Can't wait till we've been in the prem for a couple of seasons and we start paying 20, 30 and 40 million quid for players, this place will go into cyber meltdown.

That will just be the norm. We will be in Europe by then.

When you factor in the inflation it turns out that Akinbiyi actually cost more than the bid for Ulloa.

Akinbiyi's £5.5 million equates to just over £8million in today's money.

It is completely irrelevant discussing Akinbiyi in this situation.

Akinbiyi was a completely useless player, who never was any good, signed by a manager who was completely out of his depth. It was also many many years ago.

Ulloah is a decent striker, good record and has ability. To get a striker of this quality and in his prime (27), you are going to have to pay a good £5m for.

The situations are completely different. A very poor player signed by a manager that didn't have a clue, versus a decent player signed by a manager that does

We have been out of the top flight for too long. 7 million ? honest it's chicken feed. Ten years is a long time and it's clear we still have that small club mentality. just look at what other size clubs around us in the Prem are paying out , even Hull make us look like small time misers.

Now the good news . We have a manager that has proved all if not most city fans wrong big time. After last season and all the humble pie I could eat I'm willing To trust Nigel and his backroom staff. He's stronger and more aware of what he wants and what's good for our club, then I ever imagined. He is in the same category as Mon . Ulloa's signing is not going to rock any boats in the team ( he is still a championship signing ) and they have all played against him , so there will be no big time charlie attitude from him and an acceptance from the team towards him. but like the rest of the team he has that hunger to prove to himself that he can play at the highest level . And that to me is worth any 20 million signing.

I want to personal congratulate anyone who say's " rocket science " sorry that was a typo I meant strangulate. :(

I did a degree in Astrophysics and during the interview for my current job (not remotely related to the degree) the top boss on the panel couldn't help but make exactly this 'joke'. I think he also said something about being 'out of this world'. oh dear.

Very happy with this, ulloa would have easily surpassed 20 goals last season if he wasn't injured for two months. Also he was playing in a team based on the defence which didn't score alot of goals. Reckon he will do really well!

This is true, shows he can score with few chances which is what we need as we will not be dominating games...

This isn't the year to be be spending big. Until we can establish ourselves first, can we then match the spending of Hull and others who have made the transition to Premiership.

We don't need to be miserly, and the expenditure needs to be wisely spent if we are going to spend it, we need to be extremely cautious that if we have a difficult season, and god forbid we do go down again, that we can financially take it, and have the players to cope without strangling us.

We aren't spending big- that's the point he's making. We aren't in the Championship anymore, £4-7 million is the average a player is going to cost, unless we can get a bargain or a free agent.

It's not strangulate.

I think he looks fairly decent and as some previous posters have pointed out £7million in the Prem these days isn't alot. Pearson/Walsh haven't been far wrong with most transfers so lets be optimistic it could be a £7million bargain!
