Jeff Schlupp at Left Back

He has an opportunity now it is up to him to take it with both hands because truth be told although he sees himself as a striker he will not make it their imo.

I think it is a great opportunity for him the next couple of games. Personally can't see a future for him as a striker but as a LB/LWB/LM/LW he has a great chance. He is quick, strong and very good on the ball - all valuable attributes for a left sided player like that. He can learn positioning with game time but yesterday he looked commanding and like he could play there in the future. The fact he poses a massive attacking threat is very useful as well.

There were a couple of very good moments, one where he used quick feet to get past two players and win a free kick and another where he put in a wonderful cross after going past his man.

Hopefully he gets more of a chance in the position as he goes along because I just don't think he has the composure in front of goal to be a top striker.

Schlupp is excellent going forward and against lesser sides we benefit more from playing him over Konchesky.

Konchesky hasn't had a great season but I would still play him ahead of Schlupp against the strong sides, I feel Schlupp can be great but not quite there defensively yet.

Schlupp's close control is much better than Dyer's, I'm not a massive Schlupp fan but I think he has got potential as a winger.

Never really rated him before playing left back. But yesterday I thought he looked solid, certainly wouldn't hesitate playing him there again after yesterday performance.

He has a much better chance playing a higher level at left back rather than as a striker.

Get the coaching staff working on his positioning and defensive awareness. He has all the other attributes to flourish at LB.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry...

He's clearly a good left back and potentially a brilliant one. Why people were worried beforehand I don't know, he's had half a dozen good displays there. Was he even that bad at Watford last year? That seems to have stuck anyway, seems to be the only logical reason.

Now, after 1 game, people (some of whom no doubt were writing him off 48 hours ago) are acting as if he's cemented the place and Konch will be dropped.

I remember when I was mocked for saying I wouldn't sell him to Swansea and people also said I was mental for saying in my opinion he could be a leading Premiership left back in the future. Now it seems he's flavour of the month again.

A decent game against a right winger probably about as much threat as my nan and we've got the next Ashley Cole on our hands.

Has the attributes to be a decent LB but for me his positional sense needs to improve massively for him to be a prem LB.

I wasn't at yesterday's game but saw him play at LB on a number of occasions last season and for me, he has a tendency to drift inside and leave his man in too much space. Perhaps that comes with experience?

Gotta say while he came in and did a decent job it was against a very poor Ipswich side, at home with attacking the intent then Jeff is a decent option to have but away against a good team? he will be shown up and has been.. I don't really get these people who said he was good against Watford away this season? in terms of attacking? then yes i agree but in terms of defending? he was all over the place

Looked very good yesterday, but as others have said was never really tested and will be interesting to see in the coming weeks how he fares against better quality wide men.

I do, however, think he will never make it at this football club whilst he still considers himself to be a striker. He doesn't have the intelligence of runs, strength or composer to play up there. He does though have most of the skills to be a modern full back, and if he worked on that position and focused his attention on being a left back rather than a striker he has the potential to become a very good left back.

Just think of people like Vardy, Knockaert, Drinkwater and now, perhaps even Mayrez and consider how much time they needed or need to settle in and be the best they can.

Schlupp's been at the club ages but he's been messed around something awful and has never been given the time and games needed to make any position his own - not even when he's done well.

People refer to isolated matches when he's faltered but just who in our first team has served us without dropping clangers?. My life, even Kaspar could have been out of the team at times for some of his howlers. And there's the truth of it....some folk are firm favourites from the start and others have to earn respect with Schlupp being well and truly in the latter group.

Luck plays a part. Konchesky's never really warranted being dropped so Schlupp's had precious little chance to take his place. Others, like Moore, slotted into what amounted to a vacant place and simply made it their own for a while.

There's been no vacant space for Schlupp - in defence or attack - and much of his last two years have been wasted. Maybe there's the glimmer of a chance now and maybe he's mature enough to take it. I hope so because the lad's got ability and so many qualities required of a wing back. The rest would always take time for any player. You don't develop positional sense at a new and higher level or the knowledge of individual opponents overnight.

Best game he has had for me at left back.

Not going to get carried though given the threat Ipswich had.

Jeff has no excuses if he loses his place this time, three games ti impress agaisnt three very poor attacking sides. Should be comfortable for him.

We all know what Jeff can do attack wise from left back, he needs a few solid games defensively to cement his place though. Whist Konch has taken some stick I think he's been fine defensively, going forward though he's been woeful and seemingly gives the ball away perhaps more than any other player in situations that he shouldn't.

Not sure where I'd want him to play tbh,

Young left backs are a fortune nowadays... Look at Luke shaw...

However I have this doubt about left back because he looks so exciting if he put all his potential into attacking he could be some player!

Think with all that passion and potential Left back may be a bit of a step back for him, constantly having to hold position (Although getting forward quite a bit) not having that freedom to cause complete havoc

Schlupp isn't English...

Haha edited, I wasnt meant to put "English" Was just meant to say "Young Left backs" I was thinking of Luke shaw so put English by mistake haha....

You know what I meant anyway, Young Full backs with potential = £££££

Yes he was horrendous in the first half, a pub player could of done better. Not even an exaggeration, very nearly cost us a goal by shinning a simple clearance that you'd expect a U14's player to make over his head and playing Deeney clean through.

I didn't see him yesterday but good on him if he's had a good game as others have said he's got two more games to give Pearson something to think about. I still would rather play Konchesky there every day of the week though.

I think Schluppy is taylor made for wide left. Strong, quick, defensive capability, good attacker.

Much as Lloyd is doing well this season, Sclupp would be better in the Prem. Could see him being very effective with Cresswell down the left flank, swopping roles etc., dynamite!
