81st which mathematically secured us staying up - I remember the whole stadium bouncing to 'we are staying up', and loads of squad players were just in front of us in one of the carling stand boxes. - Away vs Southend 2009. Won to secure our promotion back to the championship. Fancy dress, everyone going mental. Good times - Home vs Man Utd in the league cup 1997. Won 2-1, claridge backheel, heskey volley
Guest Bilo Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTJPlJ6faUg Leicester City 3-3 Arsenal (1997) 0-2 after 84 minutes and thereafter, it went mad. Bergkamp was peerless for them but we just embodied the spirit that made us famous in those days. I doubt I'll ever witness an atmosphere like it at home, we went mental for the second and third goals and I was buzzing for days afterwards. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4coI5nERPc Leicester City 4-0 Leeds United (2003) The game that gives me hope for atmosphere at Filbert Way. Fvck, we were loud. Nalis' goal was utterly special and we molested Leeds from start to finish, we looked like a team that would stay up easily but it was not to be. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzOebQGcvvY Leicester City 2 Crystal Palace 1 (Wembley, 1996) Do you need me to say more?
AndWhat? Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 1) Forest away last season - no explanation needed 2) Hereford away in league 1 - just loved that whole day (and weekend to be fair, Leeds home then bottle kicking) party car, terrace, win. 3) Forest away in the league cup when we won 3-2 and scored 2 goals in the last 2 minutes If I actually sat down properly and gave this a real thought im sure i'd think of different ones, but they spring to mind straight away for me.
bovril Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 City 2-1 Leeds, March 2000 - everything just clicked, we looked great. Collymore and Guppy scored.City 3-0 Tottenham, September 1997 - the game after Diana died. It was just complete domination, Heskey was awesome. The Forest game in May - I was hiking up a mountain on the Bulgaria / Serbia border, I just couldn't listen and I'd almost resigned myself over the previous few weeks that we'd blown it. When my Dad text me we were in the playoffs I went mental and scared the shit out of a nearby donkey.
Buce Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 My three come from a time when the FA Cup was still the trophy that mattered: 1) Luton v Leicester 1974. Played on a quagmire of a pitch, City nonetheless produced a display that Malcolm Allison described as the best display of passing football he had ever witnessed. The final goal in a 4-0 victory was one of the best ever seen by a City player: Keith Weller beating six players on a mazy run into the box, before firing an unstoppable shop into the roof of the net. QPR v City 1974 Quarter final day, and due to injury we had an 'unknown' reserve, Joe Waters, starting in midfield; the lad had a fairytale game scoring both goals in a 2-0 victory. I remember this game most for the atmosphere, though: 10,000 or so away fans, mental all the way through. City v Shrewsbury, 1982 Another amazing Cup game: A first half injury to goalkeeper, Mark Wallington, saw us concede 2 quick goals to go 2-1 down. With only one sub in those days, we only had an outfield player on the bench; nonetheless Wallington was reduced to a spectator, so Jock took the decision to take him off and put Youngie in goal. Youngie played in goal the same way as he played up front - without fear - and picked up a concussion which saw him temporarily leave the field, Steve Lynex taking the green jersey. We actually won quite comfortably (5-2) in the end. Pure Cup magic.
theessexfox Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 Haven't been going to games nearly as long as most on here... Chelsea 4-3 City, although we lost it was a cracker of a game and an atmosphere Southend away, to confirm promotion/title? Leicester 3-0 Forest
Mark_w Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 Missed the O'Neill era. 1. Leicester 1-0 Leeds (2009 - Fantastic conclusion to a great game, loved it.) 2. Leicester 4-1 Millwall (2002 I think - Announcement that we may well be sorting out the administration situation, big victory against my least favourite club and taunting Dennis Wise, what's not to like?) 3. Leicester 4-3 Fulham (2013 - Probably a bit of an odd choice, but really loved that game.)
gazfox9 Posted 27 December 2013 Posted 27 December 2013 Leicester 2-1 Derby play-off final 94. Leicester 2-1 Palace play-off final 96 Florist 2-3 Leicester last season. Been at some other memorable games, the 4-4 Watford on boxing day, the 3-3 Arsenal, the Tranmere and Boro league cup finals, UEFA cup ties v Athletico Madrid and Red Star, but they're the top 3.
