Fez of Mahrez Posted 25 January 2014 Posted 25 January 2014 For any Boro fans reading this, I was surprised the ref gave the first but the penalty was blatant and the foul on Vardy for the second goal was a pretty cowardly thing to do. It wasn't a shoulder barge between two players in possession, it was a defender trying to atone for a lack of awareness but could have injured Vardy. I was impressed with Boro but their two wide players either didn't get in the game enough or didn't make the most of their ability. They will be decent til the end of the season now as long as Jutkiewicz doesn't have to play. He's not up to it. As for us, not totally on it but our ability to step it up for ten or fifteen minutes and play competently for the rest of the game seems enough in this league. And Vardy is a machine. You could imagine them being auto contenders if they had someone like him.
Babylon Posted 25 January 2014 Posted 25 January 2014 I wouldn't say he was one of those. Seemed a friendly enough bloke. He just said if it was down to him why did we play shit five years ago. I did not agree with him of course. Left him discussing it with his mates and came home. Yeah that makes sense, not.

Adomah was a non factor. if you thought Jutkiewicz was bad, kamara was even worse. Gave the ball away for the pen straight after coming on and the rest of the time the ball just bounced off him. Decent side though, pressed us well and high up the pitch
Jon the Hat Posted 25 January 2014 Posted 25 January 2014 I don't give a shit if QPR catch us, as long as no one else does.
cjslcfc Posted 25 January 2014 Posted 25 January 2014 One comment from today. Jamie Vardy is very good at football. A fantastic example of what happens if you really put your head down and work hard!
WhenYourSmilingLCFC Posted 25 January 2014 Posted 25 January 2014 Thought Jutkiewicz caused us problems at times. Disappointed in Ledesma, who i think is premiership class. First half was a write off, most teams would of struggled. Matty James improving every game. As is Vardy. Exciting times
Sharpe's Fox Posted 25 January 2014 Posted 25 January 2014 Played some decent stuff second half, the first was just a hoofball mess due to the conditions. Boro may moan about the first but they didn't do near enough to get anything out of the game.
Dan Posted 25 January 2014 Posted 25 January 2014 First half was comical and I feared the worst, but the groundsmen deserve huge praise for managing to make a passing game possible in the second half. I thought we had a hell of a lot of rub of the green from the ref today but I suppose we owed them that after the absolute shambles we've had against them in the past few years, I'm looking at Gavin Ward and that nobhead we had for the 3-3 at their place. But yet again it's three points. Seven straight wins. This team is special and I have full faith in us to gain promotion. Vardy MOTM for me. If one player represents our season then it's this man.
bovril Posted 25 January 2014 Posted 25 January 2014 This team continues to really impress me. Against a very decent side, having lost an important player early on, we seemed (from the radio) to control the game in the second half. I'm beginning to believe this side has the focus and mental strength to match their undoubted talent.
Babylon Posted 25 January 2014 Posted 25 January 2014 Someone on a QPR forum just made a very good point. If QPR win their game in hand and then beat us at the KP then they're 2 points behind. If both teams keep up their current ppg ratio they won't be.
Dan Posted 25 January 2014 Posted 25 January 2014 Poor game first half but that was due to the conditions more than anything else. Much better second half and we played some lovely stuff at times. I'm sure rival fans will be moaning about "another leicester penalty" but that challenge today was more ridiculous than the one on him against Derby. Without sounding negative I'd like to see someone else preferably Konchesky taking penalties. I never feel confident with Nugent taking them as he looks rather casual in his run up. I totally agree with this.
MC Prussian Posted 25 January 2014 Author Posted 25 January 2014 Vardy is very much turning out to be one of the best investment in recent years - also thanks to his willingness to keep his head down and improve his abilities during training. Many fans had him written off as a bad transfer, and a highly risky one. I'm glad we're finally seeing the real Jamie Vardy this season.
Dan Posted 25 January 2014 Posted 25 January 2014 Talking to some blokes who went down the game in the Kings Head. One was a Pearson doubter. Said the improvement from last year was not down to him. they showed the goals on the TV and some were singing Jamie Vardy's having a party. One did say he sat in L1. Anyone on here went in the Kings Head? I was sitting at the bar. I hope you pissed on them Ken.
Leicesterpool Posted 25 January 2014 Posted 25 January 2014 Wow! the conditions at the start were unbelievable i've never been to a football match and seen it that bad! Thoughts on the game? first half i felt we weren't our usual self's the conditions appeared to be affecting us more than Middlesbrough, our passing game just wasn't working! Luckily at half time the rain had stopped and the groundsmen and stewards worked hard on the pitch with the forks and of course second half normally service had resumed, to be honest Kasper was hardly tested through out the game! Vardy was my man of the match, he certain worked his socks off this afternoon and won't be surprised if that poor lad as picked up one or two bumps on his head after that.
Alf Bentley Posted 25 January 2014 Posted 25 January 2014 Talking to some blokes who went down the game in the Kings Head. One was a Pearson doubter. Said the improvement from last year was not down to him. they showed the goals on the TV and some were singing Jamie Vardy's having a party. One did say he sat in L1. Anyone on here went in the Kings Head? I was sitting at the bar. I very nearly called in for a pint with you, Ken. I'd even looked you up on Linkedin so that I could recognise you without your hat, but took too long doing stuff in town. Mention it again if you're attending similar ale fests. I've had a stint off the ale recently, but it seems to have ended. Sounds like you met some people who didn't know what they're talking about, though - sure the credit for recent success should be shared around, but how its "not down to NP", I really don't know! The "Jamie Vardy's having a party" singers were behind me in the Kop - impressive stamina. For ages, I thought they were singing "Jamie Vardy's having a mardy", which would have been better! "Jamie Vardy's having a mardy....David Nugent's been a bit tardy...Wasyl the Pole is really quite hardy....Kevin Phillips has bought a new cardy...GTF is somewhat lardy...Mahrez's haircut is arty-farty....Pearson's daughter is allegedly tarty....Conrad's meals are full and hearty..." Beyond the high-quality passing football, what pleases me most this season is the players' attitude: they work hard for everything. Both goals today came from that: Unlike the Boro defender, Nuge didn't give up on the ball crossing the line (which it didn't) so was able to set up Vardy....then Vardy didn't give up on another ball going out, elicited a cynical foul from their defender (many refs wouldn't have given it - but he was right to do so; fouls like that should be given more often) and De Laet heads in. At times, we play very good football, but more importantly, nearly all the time we look like a team whose attitude is spot on - a team of winners, at the moment.
The Guvnor Posted 25 January 2014 Posted 25 January 2014 Just got back from the match. was really looking forward to the two form sides squaring up, but the pitch was virtually unplayable in the first half. Boro's hoof ball tactics seemed better suited to the conditions and first half best forgotten. Second half combo of rain easing and great work from the ground staff enabled us to pass the ball around, and pleased to say we were the better team by a long way. Fantastic result and Mahrez looks the business. Happy days!!
Thracian Posted 25 January 2014 Posted 25 January 2014 As someone who's found plenty to criticise, as well as praise, in Pearson's management there is absolutely no doubt about his contribution to our improvement. Managers influence most everything and this season we've had a massively improved squad in terms of both personnel and performance, much improved tactical decision-making, a much more positive reaction to being top of the league, improved individual contributions from the likes of Vardy, Dyer, Knockaert in particular, a smaller, seemingly more integrated squad and so much more. I've cautioned us not to "count chickens" not because I don't believe in our ability to win the title as well as promotion but because I think we need to remain focused and to see the job through like the accomplished professionals we've shown ourselves to be so far. Our evolving squad excited me as early as the first part of last season, but the way we've matured into the formidable team we've got now is quite something else. What Pearson has developed is a team to be proud of - a team not only with pace, skill and passing ability in abundance but, at long last, a team with the resilience and bottle to win things. And if we finally achieve our goals Pearson and his players - for he's the guy who's chosen them and knitted them together - will deserve every praise and recognition for restoring pride and realistic hope to our success-starved club once more.
Gforce19 Posted 25 January 2014 Posted 25 January 2014 Regarding QPR winning their game in hand and beating us at the KP. If my aunt had bollocks she'd be my uncle!!!!!!!!
Bert Posted 25 January 2014 Posted 25 January 2014 Personally I'm more bothered about how many points clear of third we are. QPR v Burnley next Saturday. Draw please.
Guest Col city fan Posted 25 January 2014 Posted 25 January 2014 As I said before the game, I thought we'd win. This wasn't arrogance, it was just what I believed. The storm rendered the first half redundant. No-one could play proper football in that. In the second half, when it had dried out somewhat, we could start playing our normal game. And we shone. Vardy was almost unplayable, Matty James controlled the midfield (how good is HE by the way?) and we never looked threatened. Ive just got in from the boozer and myself and my mates all agreed that it looks like we could well be going up. We are playing with a confident swagger befitting a side full of belief. We are VERY happy being City fans at the moment.
suffolk fox Posted 25 January 2014 Posted 25 January 2014 Don't know what game a lot of people watched today but I never thought for one minute Boro would score. Not impressed with them at all. Ball was not all the way over the line for the first goal but I did think Nugent pushed their player. It was deffo a penalty. How their player was not shown a straight red for the blatant push on Vardy I will never know, but we deserved to score a second goal and quite rightfully got one. First half the conditions won. Neither team could play anything decent. Boro for all their huff and puff were not that good. How many times did Kasper have to make a save? I can recall one.

The conditions were more of a danger to us than anything Middlesbrough could muster. The ground staff, better weather and the benefits of having a good pitch with good drainage allowed us to play our game in the second half and once we got going there was only one winner. In the end we could have ran out with 3 or 4 with the chances we created.
steveherbe Posted 25 January 2014 Posted 25 January 2014 I think the problem is that ( if there is a problem) because he has taken so many this season that the keepers have started to work out how he takes them, but no player scores every single penalty especially as how many he has taken, All I' ll say is Matt le Tissier
