stockyfox Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Whether you are really chuffed anyway or alternatively sceptical of ‘lucky Leicester’, the fact is that, today – Thursday 2nd January 2014, Leicester City are not only in prime position in the Championship but have a buffer of 4 points more than than their nearest rivals and that stretches out to 15 between top and Ipswich in 6th place. So far, we have managed to accumulate 51 points from 24 games and indeed are the only team in the FL72 to average more than 2 points per game. Incredibly, there are still another 69 points to be played which, if we won every game, could then give us 120 points in total. I dont think even the most optimistic fan in their wildest dreams would concede that this might happen but if we gained only two thirds (46), that would give us a total of 97. Even half – say 34 / 35 – would give us 85. Last season, Cardiff and Hull were automatically promoted with 87 and 79 respectively. The year before, Reading were top with 89, Soton were 2nd with 88 and West Ham missing out on direct promotion with 86. The current official projections for the final table this season, based on all sorts of data is: Leicester 86 Odds 2.5 Burnley 81 .. 11 QPR 80 .. 3 Derby 77 Forest 73 Ipswich 68 This projection would add 35 points to our current 51 - which is the equivalent of winning all our remaining eleven ‘home’ games plus just two points from our remaining twelve ‘away’ games. I know ‘football’ can be a funny old game but given the above, I think there is genuine reason for optimism and why I say ‘The future’s bright, the future’s blue and white’. Happy New Year to all Stocky
Munshi Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 37th. No but really we do look like such a strong side, automatic for me.
cc_star Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Think we'll definitely avoid relegation now, might need another win though. Hopefully Pearson can do it
Guest shearfox Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Of course it is very plausible that we can achieve at least 35 points from 22 games, giving us 86 points... just shows what a fantastic position we are in and I couldn't have dreamt being in this position at the start of the season.
AndWhat? Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Can't help but feel this is our season. We have been out of the top tier for long enough. Bring on the Sunderland and Arsenal.....
Guest shearfox Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Think we'll definitely avoid relegation now, might need another win though. Hopefully Pearson can do it Tough task, with the 22 games we have left... I have faith in Pearson though...
Strokes Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 The home games are by no means a gimmie, and as the season draws closer and closer to the end, you see more lowly positioned sides beating those at the top, as they are fighting for their lives. We need to make this purple patch last as long as we can, because the next defeat will be the toughest to bounce back from, all eyes are on us and they are waiting to find a chink in our armour.
sylofox Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 I do love a thread with a load of stats. You do know they only work in hind sight in this game. Lets just keep winning and worry about this shite with 5 games to go.
AnotherShitSeason Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Comfortably promoted as Champions. I've always maintained had what it took.
Deucalion Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 This season it might take a high points total to achieve automatic promotion. This is because the lower sides are not taking points from the higher sides. Last year things were much closer throughout the division, hence we qualified for the playoffs with a low points total. I'm still optimistic though!!
Guest shearfox Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Comfortably promoted as Champions. I've always maintained had what it took. That is it a bit of optimism, I knew you had it in you. Maybe you went a little overboard but you will get better
Fox92 Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 The best teams win games when they don't always deserve to win, the best teams can go to places like Millwall and pick up victories. I think we've done very well so far this season, currently beating my expectations and no doubt everyone else's, but I'm still taking it one game at a time like Nige will be. There is a long way to go, and no doubt we will have a sticky run. We have a tough month coming up imo, Derby and Leeds are never easy to play and Middlesbrough seem to be getting better. We've done very well to come out of Christmas with maximum points. Millwall and, especially, QPR were two tough away games while Reading and Bolton arn't easy games. That said, there are no easy games. I'm pleased with our start to the season, we've gone to places like Millwall, QPR, Ipswich and got three points. Have we always deserved it? No. But that's what the best teams do, ask Manchester United. I do think we'll finish in the top 6. I'm not saying anything more because I'm always pessimistic, but top two would be lovely. It's about time we went up; we've been out of the top tier long enough now.
Stadt Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Comfortably promoted as Champions. I've always maintained had what it took.
KFS Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 I'd love to be promoted as Champions and I have faith in the current side. We've all got that inherent pessimism however because of the poor run of last season.
Guest Bilo Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 I suppose the real question is when, or if, we'll ever see Seenitall again. I actually think we've a tough month ahead of us, if we're still top by the end of the month we'll be in an exceedingly good position.
cc_star Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Brian Little, although never making automatics had the aim of 25 wins & 10 draws, giving 85pts That's basically what's required & there's a few sides who can do that, so there's a hell of a lot of work to do to stay ahead of the pack. QPR will invest, as will Forest and maybe Derby & it will only take a side to replicate Watford or Bolton's second half of last season to force their way into the reckoning too. Brighton with players returning from injury and Ipswich also remain ones to watch, Middlesbrough also circling. However as the only team to average over 2ppg over 24 games, we're the ones to beat and only have ourselves to worry about
ealingfox Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Think we'll definitely avoid relegation now, might need another win though. Hopefully Pearson can do it Don't be silly, he's a tactically inept, pigheaded action man badger trainers Coco twat, whos taking us down remember?
pSinatra Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 Thump Derby & I can only think we will finish 1st. Confidence must be high at the moment & our squad is looking strong.......compared to those around us. There's a long way to go, but the signs are good.
Lionator Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 We're the only team still averaging over 2 points per game which shows that Burnley + QPR are tailing off. If we can continue this run of wins to maybe 8/10 in a row, then it will be harder to lose promotion than to win it.
KFS Posted 2 January 2014 Posted 2 January 2014 As long as we're first or second I'll be happy. Ultimately this, I just can't take another playoff lottery.
