jayfox26 Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 I'm worried we're changing our approach next season. With the signing of albrighton and now ulloa, we've gone from flair on the wings creating chances through movement and pace up front to a more old school winger and not so mobile big man up front. I wouldn't say its changing our approach, its about having different options. We won't be able to play with flair every game so we need to have different options.

I don't think Ulloa is that type of player. He's skilful and holds the ball up well and will bring others into play. The fact that he's fairly good in the air is just a bonus. I don't think it means we're going to start lumping balls into him. Ulloa just gives us something that we don't already have. It will now be interesting to see how he fits into the first 11. Will he play alongside Vardy or will he replace him?

Everyone said that about Wood since arrived but have we ever played to his strengths when he's been on the pitch? Agreed that we need to sort the set pieces out, but I'd rather our striker was up front scoring goals instead of coming back defending set pieces every time the opposition attacks like Howard used to do. It's the defenders job, and we've handed out contracts willy nilly to Morgan, Wasyl, Moore etc but if they can't defend set pieces, what is going on?
Perseus Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 It seems every signing we have made so far has been made with the intension to improve us at set pieces at both ends of the field. Most of Ulloa's goals come from open play.
Rusko187 Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 I have faith in Nigel, to be honest don't really know too much about Ulloa but if Pearson is willing to spend £7m+ on the guy that must say about how he sees him fitting in. We are financially in a very good position now and agree it's quite a high amount but it's nothing we cannot afford. Assuming he won't go over our wage cap or not by much than I can't see it being too much of an issue. We as fans must be patient with our Team and Ulloa, it is going to be a tough season but lets get behind all the lads and not pressure them too much. Confident Ulloa will do a job but let's not give him stick if he hasn't bagged a hat trick against Everton.
Number 6 Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Surely the line in the Argentina song should be "and you won't mention Ade anymore".
Steven Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 We could be paying £15 million for a player from Mexico.
AKCJ Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Surely the line in the Argentina song should be "and you won't mention Ade anymore". Yep.
Xen Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Sky sports reckon he's visiting family in Spain until Sunday, then coming to England to begin talks with us, so things could go quiet again until then.
Guest Col city fan Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Numerous people have suggested we 'have no plan B'. If the quick, pressing game is not working, what then? Well ladies and gents, in the Premiership its likely we will have to have Plans A,B and C in place! The step up is a big one. Ulloa sounds (I've not seen him play, how many wise Ol Gurus on here actually have?) like a great alternative to Plan A. If we need to, we can now get the ball out wide to Mahrez and Albrighton, whip in a cross and this bloke can get his head on it, OR win the ball for an oncoming striker/midfielder. I'm not advocating we start like this. But its great to have that player who can enable this to work if we need it to. I imagine thats why he's been signed.
LCFC FOX Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Surely the line in the Argentina song should be "and you won't mention Ade anymore". I thought Matt mills was the highest paid player? Even still they both fit
MrSpaM Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Reckon Wood will go out on loan somewhere? Can't see him even making our bench now
Carlos88LCFC Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Reckon Wood will go out on loan somewhere? Can't see him even making our bench now If Ulloa gets injured I can imagine he will be the back up for him and the new type of play we will use + I think he will have a lot to learn from this guy!
Guest Col city fan Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Reckon Wood will go out on loan somewhere? Can't see him even making our bench now That was my first thought. I don't think he's gonna be good enough. I could be wrong, but see Wood and GTF not getting much game time next season. Maybe the cups?
kingfox Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Not a striker I was keen on us signing, but let's see how it goes. As the Brighton fan said there will be pros & cons to him. What I'm excited about the most is the thought of Albrighton & Mahrez whipping in crosses for him, this could be a huge asset to us this season, & Ulloa could score most of his goals from crosses or set pieces. Hopefully his first touch is decent enough though, because the prospect of him bringing Vardy, Mahrez & a driving central midfielder into play could be very exciting. Bit nervous, will probably end up bagging a hat-trick against Everton.
MikeyT Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Nothing new really but... 11:00 In an update to the story we first brought you last night, Sky Sportssources have now learned that Brighton have accepted a £7millon bid from Leicester for striker Leonardo Ulloa.
blueonyou Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 There's no way the club would spunk 7m on a whim. We've been watching this guy for a while and we can obviously see we can improve him, there's attrributes that we need and would compliment our existing squad and also that there are attributes that Brighton's staff havn't managed to get the full potential of yet. Exciting stuff.
rico Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 If all else fails Ulloa is a fine actor who quite frankly should be the next James Bond, with Upson onboard to I'm sure there will be some fine thespian performances put on in the hotel on away days. This is clearly a factor in the price tag. Clearly the stage plays Ulloa and Upson will perform will be beneficial to squad morale and will eliminate boredom and fear whilst staying on the Kings Rd prior to the Chelsea away humiliation. This explains the arrival of Upson, everything is falling into place. That was actually quite good
Grey Fox Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 Pros- Best header of the ball ive ever seen. Can get ridiculous power even if theres no pace on the cross. Great accuracy too even with his height. Knows where the goal is. 9 times out of 10, he will hit the ball well and at least test the keeper or get the shot around the target. Passionate. Although players do sometimes look down, the emotion he showed scoring that last minute goal vs forest las tseason was immense. Shows he has good team spirit- generally has a smile on his face. Pace- despite his appearance, he can outrun alot of defenders whenm he wants to, mainly shrugging them off the ball if theyre in a 1v1 battle. Pretty good Pros, right? Now, here are the points most people miss... Cons- Lazy. His movement 90% of the time is attrotious. He is awful at getting back from offside positions. You WILL notice this. Its like he needs to be motivated from an opponents player to annoy him before he'll properly chase down the ball. First touch. Dont even get me started. Again, 9 times out of 10, he loses the ball with his first touch. Its like his foot is a spring at times. Occasionally holds the ball up well, good chest control, bad feet touch. Strength. Another one you may think is bizarre. Fact is, he looks really strong and powerful, but ends up on the floor most times- even from players such as Sam Byram. Sound like the new Yak to me. The famous 'he only scores goals' quote springs to mind.
Fox Ulike Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 One thing that I don't think has yet been mentioned is that we have secured our number 1 target. I can imagine that Ulloa is feeling pretty pumped-up about the way Pearson pursued him, and has kept coming back until he got his man. This will hopefully have a really positive effect on Ulloa for the start of the season...
Head Honcho Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 A lot of money, let's hope he's worth it! A few Brighton fans hoping we "fall into their trap" and buy him.
AKCJ Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 "Very poor on one on ones, he will struggle as Leicester will struggle. He looked good for us as we were a good team and he had good service" My favourite quote from the Brighton board.
MrSpaM Posted 18 July 2014 Posted 18 July 2014 A lot of money, let's hope he's worth it! A few Brighton fans hoping we "fall into their trap" and buy him. Yeh, let's fall into the trap of buying their lead goal scorer and the guy that has got them in the play off's two seasons running, sure they'll be well pleased when he's finally left.
