pazzerfox Posted 19 July 2014 Posted 19 July 2014 Gutted , but best of luck to him and you. Thank you. I hope he scores the goals that keep us in the Prem. Do you still think you can challenge for the play-offs without him and upson?

With what we have now it's very much looking like a mid table season... but it's mid July , still plenty of times to bring in players

Glovejoy Posted 19 July 2014 Posted 19 July 2014 Personally I think with a strike partner he'll do a fantastic job , got a tad isolated at times last season - he's done enough to show he is worthy of a shot at the Premiership, thought it was going to be with us mind - going to be tricky to replace. Not saying this will happen but would you be interested with Chris Wood coming your way on loan for the season as part of the deal?
smudger63 Posted 19 July 2014 Posted 19 July 2014 15 goals, that would be an incredible return for a team like ours... if he gets 10 I would be very pleased... Akinbadbuy scored 10 (9 in the league) in his first season with us, and he gets slaughtered by us fans. Having said that, if he had scored from just half the decent chances that he missed for us, he would have finished with 25 goals that season. His finishing really was woefull!
smudger63 Posted 19 July 2014 Posted 19 July 2014 Not saying this will happen but would you be interested with Chris Wood coming your way on loan for the season as part of the deal? Wow, they would be getting hell of a deal if that was to happen. Wood is the best finisher at our club, in my opinion. He struggled to get into the team last season, because of the good partnership of Nuge and Vardy, who seemed to compliment each other, and of course we were winning lots of games. Whenever he came into the team though, he never really let us down, and i`ve not looked it up, but i would think his goals per games started ratio was very good last season.
Babylon Posted 19 July 2014 Posted 19 July 2014 No way we've gone from offering 6 million to 8 million. 7 sounds about right. Lets put it this way, they probably don't have a clue seeing as their accepted fee has jumped from an accepted £7m to £10m in under 24 hours.

Well quite a difference between a top 10 PL side and one that has just got promoted... Ulloa will not get anywhere near as many chances as what Akinbiyi got. Very Different times
BHAFC Braders Posted 19 July 2014 Posted 19 July 2014 Just out of interest. Why was it that Garcia left? Good luck for the season anyhow. Firstly thanks - same with you guys (especially against the red and blue lot) Garcia - it seems to differ between what the club claim and what his representatives say He claims deals were done without his say so and the money he'd have to work with this season was lower then last season The club say communication was tricky with him and the money will be roughly the same with sales money going to the gaffer. Guessing we'll have to wait and see who is correct but I feel beyond poogate Poyets reasons for leaving were similar. Not saying this will happen but would you be interested with Chris Wood coming your way on loan for the season as part of the deal? See I think at the start of this very thread I wrote Wood off as "not our style" or something similar , however , and I'll need to see more of what Samis got planned for this season - this has now changed , he was great on loan for us a couple of seasons back and we could do a lot worse oh and COG is just a squad striker , bar CMS and the player formerly known as Goodwin we were getting a tad sparse upfront.
GingerrrFox Posted 19 July 2014 Posted 19 July 2014 The whole fee rising to £10 million is bullshit. It's just Brighton fans trying to make themselves feel better about losing their only goal threat. I've heard it's around the £7-7.5 mark.
gibbin82 Posted 19 July 2014 Posted 19 July 2014 Although there is a lot of comparison with and criticism of Ade Akinbiyi on this thread, it should be remembered that the price tag didn't help him at all especially after he missed a few sitters early in his LCFC career and the crowd got on his back. But although I remember Akinbiyi seeming to be not up to it, he actually only scored one less goal for us than Robin Van Persie did for Man United last season and I don't hear many people saying what a terrible striker RBV is. Despite the transfer fee I hope people are a little more patient with Ulloa than they were with Akinbiyi if he doesn't get off to a flyer.
st albans fox Posted 19 July 2014 Posted 19 July 2014 Ade v rvp ? Maybe goals per game would be a better starting point. Rvp missed a lot of games last season.
Perseus Posted 19 July 2014 Posted 19 July 2014 I expect he will look unimpressive and continue netting goals with regularity against opposition of all standards, minimum 12, probably 15, exceptional 22. Lots of moaning about his lack of finesse. He is old fashioned centre-forward after all. Not elegant. Opposition may step up and catch him offside, even twice in the same match. As he may very well be marked by two, the crosses may need to be good, but they don't have to be perfect as he can adapt a bit for headers. Conversion rate of chances and half chances is 50%. Looping crosses near 100%, near misses, hit post etc, occurs occasionally from the crosses arriving at speed at head height. More effective than Chris Wood who played for Brighton.
Gary Eatfood Posted 19 July 2014 Posted 19 July 2014 It is completely irrelevant discussing Akinbiyi in this situation. Akinbiyi was a completely useless player, who never was any good, signed by a manager who was completely out of his depth. It was also many many years ago. Ulloah is a decent striker, good record and has ability. To get a striker of this quality and in his prime (27), you are going to have to pay a good £5m for. The situations are completely different. A very poor player signed by a manager that didn't have a clue, versus a decent player signed by a manager that does I never suggested any of that or compared them as players. Try reading more carefully.
dpjfox Posted 19 July 2014 Posted 19 July 2014 QPR/Liverpool agree £8.5m for Remy makes me think weve paid too much, but if he helps us adapt to different formation or scores/assists in a few goals the price wont be an issue

louie0316 Posted 19 July 2014 Posted 19 July 2014 The release clause is only for teams in champions league apparently as mentioned on ssn and redknapp
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 19 July 2014 Posted 19 July 2014 a) Remy had a release clause b) Remy is on 100k plus a week. He'll want a great whack in signing on fees too, no doubt.
Stadt Posted 19 July 2014 Posted 19 July 2014 I'm fed up with "but dis striker moved to this prem club for this amount of money hurrrdurrrhurrr", mostly because transfer fees aren't as black and white as people make out they are and are based entirely on the circumstances of the two clubs.

Ulloa is only overpriced if he doesn't perform. You can pay £2m for a striker but if they are shit, you've still overpaid for them. I really hope Ulloa has a great season for us and shuts up the doubters, just like Pearson did last season. I reckon its the same people that at this time last year were saying we will be mid table and Pearson will be sacked by christmas!

You can look at it any way you want, we've paid over the odds by some distance he's a career 2nd tier footballer and 2nd tier footballers shouldn't be going for 7.5 million pounds plus add ons. I have a bit of respect for Pearson for the sole reason he has identified a player he wants and has made sure he lands him, and he obviously thinks he can do a job.

I spoke to a member of the MON team that also played under Taylor. He said that with some strikers they'd be playing badly in matches but you could say they were great in training. He said with Akinbiyi, however, he was also shit in training :-)

Prices are not just decided by who the selling club is, but also by who the buying club is. With another huge increase in tv money, We can't really judge this season's transfers on any other past transfers. Premier League teams are having more tv money thrown at them than ever before and everyone wants some of it.. selling clubs, players, agents....

If you want comparable, Sunderland , Fulham and West Brom have all shelled out £10 million for strikers of a similar pedigree as UlloaStill think the fee is OTT
