Leicester City forward Martyn Waghorn has today (Friday) agreed a loan move to Wigan Athletic, subject to Football League approval.
The 24-year-old striker joins the Latics for the remainder of the 2013/14 season and could be available for Saturday’s visit of Charlton Athletic. He will be ineligible for selection when City travel to The DW Stadium in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday 8 March.

Earlier this term, Waghorn spent three months on loan with Millwall, where he made 14 Sky Bet Championship appearances and scored three goals. Since returning to King Power Stadium just before Christmas, he has featured twice as a substitute for the Foxes – in the 1-0 win over Reading and the 2-1 FA Cup defeat at Stoke City.

Waghorn joined City from Sunderland in the summer of 2010 following a successful loan spell with the Club during the previous season. He has played 116 times for City to date, scoring 20 goals.

Leicester City striker joins club until end of season

Wigan Athletic are delighted to announce the loan signing of Leicester City striker Martyn Waghorn, who arrives at the DW Stadium until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old former England Under-21 international becomes Uwe Rosler’s fourth signing of the January transfer window, and speaking of the deal the manager said:

“When I met Martyn it was clear he shares the ambitions we have as a club and is relishing the challenges that lie ahead.

“He is a versatile attacking player who can operate in all three positions in the front line, and he also gives us great quality from set-piece situations.

“With a busy fixture schedule ahead of us it was important to bolster our attacking options. So I’m delighted to bring Martyn to the club and can’t wait to start working with him.”

Waghorn joined Leicester from Sunderland in 2010 after a loan spell with the Foxes, and has since spent time on loan at Hull City and, earlier this season, Millwall, scoring three times for the Lions.

The forward also appeared against Latics at The Den back in December, shortly after Rosler was announced as Manager.

Decent move for him if he plays.

Hmm. Apart from being a fan of Waggy is this a good move? I can easily see Wigan being in the mix come may

I'd bet my life savings we come above Wigan. It is therefore irrelevant.

Yeah Wigan should be irrelevant to us in terms of position but I thought we'd have looked to send him to a lower place team just incase. To be honest he's just moved from one bench to another.

I can't see anyone from below sixth getting that close to us.

Good luck to him. I recall his first match for us, coming on as a half-time sub against Swansea in our first match back in the second tier, and he was brilliant. I think he'll do OK at Wigan.

If they're going to be up there they will have to take points off the teams below us, and if Waggy's scoring for them he won't do it against us.

Good luck Waggy, seeing as his contract is up in the summer, I'm guessing this is the last we've seen of him in a Leicester shirt.

He'll (inexplicably) be remembered fondly by many.

It's not really inexplicable, people liked his attitude and with good reason. He wasn't a great player but he was a likeable one.

The £3m was a waste but I'll still remember him for the 09/10 season when he was very impressive.

You really think Waghorn being at Wigan will make any difference to their season?!

He's crap

Good luck to him, thought he generally played well for us, but the bar's been raised significantly this year by Vards et al. I reckon the best thing for him might be to swallow his pride and sign for a L1 club, bang in 20+ goals and work his way back up.
